MATCH PREVIEW: Huddersfield Town vs Charlton Athletic | Saturday 23rd November 2024 - 3pm Kick-Off

Huddersfield Town vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 23rd November 2024 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Simon Mather

Introduction
After what has felt like eternity, Charlton return to League action this coming Saturday... Of course its only actually been two weeks since our last encounter, an unimpressive trip to Devon saw the Addicks losing 1-0 at the hands of fellow mid-table side: Exeter City - Its meant that the last two months have resulted in rather drab results, ever since our impressive win against Birmingham City that is - Having had a two week break due to the International Break, its now a chance to get any kind of momentum back.

The Opposition
Name: Huddersfield Town (8th) - Manager: Michael Duff
Ground: Kirklees Stadium
Previous League Result: Crawley 2-2 Huddersfield

Like the Addicks, Huddersfield have had two weeks off since their last league encounter; an equally unimpressive 2-2 draw against struggling: Crawley Town - However our latest opponents do currently sit in 8th spot and will be looking to get their own Play-Off aspirations back on track this Saturday afternoon... Its once again credit to the competition that is League One, that 6th and 21st are separated by just 13-pts... Meaning at this stage of the season, its still pretty pointless to take League position too seriously.

Huddersfield though will be looking to bounce back from their relegation from the Championship last season, with an instant return to the second tier - Its certainly been a tough few seasons for the Terriers... Not too long ago they were relying on the goals of Karlan Grant to keep them in the Premier League (not surprising that didnt work out), and now a further five years later they've suffered a second relegation... with Michael Duff brought in over the summer, with the aim of rebuilding their fortunes.

In terms of results, and Huddersfield appear to have steadied the ship of late, after a strong start (mirroring the Addicks), they'd go on to lose all but one game in September - However they seem to have resolved some of those issues, and are undefeated in the League since 1st October, drawing on two occasions, with three wins out of three coming at the Kirklees Stadium.

Charlton Team News
Once again the biggest issue for the Addicks appears to be the mounting injuries problems that have struck SE7 once more... Naturally there are only a handful of those that you'd consider to be first team regulars, however when the backups start dropping out, its not great having to rely on youngsters before they're ready, so the sooner we can get a fully fit squad again... the better.

Even still it was an impressive performance in the EFL Trophy from Kai Enslin against Bromley, however I doubt we'll be seeing him any time soon - Thierry Small will return from England U20 duty having played minutes against Germany, and will be knocking on the door of the starting eleven. However he'll need to show the type of form from last season if he surely wants more minutes, rather than the form he's shown for much of this season.

Elsewhere and we have to hope that injured individuals are closer to a return, albeit Nathan Jones was understandably keeping those cards close to his chest during his Press Conference this week - Lloyd Jones is perhaps the biggest name we need to see back, with Kayne Ramsay a long term absentee.

Maynard-Brewer

  • Going for a 1-1 with us scoring in the last 10
  • 4-2 Huddersfield
  • It’s time to tame the terriers
  • I think Lloyd Jones will return, would like to see us play:

                          GK
         A.Mitchell Jones Edwards
    REG                                  Small
                Taylor Coventry
                      Anderson
               Leaburn  Godden

I wouldn’t play the box midfield unless TC is back and then we can play him on the left of the 2 behind the striker
  • Two weeks for NJ to work on tactics and formation, and to come up with something that makes us solid AND gives us a goal threat, as it's not been working.

Our midfield isn't good enough, but it can surely play better than what we've seen so far?

Two weeks without 10/13 players if you add the international players not sure much could be done plus also priority was to avoid further injuries
  • Game is in serious doubt this weekend looking at the severe weather warning for midlands and north including Scotland starting tomorrow morning lasting the whole day... be very surprised where their ground is if it escapes the snow then you will have the surrounding roads to take into account…

Getting your excuses in early I see.

Huddersfield have won each of their last three home league games, their longest such winning run since December 2020, when they won five on the spin.

Charlton have lost three of their last four away league games (D1), as many as their previous 13 beforehand (W4 D6 L3).

  • Not feeling at all confident and no idea who is available so can’t even guess a team. At least Huddersfield are in the same boat.

  • If we win at Huddersfield and Burton we can reduce the current points deficit from nine down to five.
    So a must win.

If they are all still out injured then we are screwed. Won’t beat Huddersfield or Burton and will be miles off it when looking at the table

Hopefully we have at least 1 or 2 of them back. Jones back in defence and then just 1 of TC, Kanu or Aneke being back as an extra attacking option would be huge
  • Crazy how a rolled ankle has kept Kanu out so long, must have done some damag
  • Can’t see anything other than a 2-0 defeat.

hats off to those travelling to this
  • I think this will get postponed due to the weather, which may be a blessing for our depleted troops. If it goes ahead I think we will struggle and lose 2-0. I hope to be proved wrong of course, but having been at the Exeter game, hope is a bit thin!

  • 3-0 home win
  • A home win with a typical toothless performance by us. 3-0
  • Unless Hudds have an off-day, I can't see us getting anything from this.
  • 2-0 defeat and the misery continues
  • A game I just cannot see us winning.

    2-0 them
  • 3-0 Addicks!

  • Blimey, we must be in the shit, even the rose tinted glasses brigade are not on here predicting a win
  • I think we'll get beat and the pressure will start to crank up on Jones - we're just not good enough.  I think we'll get outfought and could lose by 2 or 3

  • Another away defeat I fear. Really don't fancy anything from this. Always look forward to the games but even my hope hax started to wane now. 2-0 to Huddersfield. Wonder who will return from injury if anyone.
  • that injury list is horrific, with the exception of Potts, whoever he might be, they are all 1st team players. In our days of northern habitation this was one we never missed and never won and nothing will change on Saturday, if it is played, 2-0
