Perhaps not the most scientific approach, but all things being equal, somewhat representative?

5 (including me) say they have, 11 say they haven't.

Nearly 50%. 

And I'd suggest the demographic of this group will have (possibly) missed the ecstacy boom of the early 90s and the cocaine boom of the last 20 years.

16 responses in total. So, 5 is just over 30% not nearly 50%! Quite a big difference.

Better to provide facts than state that someone is the  most boring person on the planet.

My last words on the subject, using cannabis is illegal and the supply chain causes violence, death and the trafficking of children, that cannot be disputed.

Except it was you who derailed the thread. 

The discussion was about David Coote videos and his use of drugs, you then posted a long fact sheet from NHS Scotland and a link about drug & drink driving.

Ok you are completely missing the point. When someone voices an opinion different to anyone else’s that’s exactly what it is a difference of opinion. That should be accepted and to feel the need to re educate anyone who differs from your view is condescending. You copy and paste external links to support your view but the unfortunate thing about the internet is if someone could be bothered they could re post links claiming the opposite information. Or are you saying that only the links that you provide are the truth ?? That is a dangerous perspective to have if you don’t mind me saying.

If someone wants to dispute a link I post, they are are free to do so. If they want to dispute the NHS info about drug taking or want to to put an alternative view on how cocaine gets from source to user  they are free to do so, but I haven't seen any. 

I try to provide links that are true, others do the same on other threads. Are you suggesting that users of this forum should never post links to support what they say?

The demand is never, ever going away, the only real solution is to legalise, tax and regulate the market, making it safer for all involved and taking the power and money away from criminals.

Sadly too many people want a say in what others do with their bodies. 

We need better education on the harms  of drug taking. Be careful what you wish for, no link as it is considered condescending:

It is easy to be dissatisfied with current drugs policies. Kids report they can get drugs relatively easily, and too many of us have suffered the heartbreak of addiction affecting a loved one or ourselves. The market for drugs is violent and deadly.

But being unhappy with the drug abuse in society is no reason to legalise drugs. In fact, the best evidence we have shows that legalisation would make a bad drug problem much worse - by increasing addiction, normalising use among kids, and relegating its sale to profit-hungry corporations or governments with every incentive to increase addiction to advance their bottom line. Legalisation is a very sloppy way to address the unintended consequences of current policy.

First, we know that legalisation would significantly cheapen the price of cocaine, cannabis, and heroin, making them more accessible and therefore increasing addiction. 

Second, it is unclear that a major attraction of legalisation - the supposed reduction of the violent, underground market - would materialise. As governments put restrictions like age limits on legal drugs, the illicit economy will be happy to step in to fill the gap. We know now that at least 22% of the UK domestic tobacco market consists of black market illegal cigarettes.

Legalisation would take the market away from criminals, meaning less availability for children, also there are countless studies that show legalisation does decrease overall usage of ‘hard drugs’ look at Portugals experiment as a prime example, money spent on incarceration is a total waste, it’s much better spent on education and rehabilitation.

Young Americans are far less likely to smoke pot compared to my generation as it’s been normalised and is no longer ‘cool’ simply because of its legal status. 

The criminals would turn their attention to supplying more young children, as even the most liberal laws would have to ban the sale of drugs to children under 18, perhaps even under 21.

Education is key to informing children that they shouldn't start taking drugs. Making them legal only makes those who would otherwise not use drugs, think there cannot be anything wrong with drug taking, if they can be bought legally. That is a very dangerous road to take. 

At the risk of 'derailing' the thread, look what has happened with vaping, it was originally designed as a tool to stop smoking.  Far fewer children and young people were taking up smoking, as they were constantly warned of the dangers. The reckless marketing of vapes with flavours to attract children has resulted in a whole new generation addicted to nicotine and the long term effects are not fully known.

Do you seriously think that people do not know the dangers of drugs ? Do you seriously think that people do not know how the routes to market work ? Ofcourse they do but people still form an opinion which might be different to yours. That doesn’t mean you need to start a process of trying to educate people. Again this isn’t having a go at you I’m trying to explain why so many threads get shut down because people are unwilling to accept other people’s opinions. Read, disagree if needed but move on !
