OK, so what changes do we expect to see for the tournament that leads into the World Cup qualifiers ?
Who is Southgate’s replacement ?
Gotta think Kane Trippier and Walker will be given a handshake and a thanks for your efforts.

Who else likely to be moved on ?

Kane will score 30+ goals in the Bundesliga again next season. Madness to think he’ll be dropped from future England squads.
Do think that games against Finland, Ireland and Greece are the perfect opportunity to give the likes of Watkins and Palmer the opportunity to become regulars in the side, perhaps at the expense of Kane and Foden initially.
Can see the argument for Walker and Trippier being moved on in favour of bigger roles for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ezri Konsa.
Also reckon Rice plays far too safe/nervous in the big games - he doesn’t make enough forward passes. Won’t be surprised if England’s long term future is a midfield of Mainoo and Wharton.

Kane will 100% be in squad for next Nations League, World Cup qualifiers and tournament. He'll only be 32 at next World Cup.MrOneLung said:OK, so what changes do we expect to see for the tournament that leads into the World Cup qualifiers ?

As they said last night, Kane is effective when got two wide men feeding him. Not when he is dropping back into deep midfield.Unless we gonna play with actual wingers I think we need the more mobile striker to fit the current game plan best suited to the rest of the team0

The Johnny painting trophy of national football
good for practice and to give the squad members a run out

Important that win win the Group.
Regardless of this Nations League Result, we'll have a harder Qualifying Group for the World Cup as a result of being relegated, meaning we could end up fighting with a France or Spain for the one automatic spot to head to the 2026 World Cup.
We shouldn't be afraid of whoever we are pitched with from the top seeds, but equally what's the point of making the job harder than what you need to, like what we've done by being relegated in the Nations League in the first place.

Kane has had one average tournament where he still scored 3 goals and people are writing him off!!! Crazy!
he might have a minor injury or just loss of form. His England record is amazing. He is a once in a life time talent and he shouldn’t be retired off just yet. After Watlkins, toney and Wilson, who else is there?0 -
another tournament putting more pressure on the top players simply to make more money for FIFA to steal and/or squander0

I am sure that Kane was not fully fit during the Euros .. I would like to see him move back into midfield where his positioning and passing skills can be fully appreciated (like Bobby Charlton) .. he is too slow nowadays to be a solo striker at top international levelTodds_right_hook said:Kane has had one average tournament where he still scored 3 goals and people are writing him off!!! simple answer, far too many foreigners playing in the Premier League, AND it's becoming the same in the lower leagues. What happened to the requirements for necessary skills to get a work permit ?Todds_right_hook said:Kane has had one average tournament where he still scored 3 goals and people are writing him off!!! I’ve just googled it. 4 Englishmen in the top 6. Palmer, Foden, Watkins and Solanke.Lincsaddick said:

The most recent U21s squad only had Jay Stansfield as an out and out striker , the rest of the attacking options in the form of Noni Madueke, Sam Illing Jr,Morgan Rogers,Jamie Bynoe-Gittins and Jaden Philogene are all wingers.
So looks to be a bit of a problem all around with strikers coming through.1 -
t b h I'm surprised that so many Englishmen are amongst the top scorers, only one of whom got a lot of game time during the Euros (Watkins scored a beauty and was then only brought on as a last resortTodds_right_hook said:

in the final) .. my point stands about foreigners in the Prem, midfielders, defenders as well as strikers and of course managers .. as I mentioned in another post, Southgate failed to make the best use of the player resources at his disposal0 -
It’s funny you say that, because we are lucky to have a proper striker in Leaburn who is very capable of playing in a two or up front on his own. It’s shame about his injuries, because there definitely a path to succeed for him.MarcusH26 said:Todds_right_hook said:

Football does tend to follow fashions. 25 years ago most youngsters would have wanted to be the No 9, whereas in recent years much of the glamour has gone to the No 10 or to the goalscoring inverted wingers. Indeed these days, the No 9 can't just be a goal poacher, he also has to lead the press, creating space for the star No 10s and wingers. Morata has scored only 1 goal for Spain in the Euros, but he's done his job for the team.MarcusH26 said:Todds_right_hook said:

Maybe Haaland will rekindle interest in youngsters to be the dominant No 9 again.1 -

Honestly I could see a fit and firing Miles getting around the U21 squad. Would give them something completely different.0
