Bridgeboy said:Thanks for the match thread. Sitting on my sunbed in Benidorm it was a tough read in the 1st half, then we scored and I almost lost my phone in the pool! Despite some negative comments it never felt like we’d concede. That’s a big difference from last season.Great start to the season. I’m sure the football will get prettier as our confidence and assertiveness grows.9

DOUCHER said:i'm not sure its possible to play well at places like shrewsbury, stevenage, exeter, cambridge etc - its just a case of getting the job done - today, we did it, stockport blew it - there are so many of these types of away games in this league where if u keep a clean sheet, u r likely to win - u have to grind your way out of this division and we are set up to do that - free flowing, high scoring victories are gonna be few and far between - grit your teeth and get with the programme - in Jones we trust - COYR!!!
Can relate to this team. They fight, work and do anything to get a result and after so many seasons of soft, wet melts....ill take 1-0 gritty win away to Shrewsbury every day of the week and twice on Sundays.9 -
I was a bit frustrated watching that but not fearful. Last season I would have been fearful.7

An away win is always a bonus and 13 points from 6 games is healthy.
Well played. COYR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!112 -

Apropos of nothing: We've played six teams, three of them are in the relegation zone.

What a great thing it would be to have taken six points off all of them.10 -
Delighted with the win, Saturday nights are much better with 3 points in the bag.
That being said, there is no getting away from the fact that 3 of the 4 teams we have beaten are in the relegation zone, even at this early stage.3 - Sponsored links:

A wins a win.......but here is where I'll get pelters because you cant keep grinding out 1-0's if you want to get promoted. Soon you'll let a goal in and then you have a Reading on your hands. Both Wigan & Huddersfield won 4-0 away today so they also kept a clean sheet......but improved their GD massively.
October is a big month. We have 3 of the top 6 to play at home. Winning those is a statement.golfaddick said:Wasn't there, didnt watch a dodgy stream so only have the updates from you's lot to go by.

F*** Wrexham.
Their promotion bubble will burst.
Oh, and if NJ doesn’t think that Dobson is good enough then I’m looking forward to us demonstrating why.0 -
Watching the highlights again Berry is getting off VERY lightly with managing to not score from about 4 yards out. Hit that like Simon Church with a broken leg. Even looked like he knew Jones was going to batter him as he ran back

Happy bunch on here tonight yet again, couldn’t care less if we bore our way out of this dog shit league, it’s hardly been total football the last 5 years .15

It is worth remembering that the most goals that Berry has scored in L1 and above is 6, in an entire season.
He gets in decent positions but isn't the most clinical of finishers. A neat and tidy player, with A Campbell breathing down his neck now.1 -
Hard to score against, and make scoring look hard. 3 points more to the tally. I’ll take that all season if it gets promotion.2

Once again a very solid back 3, with Ramsay looking very good and Small ok.
Coventry looks decent but Berry and Docherty seem quite invisible for large parts today & previously.
TC looked quite dangerous in a "nearly man" way.
A bit like Lisbie all those years ago when in many games he nearly scored, but rarely did (apart from Liverpool).
Ahadme put himself about and bundled in the goal so well done to him.
Once we took the lead I was fairly confident apart from added time when I was a bit worried.
13 points from 6 games and we are what everyone sees.
A very tight defensive team who won't give away many goals, but also have very little creativity at this stage and won't score many either.
The aim is pretty much to nick 1-0s.
It may be enough to reach the play offs, but surely not top 2?
It was a proper 'they're not that good' performance from Shrewsbury's perspective, but promotion teams go up because they do it consistently over a season. Look at any promotion winning team's results, whether ours or another club's, and there will be plenty of tight games they've narrowly won, including performances where they didn't play that well.
On Berry and Docherty I'm find them hard to judge as they're not getting a lot of the ball, they're spending a lot of the game watching the ball go over their heads or chasing the opposition. If we had a proper playmaker in there I'm sure they'd have a few moments of magic, but it's rare to find a player like that who also does all the running and defending Jones expects. This might be where we need to look further afield, as we've done with Dixon. A few other L1 clubs have done the same with summer signings.
I find it hard to see a lot of goals from Ahadme and Campbell, but the good thing is alongside our three sub strikers today we have Leaburn coming back and Dixon settling in. I'm not sure when we last had this many options up front. It could make a difference over the winter period when we usually pick up injuries and start to run out of strikers.
I'd like to see us have more possession, create and score more, but the very solid defending is going to give us a chance in most games this season which is a credit to Jones. He made us hard to beat last season, but we drew far too many games. So far this season we've turned what could have been three 0-0 draws into three 1-0 wins in a way we wouldn't have last season.
Listening to NJ interview he again recognised we need to improve going forward, so I don 't doubt we work on it in training. I guess one thing to keep in mind is improving going forward and in possession isn't going to come at the expense of our defending. As hard as it can be to watch we've never been promoted when we've been too soft or can't keep clean sheets, and we're neither of those things under NJ.12 - Sponsored links:

Ain't it bloody amazing the negativity of some people, now we are to assume that because three of the teams we have beaten are in the relegation zone, it somehow belittles our achievements so far, we can only beat the teams that are put before us, and as far as I can see, we have had a descent start to the season...regardless of who they are, they all present a challenge.
We're second in the table on merit alone, and long may that continue...13 -
LoOkOuT said:Kanu and Godden came on for TC and Ahadme, which meant that Chuks was an unused sub. Smart because he was rested and we were able to win without risking him.
I was hoping we could create a new record of having the same player come on as a substitute in all 46 league games!

Looking good, winning pretty ugly and feeling solid. Nothing not to like over 2 pts average per game. COYAs….1

it has been the points dropped against the teams at the bottom where we have struggled
some folk are never happy.
i suspect we will play better against the better teams as we always do

One thing that's interesting is a few have scoffed at the idea that the goals would come from all over but so far we've scored 6 goals and they've come from Jones, Berry, Docherty, Godden, Chuks and Ahadme. There's definite variety there. This time last season we had 7 goals - Dobson, 2 for Kanu and 4 for May - and 3 points.

Everyone is very happy that we won and that we’re second in the league, but acknowledging that things aren’t perfect is not negativity.21 -

I agree we weren't "very good" today, but we got the job done, that wasn't my point, it's the annoying reference to the fact that three of our wins are against teams in the bottom four, as if that is why we won, that is being negative imo of course, but each to their own...🤷♂️1 -
