I hope he uses this moment to kick start his Charlton career, it was a striker's finish and as he said himself he just spun and struck it, having the instinct of where the goal is, is an almost unteachable gift.
I desperately want him to do well for us, to justify us buying him and to shut up a lot of people that have already written him off
Do you really believe people don’t want him to do well ? He has been appalling - there’s no dressing it up but if he turns into the second coming of Darren Bent, we will all be delighted .
Where have I said i think people don't want him to do well? I just said I want him to shut up the people that have written him off as a dud already, and that's 2 different things

I agree with Sam's take on Ahadme. Who ever wears the Charlton shirt I want them to do well. Callum, FA and myself don't give it large to individuals. ( Rarely !) Possibly if Edwards, Small, can continue and improve their delivery and that great corner from Taylor on the left and anyone ! on the right can put in decent crosses then perm any one from Leaburn, Ahadme, Godden or the best presser we have Kanu can bury the header or quality low ball into the net. Plus Tyreece Campbell who is making progress as a forward in different positions.
So far the Gas man has struggled to live up to being the replacement for the prolific goal scorer Alfie. Alfie goes for a million and we pay just a tad less for Ahadme ! Different type of central striker but in this mediocre 3rd tier he has to make an impact. Games are 100 minutes long now with the stop start nature of matches and 6 stops for subs. Miles plays 60 and Gas plays 40
I wish him well and in the cut throat world of Pro football if he can't replicate the finish against a National league side then he will end up down the pecking order. Someone at CAFC decided he was worth a 4 year contract 🤔( easy Q) They more than anyone must be hoping he delivers.

Surely Godden was the replacment for May though. Ahadme is a target man and workhorse forward who should be getting assists from knock-downs and with his workrate starts the pressing. Had Godden been fit from the start of the season I am sure we would have seen him up there from the start, probably would have a few more goals to his name and Ahadme would be looked at through a different lens.
I am not trying to defend some of the poor performances, but I think the narrative that he was bought in to score 15-20 goals is not correct so some of the criticism is a little unfair.
Bit like Andy Hunt against Coventry that day - We're very quick and easy to berate performances and whether someone has the talent - But realistically we have no idea what is going on with them.
Seem to recall he was great that day and got his goal as well so not sure anyone was berating him! Mind you, it was a quarter of a century ago… your mind plays tricks
He was barely involved, and looked bereft of fitness hence why he was about to be subbed, and was subbed straight after scoring - Its a game I'll never forget as wondered what on earth was wrong with Hunt myself, for him to be playing that way.
Of course it transpired that he had fatigue syndrome.
Both Ahadme and Hunt have had their hidden reasons for putting in poor performances - But fans dont see that, so instantly think that Footballers are simply shit, dont care etc.
Hunt had a body of work behind him to forgive one poor performance , 2 divisions higher ..
Its all Footballers though... Too many fans act like they're robots, like their large wages can solve any problems and simply make them play to the best of their ability.
When the reality is, none of us have any idea what is going on behind closed doors in their lives - Its none of our business to know.
But yeah X player is just shit in general!!
I mean we can only judge on the information in front of us ffs, are you saying you are never allowed to pass judgement on a footballer in case there is some underlying unknown issue going on we have no idea about, however shit they are playing?
Plus surely this chest issue presumably was only relevant to his last match, not the 7 or 8 prior to that?
Not saying that constructive criticism is a bad thing. Yet equally there needs to be a greater degree of thought that goes into it.
If any of us (me included) have posted on the Bristol Rovers match thread with comments along the lines of "Thank god Ahadme is off, he's looking shit" - Well we look pretty stupid now dont we?
Why do we look stupid now, our most expensive signing this season has so far had a stinker, he has scored one in the correct end and one own goal.
He scored against a National League side yesterday so we could argue he has found his level.
From what I’ve seen so far he is dross and one goal against Southend doesn’t change that.
I see you just choose to read a portion of what I wrote?
If people said that Ahadme was having a shit performance against Bristol Rovers, then they look stupid because he clearly had something wrong with him, hence the hospital visit.
I am not singling out the Bristol Rovers game, he has been crap in every game, I can’t name a good game
So you're going to ignore the facts as to why he potentially had a shit game against Bristol Rovers then
If he has an excuse for being shit against Bristol Rovers good for him, what’s his excuses for the rest of the games?
It is possible that he had been unwell long before the Bristol Rovers game, a chest infection like that doesn't just start like that it will have been dragging his fitness down for a while - we just don't know so give the lad a break and see how he progresses from now on.
I think the club might want to take a look at its comms sometimes. We get told how slight injuries/knocks are and dont see the player again for ages. I suspect they wanted us to think we paid a miilion for Ahadme after selling May to Birmingham but this may have put more pressure on the player and may be a fraction of what we actually paid and the figure comes from add ons if he is ultra successful.
Anyway, he took his chance well and I am pleased for him. Needs to carry that on now.

I think the amount of money we spent on him clouds this, people see we sold May for 750k or so and spent similar on Ahadme and have decided he's the replacement for him. The reality is Ahadme is meant to be the upgrade/replacement for whoever was playing the big man role last season (be it Ladapo, Wickham, Aneke or someone else)
He's featured eight times in a transitional set up. I hope he settles to deliver a more consistent level of performance for us in the future and don't believe he can't.
He surely can't be as bad as we've seen so far. Yesterday was a superb finish. It's hard to reconcile that type of goal with the lack of ability we've seen in other games. Something is not adding up.

I agree, that’s why I’ve defended him. Seemed to almost be a race to spot that he’s a dud, but he’s a young striker in a team with a lot of new players, sometimes players need more than 5-10 games.
We’ve focussed on defending over attacking play, it’s not as if he’s missed bags of chances. For the same reason it was hard to judge our midfielders as they were often watching balls fly over their heads rather than getting on the ball.
I’m not saying I’m certain he’ll do well for us, but it is very early to write him off. It’s not that unusual for a target man to look slow and awkward, but at his age hold up play can be inconsistent. It’s not just about his touch and physical strength, it’s confidence, using his body well, getting support and movement around him, the tactics we use etc. All things that can be worked on.
With the rumoured fee (even if after clauses) we expected him to be the hold up player we need, another Yann or Taylor, but part of the reason we bought him was to develop him. Fortunately Leaburn is back and starting to score goals which takes some of pressure off. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a few more goals off the bench and starts to change opinions.

Like for like Godden is more May but not as mobile. That's why I said Gas is a different type of central striker to Alfie May; which is to provide assists and win the ball in the air but also if he plays enough games to be on the 10 to 15 mark. Stockley was that type of striker before the change under Ben Garner. I'm willing to give Gassan more time to be an upgrade on Jayden who was effective at first but became negated and poor in a system unsuited to him.
Football is a 16 man team game now and when ever he joins the fray he need to impact. Gassan did against Southend, now he needs to do the same in League 1.

The thing I was pleased about with his goal was the way he used his body to block off the keeper. Easy to go in too aggressively on the keeper and give away a free kick with how protected they are, but he closed him off really well before his finish. I think he's used to getting on the end of balls across the goal but is less used to to being a physical wall. Hopefully this was evidence of that starting to sink in and he can get more consistent with it

Like any player or manager, they need to be given time, which for me is a season.
Who remembers Carl Leaburn getting laughed off the pitch? The lanky non scoring forward...
How long do players get before they are cast off as shite?
However many years in L1 has worn patience levels down to nought and someone has to get it in the neck. I'm convinced if we were storming the league, some poor player would still be singled out for ridicule, deserving of it or not.

Individual moments won't mask the poor performances. And those moments can be counted on one hand.
