Or the team gels, finds some confidence, and the underlying numbers gradually improve to meet the results.
Hopefully we’ll see the latter once 10, 15, 20 games are played12 -
Great 3 points ! Pretty much went to the script. Very few expected anything other than a dire watch and hopefully a 1-0 win. Onwards and upwards !0

From memory, so correct me if I'm wrong... but we need just one more clean sheet to equal our tally from last season?
We're going to be tough to break down over the course of the season, that's for sure, and whilst it was a win that was nothing to shout home about, we once again showed no signs of struggling for fitness as the game wore on.
Shrewsbury played exactly how I thought they would, again like last seasons very drab 0-0 at their place, they just couldn't buy a goal, but equally didnt create too much.. They represent about 70% of the Division though, and coming away from these venues, and facing these teams at the Valley, is what we've really found tough since our return to this level.
So always good to get the win.
Was impressed by the reaction in the second half, would love to know what Nathan said to them.21 -

Excellent result, performance wasn't the prettiest but that will get better
TC and Gas better together today, Alex Mitchell excellent also0 -
Second half is the minimum this group should aspiring to each game in my opinion. First didn't look much more than same old. Pleased for Ahadme and another clean sheet are big positives. Mannion with an excellent save.0

Wasn't there, didnt watch a dodgy stream so only have the updates from you's lot to go by.
A wins a win.......but here is where I'll get pelters because you cant keep grinding out 1-0's if you want to get promoted. Soon you'll let a goal in and then you have a Reading on your hands. Both Wigan & Huddersfield won 4-0 away today so they also kept a clean sheet......but improved their GD massively.
October is a big month. We have 3 of the top 6 to play at home. Winning those is a statement.16 - Sponsored links:

The difference in our defence from previous seasons to this, is unreal.23

Back to winning ways and another clean sheet for the season, got to be happy with that.Didn't expect to be in an automatic place after 6 games.Delighted for Ahadme getting his first goal. He does a lot for the team and hopefully now that's given him the confidence to start scoring more frequently.6

Second half we showed what a good side we are .. limiting Shrewsbury to one decent effort .. defensively we were sound again we made minor change to the way we played and it got our mid more involved with Coventry and Doc having excellent second half’s with Campbell again showing his worth when he came on .. upfront Ahadme was excellent today and MOM how many headers and flick ons did he win plus headers win in our own box .. and a goal
Perfect afternoon for him ..
Very good 3 points these are the games that win you promotion .. we are a good side and we are showing it , but it’s only the start and we must remember that

Yes we won and kept a clean sheet, but a better team would have put away one of the half chances Shrewsbury had, so I wouldn't get too carried away.
The way we play makes life difficult for whoever plays up front, as they're feeding on scraps. TC looked dangerous when he starting attacking wide areas, but that leaves us with even less in the middle. Godden and Kanu were effective when they came on against a stretched defence as Shrewsbury piled more players forward, but the through balls to them were terrible.
Mannion was probably the busier of the 2 keepers, and did his job very well. Pleased for Ahadme that he got his first goal for us. Coventry would be my MOTM, excellent at both ends.6 -
Everyone's happy because we won, but we've ridden our luck to edge some of our wins this season. We have to improve or eventually it'll run out.16
-
Very pleased for the Gas Man. Any striker needs a slice of luck to get going, be it a bobble of their arse, or a head/shoulder/chest combo.
He's had his luck now and that'll only breed confidence. Let's hope it's the first of many.
As for the rest of the game, I'd rather win ugly, than lose pretty!
4 clean sheets, 13 from 18 points and 2nd in the League. If NJ can get a bit more finese in our play without losing our new defensive resilience then we've reasons to be very happy.6 -

To be fair though, we certainly created more in the opening exchanges today, and could have been a couple up (Coventry's thunderbastard of a strike, and Berry had he been onside) - Just the concern from that was, how we sat off, and let Shrewsbury control proceedings a bit too much, which is again something which has been a worrying consistent from each of our other two away games.7 -

Blimey that first half was a tough listen.
Delighted for Ahadme 🥰
We march on 🤗3 -
We’ll play better than that and get beat by 2 or 3 goals .
we won ugly and it’s looking like that’s the route we’ll have to go because so far there’s a limited amount of creativity being shown .
the points so far are more than most could have dreamed of but the performances to me paint a picture of us being not as convincing as the table so far suggests .

We didn't look like conceding but it's a hard watch. Twenty minutes of the second half we looked the more dominant, scored and then it looked like we were just content to defend and not over commit. We are second with only three goals conceded with Miles and Josh Edwards back in training, no complaints.0

Whats comforting is we may only be six games in, but as Callum said, there is a small amount of daylight between the top six and the rest now, and we're still part of that... So lets hope this luck continues.19 -

In terms of the creativity, I still cling to the hope that once we've gelled more as a team, we'll see a more ruthless Charlton - As mentioned before, I think its so important to get the Defensive side sorted first, making us bastards to beat, then we can focus on the other side of the game, without hurting the side that made us strong in the first place.15 -
There is certainly a pattern forming in our season with NJ in control. 2nd place never to be sniffed at either, but just a bit of strut and flair would not be asking too much? Ok maybe, but we can dream of course.
Well played the Addicks!0 -
Does anyone know who our scorer is 🤔. I thought it was Ahadme. But it looks like it was someone called Yahyai. When did we sign him !1
-
That would have been a draw last season so very happy with a clean-sheet win.
Would like to see us be a bit more confident/aggressive up front to get a few more shots in.1 -

First time I've been able to watch us live (well, on a dodgy stream) this season, and only caught the second half. A win is a win is a win is a win, to misquote Gertrude Stein. Can't be unhappy with a 1-0 away from home.
But... that is not easy to watch. I don't care, of course - get out this godforsaken division is priority one - but I might start caring later in the season, and I'll definitely start caring if results don't keep up. We work hard to extinguish threats; we get behind the ball and fight very hard to win it back; and we hope a bit of trickery and industry up top can do a bit for us - or, just sheer willpower.
It's clear the lads are fitter and working much harder than before. Docherty impressed me for his work rate in particular. Ramsay looks good and I think defenders are going to hate coming up against Gas, for whom I can see it eventually clicking (touch wood).
Ultimately - we were workmanlike against a team probably looking more at L2 than the Champ, but the win is a win. End of, well done.11
