Louie Watson - Feb 2025 signed for Crawley til the end of the season (p10)

I think Louie is suffering from Albie Morgan syndrome.
Not strong enough defensively to be trusted alongside Dobson, not threatening enough around the penalty area to be the 10.
Morgan played on the wing at times as a result. It’s the only possible way I could see Louie getting regular minutes in this team now Appleton has made up his mind on him.3 -

It’s the only possible way I could see Louie getting regular minutes in this team now Appleton has made up his mind on him. It’s clearly more than that because we are often crying out for changes and fresh legs in midfield but Appleton still refuses to use Watson, even from the bench. Why does Watson’s defending matter yesterday when we are 2-1 down.Cawley mentioned there was a certain number of appearances that if hit would mean Watson stayed here. My guess is that he is 1 game away from that, or if he’s passed it then Appleton is just not playing him so that Luton want to recall him9 -
He is a Scott signing, and the club want to sign him permanently, but Appleton doesn’t want him, so he is going5

Wonder if Coventry is the replacement or if they have another loan CM in mind? Still think there's a gap to fill if Louie goes back even with Taylor and Mcgrandles fit by the end of the month.1

The league games in which Watson has started:
Wycombe - win
Exeter - win
Blackpool - draw
Reading - win
Wigan - win
Portsmouth - draw
League games subbed on:
Stevenage @60mins - draw (in losing position when coming on)
Shrewsbury @44mins - draw ( already level when coming on)
Lincoln @74mims - loss (already in losing position)
Bolton @78mims - loss (already in losing position)
Carlisle @87mins - draw
Cheltenham @61mins - win (level at coming on)
Burton @66mins - draw (winning at coming on)
Leyton Orient @83mins - loss (already in losing position)
Bristol Rovers @77mins - loss (already in losing position, level, then loss)
I think he has plenty about him, would rather him starting over both Anderson and or Fraser. Anderson may have some better closing down stats, but looking at the above would suggest that, with Watson starting, we play more on the front foot, yeah we don't have Aneke or even Leaburn anymore but bring back the Dobson, Watson, May in his 10ish role and Tedic/ kanu will have enough behind them to not look so gash.28 -
I think we need to cut Karoy a bit of slack. He’s a kid, who’s come in from the cold, lacking match sharpness and been thrown in to the most toxic of environments.Interestingly his numbers are higher than Louis’ as well. Completed more accurate passes per game, completed more accurate passes in the opposition half per game, more than doubles the amount of duels attempted, more than doubled the amount of duels won and more than triples the amount of tackles per game.
We can’t lose sight that the kids need a little leniency to develop into the senior game. Like when being chucked in the deep end.32 -

I think he needs a senior pro alongside him to help him with his positioning while he is still learning..for all Dobbo's qualities, I don't think he is the person to give that guidance as he lacks positional discipline himself.3 -

Different players, but I think all our youngsters need to be cut some slack. Anderson for example is a player that has looksed woefully out of his depth and whose first touch is bad. But he ain't picking himself - he's being thrown into a team playing badly and with little confidence, and where are the seniors putting an arm round his shoulders and encouraging him. And all of the yougsters are in the same boat. W have been doing this for years - too small a squad, bad injury list and hey presto - the youth are expected to lift us magically onto a winning run. The most likely is that we will damage their confidence and we end up giving them away. I've seen nearly every academy player being slated as being useless and to be off loaded in recent weeks (not by everyone, but there are a few who want the entire squad removed) which is hardly doing a service to teh club, the fans and most importantly the players. They need to be out on loan at league 2/national level (Richard Chinn is having a ball at a stuttering Dartford) so time to get off their backs and show a bit of support.9

Wish I could like this multiple times. Some of the wanky comments in here about him after the last 2 games have been a depressing read. Young man, starting his career in an under performing side when he has barely played football this season so is going to take a game or two to get his eye in. He is a very decent talent and needs nurturing and support.
We really need a reserves league or similar again as there are too many squad players not playing any football at all.13 -

Rather Appleton went than him. Always looks good on the ball and clearly wants to play. Absolute joke of a club that just keeps on giving….5
-
If we signed Watson I guarantee he'd be here longer than Appleton4

That would be my guess as to the problem. If so, well, he wouldn’t be the first such footballer, and its up to a manager to manage that.
I'd certainly be more willing to cut Appleton some slack, but it still doesn't explain why he's putting him on the bench, then totally ignoring him.0 -
Some loan deals require the players involvement in the match day squad or there is a payment involved. It depends on the finances of the loan deal0

LW only contributed to one negative change to a match's outcome and contributed to the earning of at least 16 points in 15 matches
Any manager or player who ever puts anything ahead of getting the team the best result possible at any cost is a poisonous arsehole and needs binning off without delay
They can be almost any other sort of arsehole and the least popular prick that ever darkened the training ground but if they do their job on matchday, they're fine.
Lyle Taylor managed to be both in one season. We couldn't do without him, then he chose to put himself first, sionara shitbag.5 -
Could the results in the games were he started not be heavily influenced by the fact that Miles and/or Chuks played in all six!11
-
As the poster said they were playing and are missed, but lets take a closer look shall we.... Forwards available/used and goals scored attached to Watsons Start/ subs appearances.

At its simplest when Watson starts our forwards score more goals and we win more games6 - Sponsored links:

Forward looking midfielder, helps the goal scorers score. A good foil to Dobson, who can pick a pass but his game is more defensive.

It is weird that Appleton's criticism was that players run off Watson considering he replaces him with Fraser, the patron saint of not tracking runners. If he'd switched him with McGrandles I'd get it more as he's a foot in sort of player but to have a totally out of form Fraser be the ideal replacement for Watson makes no sense. I wonder what happened to make Appleton hate him so much. The hairband?14
-
To be fair the hair band does look ridiculous. Must have something to do with it.6

Perhaps Watson doesn't agree with Appletons tactics and tells him so ?0

He would fit in very well here then. Perhaps Charlton Life should put a transfer bid in for him.5 -

Whoever said he can play on the half turn is spot on. Watching Chem knock the ball out wide is so hard to watch when Watson can take it in tight spaces so well.
I've said it before that I get why Appleton didn't like playing him in the double pivot (before CC started playing as the 10. But he's miles better than both Anderson and CC. I'm not big on theories about how much we play players or break clauses or whatever, I do think sometimes managers don't fancy players
But if that's the case, it's another black mark on Apples.4 -
Signing JCH could be the turning point - him and May up top - even if apples plays may in the hole in his 433 nonsense, is a proper threat - the big powerhouse that camara was supposed to be is bakinson i guess and the left footed centre back may allow us to play 352? fiorini i guess is the door opener - jch, bakinson and the centre half all seasoned top end league 1 performers which we need - promising but jch is the key0
-
Starts today so I'm confused now, is he going back or not? Fraser would've been picked if he was, surely. Not a lot makes sense with Appleton so who knows.1
