I think we are going to have to get used to the style of play not being very pretty (seriously what’s pretty in this awful league?!) and winning by small margins. That said 13 points off six games and being second is a pretty decent start and we most certainly are wining and drawing where we would have previously drawn and lost.
  • Would have taken this, all day long at this stage of the season.
  • Very pleased for the Gas Man. Any striker needs a slice of luck to get going, be it a bobble of their arse, or a head/shoulder/chest combo.
He's had his luck now and that'll only breed confidence. Let's hope it's the first of many.
As for the rest of the game, I'd rather win ugly, than lose pretty!
4 clean sheets, 13 from 18 points and 2nd in the League. If NJ can get a bit more finese in our play without losing our new defensive resilience then we've reasons to be very happy.
No time for twerking during the game Red  :#

Ain't it bloody amazing the negativity of some people, now we are to assume that because three of the teams we have beaten are in the relegation zone, it somehow belittles our achievements so far, we can only beat the teams that are put before us, and as far as I can see, we have had a descent start to the season...regardless of who they are, they all present a challenge.
We're second in the table on merit alone, and long may that continue...
100% mate. In the past few seasons it hasn’t been the games against the top teams that have been the problem.

it has been the points dropped against the teams at the bottom where we have struggled

    some folk are never happy.

i suspect we will play better against the better teams as we always do

The ‘some folk are never happy’ line is complete bollocks. We weren’t very good today. Simple as that. People are going to mention that on a post match thread. Otherwise what’s the point of a forum?
Everyone is very happy that we won and that we’re second in the league, but acknowledging that things aren’t perfect is not negativity.

I agree we weren't "very good" today, but we got the job done, that wasn't my point, it's the annoying reference to the fact that three of our wins are against teams in the bottom four, as if that is why we won, that is being negative imo of course, but each to their own...🤷‍♂️
Fair enough. I think that at this stage we’re all still trying to work out how good we are, which is why I don’t see looking at the quality of the opposition as being negative. It’s not about trying to talk us down, just natural caution. Personally, I love the fact that we’ve only let three goals in so far. I just hope to see a bit of attacking fluency emerging.

Does anyone know who our scorer is 🤔. I thought it was Ahadme. But it looks like it was someone called Yahyai. When did we sign him !

That's Ahadme's full name. Gassan Ahadme Yahyai

    Yippie Yahyai ...... Yippie YiYo

Well done Bob...think you  have just found a new song for Gas...👍
  • If our season continues as is with our results revolving around 1 - 0’s then we’re going to need to be extraordinarily lucky. We’re not scoring enough goals and don’t look like scoring goals. If we go a goal down against half decent opponents, and we definitely will,  I think we don’t have enough about us going forward to get back in it often enough. We definitely can get better and I think to get top six we’ll need to get better. We’re very lucky that we have Leaburn to come back because I think he’s got enough about him to give us more than what we’re currently seeing.

In the bottom four because teams like us are putting them there.

Were we in the bottom 3/4 after 6 matches last season?
  • I think we only had 1 win in our first 6 matches last season, hence Deano getting the tick tack, massive sea change, but I’m not getting carried away.

We were 16th with 5 points after the first 6 matches last season, think we only ever actually entered the relegation place once, and that was during a match, not even for a full game, can't remember the match concerned...🤔

3 points bagged and thats all we went there for and not plaudits from the Brazilians. I just wished that we could improve our crosses into the penalty area.

One of the very few matches I haven’t been able to watch over recent years. Kept my eye on the score while dodging oncoming coaches and buses on the windy, clifftop roads of the Amalfi coast. Very happy with the three points, and momentum maintained. 👍

  • I was there today - challenging watch, especially first half, when after a bright start, we basically became crap - 2nd half much better, in control, and once we scored there was only one winner - if only the cross towards the end wasn’t fired at Godden like an Exocet, it would have been 2-0

Never going to be an easy watch today

I saw CAFC win away from home - that’s a rare beast of late !!!

2nd in table - ok it was not pretty - but let’s not kid ourselves - this is Div 3

    Loved today

    COYR 😀
  • I think we’ve got 4 clean sheets so far this season, and only got 5 for the whole of last season?

So, going great guns at the moment, 2 away wins recorded this season, and only 4 wins for the whole of last season?

Did anyone expect Shrewsbury away to be a good footballing spectacle

Wasn't able to watch today but sounds like another game that we would have lost in previous years. A goal for Ahadme should hopefully boost his confidence, TC sounded like a threat and defence solid again. Only 6 games in but we're top 2 and that's what matters

Exactly - I was in pub before game, chatted with Shrews fans - they said that today would be an awful watch, as essentially they are utter crud

So Charlton grabbed 3 points, and got out of there

If you have to win ugly, win ugly

That wasn’t even in our hymn book last season ………

    Perfect summary Lordflash.
First half we were dire with far too many simple passes going astray. Second half much better and we were a lot more in control. Rode our luck a bit but it's about time we had some. Despite the performance I came home from the match a lot happier because we won which is in my book is more important than anything else in this league.

Would have taken this, all day long at this stage of the season.
With Blackpool, Stevenage and B Rovers next up, one would hope we could cement our place up the top of the table before a run of games against Brum, Wrecks ‘em and Stockport where we might struggle to find the wins

Just have to Keeping Picking Up Points. In this league it always feels like you should win the easier games and draw/lose the harder ones but when has that ever happened? Just KPUP.

Sounds like we did well for the first 10 mins then just fell off for a while, was there a noticeable reason at all or was it totally random?
  • Will always take a birthday win. Ugly or not.
  • Can't help but think that we would be more potent with Godden up front. Was lively when he came on and scored an excellent header (debatable foul).

    We're 2nd ffs.
We also didn’t play very well, not for the first time this season. It’s okay to mention that on a post-match thread. I’m very happy that we’re second.
To mention it. How many "mentions" does it take? But fill your boots, if that's what floats your boat.

Can't speak for today but he seems much livelier off the bench than starting so far
  • Blinding day out, good company and great result. COYR!
