Plans to allow Millwall Football Club to develop housing around The Den are set to be signed off by Lewisham Council next week.

Lewisham plans to give the Championship club a 999-year lease on both The Den and the adjacent Lions Centre, which is used by the club’s community trust, removing a ban on residential development on the land.

Should be long enough to see you finally beat us at least once?

Just in case - any chance of extending the lease?

999 years. Apt no. Considering the crimes committed at the rusty ol place. Should give you enough time to win something.

999 years is about the length of time we're kept behind after games at The Den.

Now there is a club property speculators can really go for. 999 year lease and no residential development restrictions. Buy it, let the club drop a couple of divisions to diminish the numbers that go to games, move the team to some out of the way place with land that’s cheap as chips and then add to the multitude of expensive high rises that are creeping down the Thames and railway lines. Win/win all around as I see it 😁

I know this post was written with tongue firmly in cheek but what the recent developments at Millwall will do is put to bed the murmurs (and wishful thinking) on here about young James Berylson not being as commited as his late father. It’s early days yet but so far it would seem that James is definitely as commited as his dad, if not more so. He attended over half our home games this season, flying in from Boston each time to attend games. Don’t even think John did that many games and he loved the club.

You’ve earned your lol here, well done

my only worry is that a 999 year lease probably isn’t long enough for the rusty den to witness premier league football

Like it or lump it, Millwall aren't the Millwall of old on the pitch. They've genuinely made some decent signings the last few seasons, Langstaff & Tanganga will further add to that.

I don't think they'll get near the play-offs, but I'd be surprised if they're near relegation next season. Have them down in the same bracket as Preston and Bristol City.

I just hope we can get promoted to close the gap a bit as it's been a proper shit time being so far behind them and Palace.

Hopefully they get the Blythe Spartans version.

    3 loan spells, no goals.

Decent signing, albeit its a big step up.
  • Can’t believe, this has been bumped already, we’re only on preseason!
  • Decent signing especially for the price that's been rumoured (about 700k).

The big question mark of course is that he's never played above league two, but he's scored 103 goals in the last 3 seasons and that's with stepping up a division each year.

Nobody knows whether he will be able to step up to the Championship, but if he does well, his value will significantly increase, while if he struggles they'll be able to get back a significant chunk of his fee, so a bit of a no brainer really.

With the money the Championship teams get now,£700 thousand for Langstaff sounds cheap to me

That's the gamble. Another good season of 20+ goals and they can probably get at least 5-6m for him.

Even with an average season, if they decide to get rid they could probably get at least half back from a league 1 club who'd happily sign him based on what he's done the last 2 seasons.

We won our last five games of last season and if you took our form from when Harris took over we would’ve finished 2nd I believe. Replicating that over the course of a whole season is a different matter though, I think we’ll be hoovering around mid table with an outside chance of nicking a play off spot. You literally never know with the championship though. Great league. You should join us some time 😉

You will be still there in 25/26 season, and hopefully we will be as well. Think positively - 6 points for you to start off with!

The only hoovering will be going on in the Den bogs.

Langstaff is an interesting one, could really go either way - could hust be a good goalscorer and take to the Championship well, could be too big a step up and L1/L2 is his level.

£700k if true isn't a lot for a Championship club though, definitely a risk worth taking for that.
