Another top 5. Probably been done before. My favourite period of history and probably films too.
1. Casablanca
2. Went The Day Well
3. In Which We Serve
4. Dunkirk- 50s version with John Mills
5. Come and See
Could do a different 5 easily.

Looking forward to someone coming out with how most WW2 war films don't portray the Germans in the correct light, or the impact of troops from the colonies/commonwealth - so basically we're all racist.3

Tricky one. Depends if you mean "real life" or a semblance of truth/fiction ones.

 A Bridge too Far
 The Longest Day
 The Man who Never Was
 Dunkirk ( original)
 Others
 Guns of Navarone

Forgot about A Bridge too Far, going to think this a few times on this thread, as its a genre of movies I really "enjoy"golfaddick said:Tricky one. Depends if you mean "real life" or a semblance of truth/fiction ones.

            1. Saving Private Ryan
 2. The Great Escape
 3. Son of Saul
 4. Memphis Belle
 5. Letters From Iwo Jima Ice Cold In Alex
I wouldn't argue these are the best ever made. I can think of loads of absolute classics that should be on the list - Bridge on the River Kwai, Dambusters, Das Boot, Downfall and Hope & Glory all spring to mind and are probably better films than Memphis Belle and Iwo Jima (it pains me to put an Eastwood film in there lol).
But I like all of these movies and I think they tell different perspectives. I almost wouldn't advise anyone watch Son Of Saul. One of the hardest watches I've ever had and I will never sit through it again. But what a fucking film.

As I’ve got older I have developed a real loathing of the old British war films which usually include a working class cheeky chappy cockney and a whole load of plum accented toffs.1

 Von Ryan's Express
 The Train

Das Boot (Seen here as a TV series but originally a movie.)
The Enemy Below (yes, I like submarine films).
 Letters From Iwo Jima

Cross Of Iron (If you can find the uncut version) just failing to make the top five.0

Lots of great films there. I’d add Reach for the Sky, the Douglas Bader movie.0
