Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Greg Docherty.

The 27-year-old joins the Addicks following a four-year spell at Hull City, where he made 143 appearances and lifted the Sky Bet League One title during his debut season with the Tigers.

Docherty has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, with a club option of an additional year, to become Charlton’s seventh signing of the summer.

Manager Nathan Jones commented: “We’re really delighted to get this signing over the line, he’s someone we’ve been chasing for a long time, all through the summer. He’s a player that has been promoted from this league and has been a Championship player for a long period of time. He has real pedigree as a person, an athlete and a player. 

“He’s someone that we’re really thrilled to have acquired, again we’ve had to beat off a lot of opposition for his signature. He’ll add real competition, real strength, real leadership qualities to the team and there is big scope for him to develop and move forward with us.”

    Wow, that happened quick, I only just read about our interest (this time). I don't know all that much about him as a player but he sounds like one who's going to kick lumps out of everyone and add more energy to the midfield. Looking forward to seeing him play

    He's definitely been mentioned as an option a few times, but no concrete link

    I make that the first completely out of the blue signing this summer? Other than a forum rumour I shared from elsewhere an hour or two earlier. I think the rest have all been confirmed by Cawley before the official announcement

    That was very unexpected. A name we have been linked with before. 

    7 new signings before our first pre season is very impressive. The owners are definitely backing Nathan Jones. Very excited for the start of the season.

    No doubt we have announced this because Rich is on holiday and our media team can have a bit of glory for once!
