What a start to the season. We’ve already kept three clean sheets, where we only kept five in the whole of last season.Jones and Mitchell are outstanding defensive pairing. The midfield, which I admit I thought too lightweight for League One excelled today, with Coventry outstanding.Good to see Chuks come on and affect a game. Put a relatively simple header over the bar, and then a shot that was equally off target, but provided a beautiful assist for the Godden header. Adhadme tires them out and Aneke cashes in.Can’t believe we’re three from three, with ZERO goals conceded. I’d never have thought in a million years that would have happened after the Wimbledon friendly.12

Sadly they are now getting my hopes up. That was a proper proper performance. Midfield 3 were immaculate and we once again defended the box very well, with Gillesphey having the best game I’ve seen from him.
Of all the good things about today I think the best was just how rattled the Bolton players were in the last 15 minutes when they realised they just weren’t going to find a way through.25 -
Great performance, sweet victory. Biggest shock, the ref giving two foul throws, not since primary school have I seen that.19

Another win, 9 points from 9, another clean sheet, a win against a good team in Bolton and even a second goal which was scored by a striker. I hope the locks on the toilets are still broken or we’re going to have very little to complain about this week32

I hope one of the coaches spends all week with Small helping him with his crossing. It's not a patch on last season. Get that back in his game and he will be a much better player.7 -

Superb performance- gutsy, solid and created the clearer cut chances.
Special mentions to Jones who looks a different player to last season, ditto Coventry, and Ramsay who is one of our bargains of the last decade.
Berry looks like a player who scored in the prem last season. Docherty likewise a player with 150 odd champ appearances behind him.
Godden has to be starting for me - such an intelligent footballer.
Get Edwards back in a couple of weeks and get Leaburn fit. Plus a couple more in before deadline.
This can be a good season.16 -
A quick three-word match review before starting the long drive home:
Sound.
Solid.
COMFORTABLE.

Lots of praise going to the back 5 (and rightly so) but going to give a big shout out to Mannion as well. He looks so calm and assured and it can't be underestimated how much confidence that instills in the defenders Infront of him. Everything he has had to do so far has been done brilliantly. Only beaten by an absolute worldy. Whilst yes, we could do with another keeper in the squad, in my mind we can actually look at a back up and Mannion is rapidly earning the number 1 spot28

17% of last season’s points (9/53)
60% of last season’s clean sheets (3/5)
6.5% of games played (3/46)28 -
Teams get out of this league playing consistently week in, week out. The first two games saw that consistency loud and clear, but today that old Charlton fallibility of inconsistency came to the fore. You need to drum it into them, Jonesy:WE WIN ONE NIL!16

Great battling performance, Jones & Coventry brilliant. Well deserved win.0

Thought the 9 or 10,000 in the ground were fantastic today, brilliant feel good vibes at the end.👏👏👏31

2 pages of this thread and I’ve not seen a single
negative comment, a real marker on how far we’ve come13 -
Feels like something is truly building we are no longer an easy ride for teams.
Tough, industrial at times but we do it so well and that’s how Jones wants us to play.
A big mention to Coventry he is an unsung hero after today - does so much covering and at times really gets us out of trouble, also seems to be passing a lot better as the games continue.6 -
That was great fun.
Bolton are a decent side in possession but they didn’t fancy it as much as us.
Early long balls from us opened up the pitch and allowed our midfield to get on the ball. That trio really look like they’re gelling nicely. Coventry MoM.
Our defensive coach needs a raise. Can’t remember a more compact defensively display on the edge of our box, it was perfect.
Just a great Saturday down the valley.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a Charlton defence consistently perform this well.
Simples - fitness.

Enjoyed that, been a long time that we look able to beat a good side like Bolton. Thought TC and Adahme worked their socks off. Ramsay is some player, so good on the ball and getting out of tight spots. Coventry excellent but my new favourite player is Berry….love him.
edit. Lloyd Jones looks absolutely brilliant so far this season, absolute quality player.7 -
Dobbo who??? Coventry is a class above Dobbo in that role. Reads the game so well.
L.Jones looking the best CB in the league, so aggressive in winning the ball.
passion from the players at the end, tells you all we need to know.

Any negative is not worth mentioning after that performance. Let’s revel in a 2-0 win. Two great goals that came from us pressing them. But both chances still needed finishing and we’re done so emphatically. Remember last season when we conceded game after game beyond the 80 minute mark and couldn’t keep a clean sheet? Well, what a turnaround so far this season.
First half I thought Bolton looked decent in the pockets and were finding a little too much space. However, they were not able to relax in the ball to make the most of it and the triumvirate of Docherty, Berry and Coventry looks very good at this level.
Second half those pockets did not appear and we were able, for the most part, to enjoy possession.Bolton players looked irritated from the off and were digging at each other which is always a good sign.Hell of a long way to go but let’s enjoy an excellent performance and victory.13 -
Nice init?
That Saturday evening Charlton have won well feeling... I though you were gone forever!10 -
Can anyone still pining for Alfie please read the below before posting anything about Birmingham’s result:
- it took Alfie May 328 minutes to score his first competitive Charlton goal
- it took Matt Godden 43 minutes to score his first competitive Charlton goal11 -
The only negative for me is the delivery from set plays. Whether it's corners or freekicks it's consistently poor at the moment.33

Oh dear, Bolton fans calling for Evatt to be sacked. Think that might happen to a lot of our opponents this season13
