Help with Recording from DJ Controller to Laptop
Midlife crisis has made me buy a Numark Mixstream Pro+ last week.
I’ve never tried to DJ, but decided to give it a go and I’m loving it.
The super cool thing is that it also works with Amazon Music, so I have access too 100+ million tracks.
However, I can’t record straight onto a USB from the DJ controller if the music is a stream from Amazon Music.
The controller has outputs, so I believe it should be possible to take the sound from the controller onto a laptop (which would be running Audacity).
But I need what’s called a soundcard in between the controller and laptop.
Some of these are quite expensive and some of them cheap.
Can someone here recommend a good cost effective solution and what I should be looking out for this to work? My knowledge around this is next to zero.
The controller has the following outputs:
2 XLR outputs (main left/right,balanced)
1 RCA output pair (main left/right, unbalanced)

Your laptop will already have a sound card in it but the laptop is not likely to have rca connectors. Where as sound cards in PCs might.
think you might be able to connect the dj device using the rca sockets using a rca to hdmi adaptor like this

it will depend on what inputs audacity detects1 -
Thanks, will have a look at your link.
I however found this info:No, you can't connect from the Numark Mixstream Pro directly to a laptop using just an RCA to jack cable for audio input. Here's why:
- Output Type: The Numark Mixstream Pro has RCA outputs, which are designed to send audio signals to external devices like amplifiers, speakers, or other audio equipment. These are line-level outputs, meaning they are designed to drive speakers or other audio systems, not to input into a laptop.
- Laptop Input: Most laptops don't have a dedicated line-level input for audio, and their headphone jacks are usually output only. Even if your laptop has a 3.5mm jack, it likely expects a signal from headphones, not an RCA-level output.
- Correct Setup: If you want to record the audio from the Mixstream Pro into your laptop, you would need an audio interface or a USB sound card that accepts RCA inputs (or a mixer/interface with RCA inputs). The audio interface would then send the audio signal into your laptop via USB or another connection.

Are you planning on multi-tracking or are you only planning to record a single track?0

I worked it out.Purchased one of these audio interfaces:Connected RCA cables from the DJ controller to the audio interface and then a USB from the audio interface to a laptop and voila! Can now record via Audacity.1
