Out of form? He's started two games since he was first dropped (when he was in form). Fraser has been out of form and how many games does he get?27
-
I mean we don't see training every day. Maybe Watson has been moping about a lot, thinking he should be starting games more and it's shown in his effort levels2

I've read back through this thread. Something isn't right here.7 -
Appleton is creating division in this flimsy squad.
Never good2 -
Appleton is right. Watson hasn’t been good in weeks.People are clinging onto a few good appearances from September / October where admittedly LW was decent, but has been a shadow of that player since.3

I don’t disagree with the sentiment on Fraser. The problem is that the last two times LW has started he’s put in stinkers against Gillingham and Reading.
Yes we won a few games when he was getting starts a few months ago but there was also certain other blokes playing in that team up front that we always struggle to get results without.1 -
Watson has not looked his best for a while but when he is being kept out of the team by probably the most useless player in our squad in Fraser and now a young player who looks out of his depth at his current development it is tougher to trust Appleton.
Especially when he continues to waste the one player who has given us fans a little joy this season in Alfie May.1 -
Even an off form LW brings more to the team than any of our other midfielders bar Dobson.
The team playes with more fluidity, the ball is moved quicker and we appear to have more space because we stretch the opposition.
Even if he misplaced a pass occasionally, he doesn't hide and is always looking for the ball.
If Appleton cannot see that then he doesn't deserve to stay in the job.6 -
Front foot player
has to be in the team with our beige crabby Cnut nothing footballers3 -
Still personally think we should be a lopsided 3-5-2.8

For a team to be successful it needs to be more than the sum of its parts. That’s where a good manager comes in. Currently Charlton are a team less than the sum of its parts. Not good enough to be successful but certainly better than the results and performances have been. The manager has to take some of the blame.3

Kanu - MayDobson can just concentrate on having to protect the defence, May will have a strike partner - and Fraser/Watson wouldn’t have to play in a double pivot - where they have both been ineffective.0 -
With all the players telling @Braziliance that our shite recent performances are down to fatigue, we surely have to see a freshened up line up with Louie starting tomorrow.
+ hopefully Tyreece too.1 -
Watson like all young players go through a dip at some point we saw with Anderson who came back strongly at Bristol .. Watson as lost form badly and so far not really shown when he had a chance to be getting over it …0

In defence T.Watson becomes a right back in a 4 with Thomas left back, reducing the need for CBT to track back as much. So basically 3-5-2 attack, 4-4-2 defence

What Appleton has seen from the rest completely escapes me?1 -
Appleton constantly dropping him when he's played well hasn't helped his confidence and not making the team over lazy players who don't perform either.3
-
Louie Watson is our best player after Alfie May.Apologies to any remaining members of the George Dobson fan club, but Watson is the better player. Not that that needs to be a choice for Appleton. Something isn’t right, there’s no way this manager can watch Watson play and decide he shouldn’t be starting games for Charlton.3
-
He had a couple of bad games but Fraser hasn't had a good game. He should definitely be starting with the options we currently have.5
-
I’ve found Appleton’s quote from a few months ago - he felt Watson needs to improve defensively.
What doesn’t make sense is we were winning games when he was in the team but Appleton continued to back Fraser. Fraser’s strengths aren’t defending either and the extra mobility and energy Watson brought to the team was making a difference.
Where Fraser could justify his place is if he had been scoring goals. There’s a quote in another article in which Appleton said he had a good game and was getting into goalscoring positions. Perhaps he gave him a run in the hope the goals would start to follow, but Fraser doesn’t look the player he was last season.
https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-boss-explains-why-luton-town-loanee-did-not-start-and-wants-transfer-window-additions“What he does bring is he is a good carrier of the ball and good passer of the ball,” said Appleton. “What a lot of people won’t see, and this is just part of his development, is when the opposition midfield run off the back of him. That can hurt us at times.
“Louie is going to be a good footballer. We have to be patient with him. He’ll get his minutes at the right time.
“It’s like anything – you win a game of football and everything is good. You lose a game of football and everything is bad – people want to see the negative side of everything, I get that and understand that. But from an educational point of view and development point of view, I’ve done it many times before and I’ll continue to do it with Louie.”

Watson can take the ball on the half turn off the defence too , which none of the other midfielders can .9

Appleton is thick as shit9
