The only goal we have conceded, in the cup, was a wonder shot from way out. We have a great starting point as if you don't concede you don't lose and one goal wins it. Blindingly obvious but no less true for it.5

2 places below Stockport and everyone's happy with that?
Jones out.44 -

PWR
superb defensively, and amazing to see that from the first 2 taken against a quality / top outfit.
Coventry my pick for MOM, thought he was class so disciplined amazing defensively especially with a booking all game. Wing backs great, cbs class.Thought campbells was his best game today, good hold up fought really well. Ahadme was busy again but the weakest link for me, worked hard and bothered them with his work rate but very little to no quality , hardly won any 50-50s and when he did get on the ball messed it up a bit.Brilliant from small and from aneke with the goals, as wonderful as the finishes were , i loved the composed and quality but quick and assertive action to create the chances when we pressed them into giving it away.
mannion also quietly performing well.
the test will be when we fall behind / concede and need to go on the offensive , as we haven’t been on the offensive all season and it feels like it will be incredibly tiring/ unsustainable to defend / play like this all season.
cracking result and 3 wins 0 conceded is class. The Southgate train rolls on.7 -
Docherty is a proper captain. You see him organising, shouting, even when Anderson came on as sub, he went stright over to Docherty, probably to deliver instructions from the bench.
Dobson was a very good player for us but didn't seem to have the same style of captaincy and Alfie May certainly didn't on the odd occasion he captained the team.
I did wonder whether the midfield three would work as a unit and I'm glad to say my fears have been allayed. Coventry is calm when he needs to be and a useful extra defender when required, with Docherty and Berry hustling and helping build attacks. It's looking good, though I hope Berry stops picking up silly yellows.21 -
The difference in this team now is remarkable last couple of seasons everytime a team attacked our box I was terrified! As you just knew they would score. Now tbh I’m confident that they won’t score. So much more organisation and desire it’s ridiculous.3

I couldn't give a fuck about clean sheets. Just win games & then make sure you win by 2 or 3.
Most have averaged 1.7 - 1.8 so the only way teams are generally getting enough points to win leagues is by keeping clean sheets*, not be winning by 2 or 3 goals a game.
*Yes they all averaged 1 or less goal conceded a game - 0.8 - 1.0.

Just looking at the match stats alone, we only had 6 shots to their 13. And just over a third of the possession. Appreciate the possession isn't the best indicator, in fact the stats alone are nota great indicator of how the game was.
Were we pretty comfortable despite having to few shots and them double the shots?0 -

Like, I'd say Bolton's best chance was a 20-yard free-kick. Their RWB blazed wide under challenge and one of them had a shot on the turn that Mannion gobbled up. They had very little7

Won't say too much more than has already been said. Immense perfomance in the scheme of things. Some real danger in the league this year and plenty of it. Look at the other results today. I think there is going to be a real gap opening up with the quality sides pushing away from the rest early doors.Frightening that we are going to have to keep up this level of performance up every week to be in amongst it!2

Thank God a proper manager.20

The same for the shots - maybe they had a lot but again most were snatched or hit-and-hope speculation as they weren't really carving out a lot of really clear cut chances. There were a few but Mannion looks like he's up to the job.3 -
First game in 2 years and of course being a Charlton fan for decades, I doubt I’ve ever sat through a match without angst and anxiety but in truth as much as Bolton looked slick at times and had more possession, they never troubled us. Our defence was solid.
Did we deserve to win? We scored 2 really good goals and they didn’t, so, of course we did.22 -

Whisper it quietly.
We might be leaving this dreadful league behind....
Great performance today. top marks to the guvnor - we are finally organised!6 -
Shows what having a manager who seemingly knows what to do, and then backing him to get on with it, can do.5

I think Jones basically called Charlton a shit hole in his post match interview 😂14

So it's been a long time since I've posted on here.. for a long time I felt so disconnected from the club because of everything going on over the years, was living 500 miles away too for a few years during Covid as well and just couldn't get to the Valley often. Last year I moved back to Surrey and became more invested in the club again, went to a lot of the games and saw the highs and lows, decided to buy a season ticket again for the first time in over 10 years.
Today justified everything. I've had a feeling about being onto something after watching the Pompey game and LO last weekend, but today was just utterly excellent. First of all, kudos to the club, really liking the new fan zone and the chicken is great! It's a good space to watch the midday kick off and just all round good vibes. But even before the kick off you could feel the atmosphere was high, the F Block has been my home for many many years and it's great to be back round my football family again. But the game today was just brilliant. There's such a unity in the team, you see it with the back 4 congratulating each other when they've done some excellent defensive work (which there was a lot of today!) The play between everyone is brilliant though, any time they lose their shape they move back as quick as they can, it's composed just SO well organised. Bolton are a hard team and they played well today, but we just didn't let them play their football. We broke them down and kept our heads at all times, whereas they lost it and made so many errors out of frustrations, if we play like that every week we'll be a very hard team to play.
And then there's Nathan Jones, I love that man. If anyone caught his celebrations of that second goal then it'll be etched in your mind just as much as it is in mine, the guy's so passionate! This is why I've always been a strong advocate of getting former players involved, just like Jacko, Bowyer, Powell etc.. the guy genuinely cares and gives so so much on the touch line that you see it all come out when we score.
I know we'll hit lows this season and injuries will come too, but there's something real special building right now with us. It's early days for sure, but I'm so glad I'm getting to watch it every week. Come on you Reds!72 -
Apparently proper data analysis shows that denying goals leads to a better likelihood of promotion than scoring them. Bad news for football but possibly good news for us.

We just look so much fitter, organised and have a resilience about us. Even when we are under pressure it’s not heart in mouth time. It’s so nice to have like for like replacements and not having to go with square pegs in round holes. Midfield has been a huge issue for a good few years now, but the game management from the current 3 is excellent. The team working incredibly hard, have rolled their sleeves up and are a totally different proposition. Early days yet, but reminds me of the Powell championship winning side.11

First game live for me this season, great hardworking performance. Defence is soooo much better than last season and I include the keeper in that.
Fully deserved 3 points and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at the rocking valley.8 -
