What the polls show today is that Labour haven't really made any in-roads apart from in Scotland, clearly Starmer still has a massive question mark against his name for a lot of people. Labour's share of the vote was 34%, in 2019 it was 32% and they got trounced. I could never vote for a right wing Tory party or a left wing Labour party under a Corbyn:
It really isn't absolutely fucking mental because if you only care about you own situation and not the bigger picture then 6.7million * wanted to keep the status quo because they are happy in their 1+ million pound houses, their skiing holidays, summer Cruises, Etc.
I have no political alliance but I always turn up at the polling booth and make a mark on the paper 🤔
It obviously depends where you live but if Thousands can afford £360 pound for a day or two at Glastonbury, three and 4 car families, where I live and surely quite a few of you know this from where you live because we have millions of people in this country doing ok. I would rather pay higher taxes as long as it's spent on Hospitals and the infrastructure and stop the fucking loopholes for tax avoidance for individuals and big companies.
We also have millions struggling to keep their heads above water; they are drowning not waving.
Having slagged off Thatcher in my younger days and her assumption that there's no such thing as society which is utter bollocks.
*Plus the 4 million+ who voted for Reform and many millions who stay at home as they just like to moan at pubs, clubs and golf courses than cast their vote.8 -

This is it (bold text no1). Far too many people vote for what they think is best for their personal situation rather than what they think is best for society. I’ve kept the second bold piece of text because if everyone thought like this then everyone would feel happier about society and as a consequence be happier in their lives generally.
Ask yourself, would I be happy to live in a palace with all possible luxurys, and go out in my black screened chauffered bullet proof limousine through squalor and poverty to a shiny clean heavily secured leisure, shopping and restaurant centre?
This is extreme but an indication of how uncomfortable I felt visiting well-off in-laws in Veracruz, Mexico.

It is a political party that puts up candidates to stand for election. It produces a manifesto. It has elected MPs.
Its structure does not mean it isn't a political party.1 -

Exactly. We have agreed that if the thread is closed it will be because a poster such as you wishes to make a personal attack on another poster, not because of a discussion of content.

I would like to see the thread remain open, or the politics thread move to 'the other side' of the forum as it was before. I realise this is a big ask for the Mods who have a difficult job. I don't understand why people try to get threads closed, If you don't want to take part, just scroll past.
Politics govern our lives and it's good to sensibly discuss different points of view.10 -
This thread was about the exit poll and has served its purpose.
But because the other thread was closed it has been resurrected and has now become the place for the usual suspects to trot out the same old hackneyed lines.
The House of Commons was created to keep that sort of thing off the main site. But the people frequenting it couldn't be trusted to use it responsibly and so it was closed.
That's not a reason to use this thread to try and bring all of that old crap back to the main site. Its tedious. That's my view. You're all welcome to hold a different view. And ultimately the Mods will decide. But I'm sure that bringing this stuff back to the main site via the back door wasnt what was intended.10 -

Did I hear that Farage is now going to “democratise” Reform into what would be a structure we would recognise as a political party and not a company. That’s a good thing regardless of what I think of Reform. Bit of a crossroads for him I think. The notion he was going to take over the Conservative Party is now looking dead in the water so I think he’s left with trying to build on those five seats over the parliament. That’s not going to be easy now all the noise has died down and he won’t get the coverage he’s had. A rebuilt grown up Tory party will I think naturally absorb back some of the votes lost to Reform. I also think there is the consideration as to whether Farage is able to sustain the hard slog of being a day to day MP. He had a ready made excuse for non attendance at EU meetings but that won’t wash in The HoC. It’ll be picked up and weaponised to good effect. Will he be a good constituency MP ? Will he be there every week for constituency clinics ? I’m not so sure. Like I said. A crossroads.3

I’ve always thought that the mods do a brilliant job but those who abuse the thread should just be removed from it. That allows for civilised discussion for those that can behave. As a news & current affairs junkie I think it's a shame that the HoC remains closed and firmly believe that a targeted strike on only a handful of attention seekers, trolls and bad faith posters would have sufficed. But that's just my opinion and I'm not the one who would have to spend their time cleaning up the mess. So I do get it.
Whilst this one is still running, I thought this was interesting. It appears multiple candidates of Reform are literally just names on a piece of paper submitted to the council and made no attempt to engage with the process - no hustings, personalised leafleting, statement to local media, canvassing nor even attended the count, where they came 2nd! I believe a Reform candidate in this area lives 200 miles away, for example, and has admitted to visiting Dorset...once. For a holiday. Would explain why she never attended the hustings, yet she still gathered 8000+ votes somehow.
