Depends which players are called up, assume Anderson and AMB if Aussies have a game. Cannot play with only one goalkeeper if AMB gets called up
Don't need a goalie with our defence.

We could have won all 3 games 4-2 and we'd be 2nd. No clean sheets in sight. So once again......there is something else just as important as a clean sheet. Just recognise that fact & move on.
True. But all people are saying is that the team that keeps clean sheets feels like a safer bet than the team that concedes two goals a game.
  • I completely get what you’re saying golfie. Look at the top of The Premier League, Scottish PL, The Championship and as far as Stockport are concerned League One. The best teams generally score a lot of goals and the very best teams score a lot and concede few. However. Winning 4 - 0 gets you no more points than winning 1 - 0 and there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Don’t think Stockport will keep it up. Can score given space but have played three very poor defences and have not faced any team that closes them down.

I notice Stephen Henderson CAFC keeper coach is only 36 so if push comes to shove he could be named on the bench for one game. Less radical than finding the next Steve Brown to go between the sticks 😀

We were looking at a 37 year old keeper so that makes sense on one level. General fitness, match fitness and injuries are factors we don't know though. Well, we probably do as Henderson is a coach and has retired from playing I think.

There are no negatives. We deservedly won kicking the wrong way. The 138 points is still on.
How many could we score if we kicked the right way?
  • The run up to the first play off final.
Nine(?) games on the trot without conceding?

  • Workings:

Assume all clean sheets in 43 games:

    Score in 25% games, say 10 more, 10x3 + 33x 1 + 9 = 72

    Score in 50% games, say 21 more, 21x3 + 22 x 1 + 9 = 94

    Score in 75% games, say 32 more, 32 x 3 + 11x1 + 9 = 116

So, golfie is technically correct in that clean sheets alone will not win the title as some goals are required, but 102 points would likely win the league so if every game was a clean sheet you would need 25 goals all season.

Stating the blindingly obvious, for every goal you concede you need a goal more.

It could be argued that scoring more than one goal more than the opposition in any one game is wasteful.

Not if it keeps golfie quiet.

    LOL.
People scoff but I believe kicking the right way, and winning the toss away and kicking the wrong way for opponents (like we did at Wigan) is or should be the aim.
I am pretty sure I read statistics somewhere that referees rightly or wrongly give more decisions to home teams. I always want Charlton to kick towards the Covered End in the second half as I think it helps. It might help even more this season as we seem to be able to finish games strongly.

I'm not sure but I think Wigan like to kick towards the away fans in the second half. Their singing element gather down that end of one of their side stands. Behind the goal seems to be their least popular section. Stiff competition in that stadium admittedly.
  • Golfie is reeling in as always but what i think he really means is that you very rarely get promoted without scoring a lot of goals. In my experience, teams who grind out 1 and 2 goal margins and sit near the top early on generally tend to fall away. There are exceptions of course.  I'm hugely impressed by the team at the moment and the way Nathan Jones has them playing - i love the style after watching that round the back crap for too many years now. At the moment, i don't think anybody could get more out of what we have available but i do think a lot is going to hinge on Miles Leaburn coming back in good form and in Chucks staying fit. If they do, i think we have enough firepower amongst all our forward options to score enough and get the job done.
  • I don't think anyone WANTS to dig you out.
I think some have just gone past the exasperated state with your relentless negativity and then illogical justifications and denials.
The trouble is you're so negative about virtually everything, that you honestly believe that some of your negative posts are positive.
    Summed up perfectly.

Used to be amusing, now it feels like you're rage baiting which gets boring quickly
  • In Golfies defence, before he had even posted, there were comments saying how he's going to find a negative still, or posts alluding to it. Feels like sometimes people actually deep down enjoy his negative posts, like a train wreck, you don't want to look but can't help yourselves.

If he wants to be negative, that's up to him, I don't really find Golfie doing the opposite and finding every positive post and asking why people are so positive. He has some genuine concerns about the goals etc, but ultimately it's out of our hands so personally I'm just enjoying the team for what it is atm. If we miss out because of GD eventually, so be it.

There was a bit of bickering, but it was literally only over people pre-emptively preparing themselves for one of his 'negative' posts, or, when he finally did post, questioning him. It's got a point where any view that isn't completely positive receives criticism, or people trying to convince you otherwise, when that completely negates the whole point of an individuals post match views. Nothing wrong with engaging, or finding out why a person thinks like that, but there's a way of going about it imo.
Covered End said it well. It’s become so predictable, relentless and tiresome.

It’s perfectly normal for people to come out and mention that they have been underwhelmed by Adhame, and give reasons why - and then for another poster to counteract that with their reasons (even if this does get tetchy sometimes).

But we rarely ever get anything of that substance from golfaddick. It’s not positive or negative, and I hate that people feel arguments have to be framed that way as it is much more nuanced than that.

It’s just moaning for moaning sake.

Try actually attending a match with him. Maybe this should be a kind of CL challenge, lol

    2. It is not. He really is that pessimistic. To be fair, it's a form of defence mechanism in my opinion. Sometimes it's good to be reined-in and not get too carried away but other times it used to really get on my nerves.

Btw, the only time I've really known Golfie to be confident we'd win and be wholly positive was from about March during the 99/2000 season.

  • From March 11th 2000 we lost 4 drew 5 and won 3 …in the previous 34 games we’d lost 5 drawn 5 and won 24 !

Wonder who that was aimed at... I'd be putting my money on Andy Scott

It's amazing that Jones has the confidence/self-belief to say that really, I mean I'm sure it's true but it's definitely a bit of a power play to just come out and basically announce that he's the one with the power like that.

NOT that I think it’s a bad thing, having one person with the vision and responsibility seems to be a better system than the hodgepodge committee shit we had before. But still a pretty bold statement.

You can see in ways, why its didnt work out at Southampton for him... He needs to be a Manager that takes his team to the Premier League, and then do something special there before he can go in at an more "established" side and do his thing.

The egos at that level just cant handle him.

I think he probably is someone that the big names on big wages at that level will never take to and basically laugh him out the door. I will admit he seems to have massively toned down the press conferences from when he was at Southampton.

He was pretty bonkers at Southampton - out of his depth.
  • Thanks for that @Braziliance really enjoyed it, loved the bit when you talked to the fans 👏 👏
Away or home? I still haven't decided if I talk to too many people 😂

I want the videos to run pretty smoothly, I'm a big fan of FusionJosh's vlogs and how they run, I equally like Davo's Diary, if youve heard of them. Davo is one of the reasons I wanted to be a content creator, love how he gets people involved in his videos.

Corr, proper feisty comment, would love to know who he is aiming that at.
  • I think it is pretty obvious that Scott isn't doing the job he was before Jones.  Seeing as we have to pay him, it still makes sense to have him doing a job but common sense is prevailing in that the manager should have the main say in who we sign and everybody else is there to support him.
