I think Dobson has been great and think we should have kept him on.But we have Coventry in that sitting role now and I think we can sign a better player than Dobson to play next to him and offer more going forward.Would have been a 100% worth it to keep on a free but not worth paying a fee for him now9

surely not even we are stupid enough to let him sign a pre-contract and then buy him back.
.....oh wait, Chuks...
total f**k up from start to finish this one18 -
Bailey said:Players come and go but there is no escaping Andy Scott's decision to let CBT, which was probably unavoidable, then Dobson which was avoidable leave the club or in Dobson case attempt to leave the club, in the middle of a free fall towards the bottom four, was nuts. To add insult to injury, after Scott decided our best two players should leave the club, he decided to play with wing backs, totally changing a system mid season. Thank the heavens for Nathan Jones, Theiry Small and a rejuvenated Tennai Watson, Andy Scott is probably walking around the training ground declaring his genius, not !
But we didn't really have a 'formation' before that. Yes we were playing a 4-3-3, but we did not actually have the depth or quality in the wing position and it was not getting the best out of who is probably our most important player (Alfie May).
Moving to a 3-5-2 was what myself and plenty of other people were saying would be a good thing to do, so recruiting for that formation I think was one of the small things that has gone right.
And for as much as I would love CBT as an option, and it is clear Jones feels the same about having someone like that due to bringing in LuaLua - we have not really missed him in my opinion and if/when Dobson goes if we bring in the correct quality it will be the same.6 -
One very interesting line from Jones there which alludes to what a lot of us have been saying - 'There are a lot of things that people think he is good at that I want to actually take out of his game'. I would bet anything that that's his tendency to hare around after the ball regardless of where he should be and his usual decision to react to danger rather than read and predict it before it arrives. Dobson is technically better than he's given credit for but the crunching tackles and big-hearted effort that gets him applause is beneath a player like him if he and the team want to progress higher up the table. Better positioning and reading of the game would make Dobson ready to be a Championship player without too much worry34

As I've said many a time, it's not Charlton that have fucked this up entirely, Dobson has to take some blame for actually agreeing to sign for them in February, especially if he doesn't actually really want to go there12

In my opinion the more refined Dobson of the last couple of games has been very good, and I hope he continues to play and develop that way.4 -

Has the poster who was giving summaries about Dobbo from his Dad vanished from CL? I might have asked before but don't think I found a response.
It would be useful to hear their thoughts now, rather than 60 mins before an away game kickoff.4 -

He got brushed aside way too easily last week at Fleetwood for example.6 -

In my opinion the more refined Dobson of the last couple of games has been very good, and I hope he continues to play and develop that way.Whether we like it or not the club have clearly identified that position (I’m not saying Dobson) as an issue - which is why we tried to bring in McGrandles, and Taylor (who were always injured) and then Coventry.1 -
I think we have to be realistic and say he's gone. End of.14
-
If no other Champ/L1 club was prepared to pay us six figures for him in January, makes me think that we’d be making a mistake by paying over the odds to keep him.4

Thinking back to the Powell title team, Hollands worked hard in midfield, but you wouldn't call him someone just there to be a defensive shield.2
-
I'd like to keep him, the first question is does George want to stay? If the answer is yes, but he is contractually obliged to join Fehervar. What sort of compensation should we pay?
However....
There is plenty of quality out there. Nohan Kenneh, Hibs player currently at Shrewsbury. Freddie Potts, WHU lad who is currently on loan at Wycombe. Potts has goals in him too, scored a blinder against us at the Valley. Maybe Connor could have a word in his ear.

It is possible that Nathan Jones is unaware of what Dobson was obliged to do before he arrived, which often meant charging around like a blue arsed fly trying to put right the mistakes of others, or doing the hard work that players like Gilbey, Fraser and Kirk couldn't be arsed to do.
If we lose Dobbo there will have to be a significant re-set or rebalance, and I am not sure we quite have the players needed to deal with a Dobson sized hole in the squad.4 -
Reality is that the squad will change again this summer and no one player is that good we must build it around them.Jones hopefully will be allowed to decide what he wants.3

I dont know why there is so much conjecture. He has signed a contract with another team for next season. Unless we want to "buy him out" of it then he's gone. And if we start spending money on players we have released, which no doubt will be more expensive than just giving him a better contract back in January, then something is seriously wrong.
Time to move on chaps.12 -

At Wycombe away, the terrace chant will be:
Dobbo’s gong nowhere
La La La La
