Karoy Anderson - new contract until 2028 (p23)

he's a young lad, bet at the moment all he wants to do is play football - I'm sure his training schedule will be managed accordingly0
-
Hoping he's in for a fitness test and to see where he's at, then gets a softer schedule for a week or so2
-
He’s a young lad who hasn’t had a holiday after his first full season of men’s football. Screams injury risk to me, even if he does have a lighter load0
-
I assume NJ will want to take him next week, but hopefully play him only a few minutes for a few friendly games0
-
A fitness test? He's literally just played in a tournament and before that they played 2 world cup qualifiers, i'm sure his fitness levels are pretty good.sam3110 said:Hoping he's in for a fitness test and to see where he's at, then gets a softer schedule for a week or so
Incredible that he hasn't been given at least a couple of weeks off. He should be on a beach somewhere, not at our training ground.2 -
Fitness tests aren't just to make sure they're fit, it's to see how fit they are and if there's anything that flags up, like muscle fatigue, niggles that were aren't aware of as he's been away with a different medical team, or just how he feels in general.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

I had a vision he would score our first goal this season.
Following up an Ahademe effort that gets thwarted.0 -
Unless he has massively improved over the close season then I don't expect him to be a regular starter.1
-
I wouldn't bet on that. I think Jones likes him a lot.PopIcon said:Unless he has massively improved over the close season then I don't expect him to be a regular starter.12 -

I would not be surprised if he ends the season as one of the first choice midfielders. He's got a lot of ability, and he showed it in flashes last season. Only 19, a lot of room to grow, and he looks very good in the final third.Exiled_Addick said:

It’s also about the right balance, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re more effective with Anderson alongside two of Coventry, Berry and Docherty.Exiled_Addick said:

I think there’s a lot more to come from Anderson in terms of what he offers on the ball and with goals, assists and general forward play. Improve that to go with his energy and aggression then we’ll have a very good and important player.
More strikers capable of holding up the ball and winning headers is going to help and players like Anderson who get forward should benefit.1 -
I think we can rule out Docherty as he's been given the armband and Coventry is the wrong position.Scoham said:

I want to see our kids do well, so I hope that he thrives in the the team. I don't think we have the quality to challenge for an auto place. Is he good enough for a team chasing the play offs? I guess we'll know in a few months time.0 -
Agree Docherty is likely to keep his place but I wouldn't rule out Docherty or someone else taking Coventry's role if he doesn't perform. We'll hopefully sign a midfielder too which should add to the competition.PopIcon said:

I'd say he's got the potential to be part of a team up there but he's still got to improve on his performances last season to become a regular.
If we compare to Bowyer's promotion side Aribo was in his third season with the first team and became more consistent and a bigger attacking threat as the season went on. Bielik was also inconsistent in the first half of the season. We'll have an idea in a few months time but a lot can change over a full season.3 -
Not good enough

Aribo was great in that promotion season, he played a big part in the our first goal against Sunderland at Wembley, as did Djiksteel.Scoham said:

I think Campbell be the one to watch this season, with Anderson getting a full season in and around the men and pushing on the following season.

Called up to Jamaica’s international squad alongside Dixon for matches against Cuba (H) and Honduras (A).

Unused sub in Jamaica’s nil nil draw against 10-man Cuba.
A very disappointing result and start for Steve McClaren.

Has just come on as a 77th minute sub against Honduras as Jamaica hold a 1-2 lead.3

Jamaica held on to win 1-2 away from home. Much better result.2

A steep learning curve for him last night as he let the opposition back into the game twice.
Will make him more experienced.1 -
I like Karoy. Has aggression, body strength and energy. I think he still has lots to learn and his decision making is probably top of that list. Yesterday’s sending off is in part I feel due to him just trying too hard. He’s still 19 and will get better. Hes lost his place both starting and on the bench because of it and he’ll no doubt be told exactly that by Jones.3
-
He's still very raw and young. It's a harsh lesson maybe but I think he's got enough about him that he will make it in the future - yesterday was just a bad day.Ferryman said:A steep learning curve for him last night as he let the opposition back into the game twice.

I like how Jones focused his frustration on the penalty that Anderson gave away rather than the second yellow.
Thought the challenge that saw him given his marching orders, could have been one of those where the referee gives you a last warning. However he was too eager to brandish his cards last night for any common sense, and as Jones said afterwards... You dont want to see players backing out of those challenges, just need to learn to time them better.
That penalty was just ridiculous though, just stay on your feet, and ideally you block for a corner... the bloke is going no where.4 -
I am amazed on the player ratings thread how many people are giving him 5s and 6s. Gave away a penalty, red card and was poor in possession. About as bad a game as you can have. Talk about overrating our youth - I wonder what TT’s or Edun’s ratings would have been if they played similarly. He is young so there is plenty of time to improve and the areas where he is weak should all improve with experience. However right now for me, the best thing for him is play in the cup games, play occasionally in an u21 game or two and occasionally make the substitutes bench when there is an injury or when NJ wants add some energy when players are starting to wear down from the grind of the season4

I like Karoy but I don't think he's currently good enough to play a major part in a midfield vying for promotion from league one. I was surprised to see him in our matchday squads this season as I had expected him to be loaned out.2
-
I don’t think we’ll see many loaned out under this ownership and with Jones as manager. Those on the fringes make up about a quarter of the squad, we’d lack depth if we loaned more than one or two out. They’re also going a lot cheaper as squad players than experienced L1 players, that frees up budget for first choice players.Croydon said:I like Karoy but I don't think he's currently good enough to play a major part in a midfield vying for promotion from league one. I like the kid....thought he was outstanding against Derby.....didn't have a great game yesterday but hope he will push on....a loan would have helped him TBH0
