People that use bad characteristics as some sort of badge of honour. Was watching Masterchef last night and one of the women said “I don’t stop talking” like we would find it endearing. She then proceeded to talk through the whole challenge which was just annoying as fuck. It’s like people that say “I’m always late…haha”…that’s not funny mate, you’re just rude.

Then the other bloke on there went “my food is like me, big and bold”. He was fat.
Not too fat to fit through the exit though

That pink anti skid road surface that councils put down on the approach to roundabouts and junctions which then wears away three times faster than normal tarmac leaving a crappy pitted road that requires you to swerve round the cracks because it hasnt been properly maintained. If youre not going to look after it, council, dont apply the bloody stuff in the first place.

Actually, sounds a bit like me, maybe I should take that back. People who think you should let sleeping dogs 🐕 lie.

Having to take a whole day off because the only slot British Gas can guarantee for a boiler repair is 5 hours long. Especially when the guy had a puncture last week and didn’t come so it’s the second week in a row! Still not here yet btw.
  • Christmas and how we’re force fed it, whether we like it or not and the ridiculous notion it’s such a wonderful time all round, which it’s clearly not.

It does lose its sparkle as you get older.
Great when you have kids but when they have grown up and left, its hard to work up the enthusiasm after the weeks of build up.

I love Christmas, but people that continually go on about it and make it earlier each year are slowly sucking the life out of it. We don’t give a fuck if you put your tree up in November, you’re not edgy.

100% this. How can something that lasts two months of every year be "special"?

Similarly, people who are desperate to tell anyone who will listen how much they hate Christmas. Congratulations. No one cares.

And those fkn great tables in the ads laden with food which nobody in their right mind would think of buying or be able to afford.

Just because it is 'clearly not' to you, doesn't mean the rest of us cannot enjoy it.

Isn't that rather the point of this thread? People sharing what annoys them.

I'm sure no-one cares that people that park in family parking spaces at the supermarket but then leave an adult and the kids in the car whilst they shop really annoy me.

  • Nah i like Christmas. The only time the world actually relaxes. Pub in London around Christmas time is still magical for me.

Er…. read thread title and did I say that no one else can enjoy it? That’s right, NO.

    Christmas is a good one

For me, since being a young teen I was profoundly aware and felt guilty about anyone who it was an amplification of destitution, loneliness, loss. It wasn't a conscious thing, but I felt the adverts and commercialisation was a bit, dunno, for the sake of me not finding the right words let's say gluttony of Christmas. I was a pretty thick kid so it wasn't something I could ever express without being called weird.

Thats not to say I dont want people to enjoy Christmas but no other time of the year do I feel more acutely aware of how abjectly horrible it must be for a lot of people. I love the lights in the week or so before Christmas, I like I like non-christmas, Christmas films like Die Hard, Harry Potter, James Bond films on terrestrial TV and I will fight anyone who disagrees with my view that the muppets Christmas Carol is the truest depiction of Charles Dickens finest work, I love the darts and watching worlds strongest man in the Gooch between Christmas and New year. I don't like outward, showy, theatric grumpiness about Christmas in the same way I detest anyone who films themselves doing something charitable (this absolutely isn't aimed at anyone here).

I really cringe at the perfect Christmas adverts of massive spreads of food, nuclear,  perfect ethnically diverse families. I've had a lot of personal loss this year and maybe I've been trying to condition myself for it and the realisation that the family gatherings I'd huff about going to don't happen anymore because the people who were the glue are not around, those who effortlessly but probably anything but effortlessly pulled together.

So yeah, seeing the commercialisation of Christmas from the start of November is giving me a low level, dull, rumbling, unpleasant growl in my stomach that will last for most of 2 months. My wife loves Christmas and I act really hard to not dampen that genuine love for the occasion but in truth I want to be away from the United Kingdom for the whole thing which I know she would hate.

It is, but I’m talking about people who love to tell you in real life, as someone who put it better than me said, because they think it makes them look wayward and edgy. I was just reminded of it by comments on this thread.

Very good post, this. It doesn't sound to me as if you'd have been thick as a kid. It strikes me from this post that you were very perceptive, perhaps someone whose eloquence hadn't yet caught up with their intellect. Sorry to hear it's been a tough year for you. Put me down as another that doesn't feel comfortable with the over commercialisation of Christmas.

I have know idea how to say it. Is is a short E as in Eric or a long E like the things you listen with. Never knowing, I use the two interchangeably presumably managing to piss everyone off.
