Sonething is happening here
So many positives but two big things are the back three and Coventry. Superb. And I never felt particularly worried that we’d concede. I have felt like that since about 2011.That and the fact that after three games we still don’t know if Mannion is any good or not.12 -

We have a great starting point as if you don't concede you don't lose and one goal wins it. Blindingly obvious but no less true for it.
SO. FAR IT DOESNT.
Only you could find a way to moan about 3 wins and 3 clean sheets from 3 games, including 1 over a side expected to contend for automatic promotion.
I am simply stating a fact. People on here keep saying " clean sheets win you titles" and I have pointed out that we've won all our games by keeping a clean sheet. Now, if "clean sheet wins" win you titles then we should be top. But we're not. We aren't even top 2. So, for the last time, there must be something else that is needed to win you automatic promotion than a clean sheet win.
As they say on exam papers, please show your workings out.
If we win all our remaining games 1-0 do you reckon we still might not get promotion?
We could have won all 3 games 4-2 and we'd be 2nd. No clean sheets in sight. So once again......there is something else just as important as a clean sheet. Just recognise that fact & move on.1 -

I simply pointed out to all & sundry that just keeping a clean sheet isnt the be & end all of things, and the mantra of "clean sheets win you titles" is not theoretically true.
Now, just to stop all this guff I am not going to reply / defend myself about this any further. You can all think what you like but I know what I mean......and some of it is me being pedantic because of where we stand in the league. I do hope that in 12 games time this conversation will be irrelevant.3 -

I notice Stephen Henderson CAFC keeper coach is only 36 so if push comes to shove he could be named on the bench for one game. Less radical than finding the next Steve Brown to go between the sticks 😀

"A poor effort by Mannion there. I wonder if Nathan might consider changing keepers at Half Time."
"Mannion not commanding his area then. We need a change in goal."
"No communication from Mannion, I can see the sub keeper doing a few stretches."8 -

Assume all clean sheets in 43 games:
Score in 25% games, say 10 more, 10x3 + 33x 1 + 9 = 72
Score in 50% games, say 21 more, 21x3 + 22 x 1 + 9 = 94
Score in 75% games, say 32 more, 32 x 3 + 11x1 + 9 = 116
So, golfie is technically correct in that clean sheets alone will not win the title as some goals are required, but 102 points would likely win the league so if every game was a clean sheet you would need 25 goals all season.
Stating the blindingly obvious, for every goal you concede you need a goal more.It could be argued that scoring more than one goal more than the opposition in any one game is wasteful.1 -

People scoff but I believe kicking the right way, and winning the toss away and kicking the wrong way for opponents (like we did at Wigan) is or should be the aim.
I am pretty sure I read statistics somewhere that referees rightly or wrongly give more decisions to home teams. I always want Charlton to kick towards the Covered End in the second half as I think it helps. It might help even more this season as we seem to be able to finish games strongly.2 -

But currently, and I know it's only 3 games & the season is over 46 games, we are not in the automatic promotion spaces even though we have won all our games & kept 3 clean sheets.......seeing as everyone keeps telling me clean sheets are what win you titles.
I really do want to drop this issue but people keep ignoring the facts and dont or cant explain why we are not top.....or at least 2nd.
PS. And at this stage I dont really care, but people cant seem to let it go. I am simply posting facts. We could have won all 3 games 4-2 and we'd be 2nd. No clean sheets in sight. So once again......there is something else just as important as a clean sheet. Just recognise that fact & move on.But we haven't played the two teams above us yet - so still in our hands! There is nothing more important than a win - clean sheet or otherwise. Points win promotion, however they are acquired.
End of.
Now please can we move on. Jesus. Some of you just want to dig me out no matter what the subject.
I think some have just gone past the exasperated state with your relentless negativity and then illogical justifications and denials.
The trouble is you're so negative about virtually everything, that you honestly believe that some of your negative posts are positive.12 -

Golfie is reeling in as always but what i think he really means is that you very rarely get promoted without scoring a lot of goals. In my experience, teams who grind out 1 and 2 goal margins and sit near the top early on generally tend to fall away. There are exceptions of course. I'm hugely impressed by the team at the moment and the way Nathan Jones has them playing - i love the style after watching that round the back crap for too many years now. At the moment, i don't think anybody could get more out of what we have available but i do think a lot is going to hinge on Miles Leaburn coming back in good form and in Chucks staying fit. If they do, i think we have enough firepower amongst all our forward options to score enough and get the job done.2

Used to be amusing, now it feels like you're rage baiting which gets boring quickly0 -
In Golfies defence, before he had even posted, there were comments saying how he's going to find a negative still, or posts alluding to it. Feels like sometimes people actually deep down enjoy his negative posts, like a train wreck, you don't want to look but can't help yourselves.
If he wants to be negative, that's up to him, I don't really find Golfie doing the opposite and finding every positive post and asking why people are so positive. He has some genuine concerns about the goals etc, but ultimately it's out of our hands so personally I'm just enjoying the team for what it is atm. If we miss out because of GD eventually, so be it.
There was a bit of bickering, but it was literally only over people pre-emptively preparing themselves for one of his 'negative' posts, or, when he finally did post, questioning him. It's got a point where any view that isn't completely positive receives criticism, or people trying to convince you otherwise, when that completely negates the whole point of an individuals post match views. Nothing wrong with engaging, or finding out why a person thinks like that, but there's a way of going about it imo.5 -

It’s perfectly normal for people to come out and mention that they have been underwhelmed by Adhame, and give reasons why - and then for another poster to counteract that with their reasons (even if this does get tetchy sometimes).
But we rarely ever get anything of that substance from golfaddick. It’s not positive or negative, and I hate that people feel arguments have to be framed that way as it is much more nuanced than that.
It’s just moaning for moaning sake.2 -

Try actually attending a match with him. Maybe this should be a kind of CL challenge, lol
2. It is not. He really is that pessimistic. To be fair, it's a form of defence mechanism in my opinion. Sometimes it's good to be reined-in and not get too carried away but other times it used to really get on my nerves.
Btw, the only time I've really known Golfie to be confident we'd win and be wholly positive was from about March during the 99/2000 season.

NOT that I think it’s a bad thing, having one person with the vision and responsibility seems to be a better system than the hodgepodge committee shit we had before. But still a pretty bold statement.0 -

I think he probably is someone that the big names on big wages at that level will never take to and basically laugh him out the door. I will admit he seems to have massively toned down the press conferences from when he was at Southampton.1 -

I think it is pretty obvious that Scott isn't doing the job he was before Jones. Seeing as we have to pay him, it still makes sense to have him doing a job but common sense is prevailing in that the manager should have the main say in who we sign and everybody else is there to support him.3
