So Wigan have 20 players either released or returned to parent club. That’s a hell of a turnover.

Yes, lost the most appearances and goals from last season so far. Over half of their league goals have departed. Cambridge are the only other club in that situation. Imagine they will be in the market for some attacking players.

Seems that there are serious cutbacks being made up there judging by Humphrey’s statement.

Would potentially take that tbh.  Solid L1 keeper, appreciate he's 34 but that's not ancient for a keeper.

Although I'd rather a (good) younger option who might stay more than a season or two or have resale value.
  • Wigan losing all those goals and on a small budget does not bode well for them next season. Even in League One they are one of the smaller clubs.  Those fans that saw them win the FA Cup will need to treasure that memory I suspect.

Amos is far better than Isted & AMB.
I'd be happy to have him back.

Nah, no old players for me  - regardless of quality. We need players to come in completely fresh, we have been in a rut for too long. A complete overhaul needed, no room for nostalgia.

    Most  g
oalkeepers improve with experience as long as they're not injury prone.

You’d take Gomez or Konsa though surely? In all seriousness, I do get your point and some are definitely a bit obsessed with signing ex players. But Amos improves us and has promotion winning experience. Although his years at Charlton were generally disappointing (the team, not him personally).

Find it hard to believe he’s not still better than the two we have although he was Wigan’s number 2 this season and I don’t think he played a minute

I watch all the highlights and don't recall any clangers from Amos this/last season.
I'd still prefer the Lincoln goalie based on his performance at The Valley.
    Jensen I think.

I don’t think it’s an obsession with ex-players I think it’s more that we are at such a poor level of football now that even Charlton fans don’t know the “good” players at this level so automatically think of players they do know and most tend to be ex Charlton or players who once had a good game against us.

Iirc although Amos ticks the box as an ex player, didn't he move north for personal reasons?

Amos didn't play all season! To be fair, 1st choice Sam Tickle is an England U21 international, so he's been kept out by a decent keeper.

Anyway, didn't Amos leave us because he wanted to move back up to the Manchester area where his new house was?

To be honest, it isn't nostalgia I think so much as people wanting to contribute to the conversation about signings but not having much knowledge of L1 and L2 squads. You see a list of released players, you want to talk about possible signings, the one you recognise is one who played for us before so you chuck that name in. That's always the way it's come across to me.

Would absolutely sign Humphrys especially on a free. He may have been on big wages at Wigan, but he won’t get a gig in the Championship so his demands may need to be altered based on the market.

He did when he had an offer on the table from both us and Wigan. Things have changed now so he might have to reconsider that.

Yeah possibly and a good point raised, I was only referring to a select few anyway. Ruling out ex players for the sake of it is a bit daft anyway IMO

    Agreed

Although the longer we are at this level the more knowledgeable we are becoming.

They’re cutting back their wage bill, I wouldn’t expect huge quality to replace them
