NFL 2024/25

Might as well get this started now it’s been a few weeks since the Super Bowl…

NFL committee earlier voted in favour of a revamp to the kick off return - effectively adopting the XFL approach to kick offs. I presume they are trying to encourage more kick off returns (2023 had the lowest rate for kick off returns in the league’s history) while minimising the risk of injuries.

Here’s what we can roughly expect it to look like, with a couple of small differences: https://x.com/adamschefter/status/1772615947922149879?s=46&t=ynww82GMl7VKBjthBflU0g

actually really liking the new rule now I've got my head round it. kick offs were becoming really boring recently with no-one bothering to run them back
  • Options
With so many stadiums being enclosed and kickers having absolutely massive range on them, they had to change the ruling or everyone would just kick it into touch every play and you may as well eliminate the need for a kicker for the most part
  • Options
I love the player safety aspect they are going for on tackles and kick offs.

Then they announce 2 games on Christmas Day (Wednesday) so teams could play Sunday, Saturday then Wednesday at the back end of the season, utter nonsense!!

Louis Rees-Zammit signing with the Chiefs. Will be interesting to see if he can make it

I would guess his best chance is signed to practice squad, then maybe get a spot on special teams during the season. Going straight in as a WR or RB would be insane!

I believe there's an extra practice squad slot for international players this year so there's more incentive to take a gamble on someone like LRZ and see if they can make it work. Would be surprised if he made the field straight away or even in preseason.

You'd imagine if there's any coach and side who can scheme for someone raw like LRZ, it'd be the Chiefs. Be very interested to see if he actually does anything. Christian Wade got that 65-yard TD in pre-season but never saw a down of course.

special teams would seem the way to go. With the new rules a player like him could be a perfect KO returner, the timing might be perfect for him

Think the draft is gonna be very interesting.

Am pretty sure Vikings are going be trading up now they have got two first round picks and you have got Giants, Raiders and the Donkeys maybe all looking to move up as well. Will Patriots go QB at 3 or trade to strengthen multiple areas?

Will Cardinals take Marvin Harrison Jr at 4, or rinse one of the QB needy teams

I can see Pats leaning on Brissett for a year and trading down. I'd like us to trade down and still get Harrison Jr, somehow
  • Options
Oh and can I just say, I am hoping Max Crosby being joined by Christian Wilkins are going to be causing carnage this season.

    Probably gonna go 17-0 baby.

Draft night’s finally upon us. As a Vikings fan I’m interested in the direction we go (presumably QB) and what we have to give up to make it happen but as I’m someone who doesn’t watch college football I haven’t got strong opinions about any of the players in the frame (apart from Caleb Williams and his painted nails, definitely a red flag 😁). Anyone else staying up for it?
  • Options
Probably not staying up for it, but interested to see if Pats commit to a new QB or if they take a trade from someone and try and get a couple of positions filled
  • Options
Expecting the Dolphins to trade down a couple of spots and obtain a 3rd round pick too.
  • Options
Will be interesting to see where Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry ends up...

Hoping that at long long last Washington can sign a franchise qb.
  • Options
Doesn't start until 1am our time so will have to just catch up in morning

Here is my stab in the dark

    1. Chicago Bears pick Caleb Williams, QB
    2. Washington Football Team pick Jayden Daniels, QB
    3. New England Patriots pick JJ McCarthy, QB
    4. Arizona Cardinal pick Marvin Harrison Jr, WR
    5. LA Chargers trade pick to Vikings who pick Drake May, QB
    6. NY Giants pick Malik Nabers, WR
    7. Tennessee Titans pick Joe Alt, OLT
    8. Atlanta Falcons pick Dallas turner, EDGE
    9. Chicago Bears pick Jared Verse, EDGE or Rome Odunze
    10. NY Jets pick Brock Bowers, TE or Rome Odunze depending on above pick

  • Options
Don’t watch much college football but Roman Wilson caught my eye the few times I did tune in. WR at Michigan.

    Assuming he’ll be a 2nd/3rd rounder.
  • Options
Gonna stay up for as long as I can, hopefully the Vikings don’t make me wait too long.
  • Options
Caleb Williams will be a bust
  • Options
Williams, Daniels first 2 picks, not much surprise so far.

Do Pats go Maye, McCarthy or trade down?
  • Options
    They go Maye
  • Options
    Well, now what.
  • Options
Looks like the Giants get to take their pick which you imagine will be JJ. Do we have to move up for Penix or can we keep 23.
