Blimey @Bedsaddick, I know you said the tumour was pretty invasive, but I didn't realise it affected that many organs. I really hope you'll be feeling well enough to make it to the Valley for the Orient game.
@Covered End sorry to hear you've the dubious honour of joining the club on this thread. Hopefully the PSA test means it's been caught in time, so you won't need further invasive treatment.
A big day for me today...not huge in the scheme of things, but after 12 days in hospital I'm hoping and praying that I'll be sent home! Once home I have to wait for 2 weeks and then my radiotherapy and chemo can start. I'll have 5 weeks of treatment and then the tumour will be re-evaluated. Beyond that it's a further 7 weeks of rest, BUT I'm hoping to get to The Valley for at least 1 home game. No ST for me this year, although if its possible I might try and get a half ST in January 24. I'm on the pathway and the fight is on! Take care all and stay safe Malc x

Morning all, came home last night, now in a kind of isolation as need to recuperate and get ready for the radiotherapy and chemo. Slept for nearly 12 hours and woke to see a NEW takeover thread V3.0, and then Cawleys piece about EFL approval of SE7 being granted. Today is going to be a very good day and has lifted my spirits considerably! Finally thanks again for all the best wishes and motivational comments, it has really helped. However special thanks to my mate @TCE for keeping you updated and making me laugh. Next battle starts soon. Take care all and I hope to see you down The Valley sometime this season x Cheers Malc x
Well as I'm in good company, I'll declare that after the PSA blood test at The Valley on February 11th, I got a red text the following day. Hmm, I wasn't expecting that. Long story short, after months of tests, scans, biopsies, I had a prostatectomy last Thursday 6th July. Just recovering now and hoping to be fit for the start of the season. Hopefully it hasn't spread and early indicators are it hasn't, will find out more in the coming weeks/months. I've had a better 5 months.
Back at the hospital yesterday for catheter removal/tests and to see the consultant for histology result. There was no evidence that the cancer had spread outside of the prostate, so now I need to recover and then it's PSA blood tests after 8 weeks, 3 months for a year, 6 months for a year, then annually from 3-10 years.

Glad you are out and recuperating. It seems they are throwing everything thing at you. I my case they have only given me chemo which restricts what I can do and when i have infusions every 2 weeks and often clashes eith home matches but i feel we can all beat this thing. Stay strong
Went to see the Lass in Salisbury hospital to be told that her consultant popped in to tell her that the recent CT scan shows the lymph nodes have all reduced which proves that the chemo is working, 3 chemos to go. Some good news at last and I wish RM Beds, CE, HA and others who are fighting this disease all the best and hope that the Lass's treatment continues to work.
Hi all, just wanted to give an update on the latest situation. I have been chosen for a newish type of cancer treatment called 'total neoadjuvant therapy' (TNT for short). I have 2 separate appointments on 18th Aug and 6th Sept, to see 2 different specialists that will combine together to deliver this new treatment here in Leicestershire. Having done a little reading on it, it has an 84% success rate which could negate/reduce the need for surgery! I'm still very tired and lack energy but apparently this will continue until I can beat the cancer. Good news is, having lost weight down to 10st (from 13 1/2) I've now put on just over 1/2 stone in a about a week. The specialists want me to aim for 11st and maintain it if possible. Finally, and this was a huge surprise, I received a video message from Mr Dean Holden wishing me all the best in my recovery and that was from everyone at the club. I have to be honest and say I cried when I saw it....what a kind person he is! He didn't have to do it. My only sadness is that I'm unable to buy a ST as I will not be fit enough to get to the games for quite awhile yet. I hope to see you down the Valley around Christmas time...god-willing! @lancashire lad so happy to read your excellent news and I hope that a huge corner has been turned. Also best wishes to everyone else fighting this terrible disease, may we all succeed!
thanks Malc, glad to hear your positive news and the message from DH who really seems to be top notch. it is all so complicated this cancer treatment, while The Lass's chemo is seemingly successful it transpires that his is only the first step and she is now being assessed for a bone marrow transplant at Southampton which involved at least 4 weeks in isolation as they reduce her immunity to infection to zero and then build her back up. She has to go to Southampton for further assessment to see if she is medically fit enough to undergo the treatment, as the consultant said "you don't want her to go to Southampton and not come back", if she doesn't have this treatment it is likely that the lymphoma will return and then more chemo ad infinitum.
That sounds good news @Redmidland. Good luck with it all. And what a boost to morale to get the message from Dean!
Worrying times for you and your wife, @lancashire lad, but a much easier decision than it would have been 3 years ago when covid was at its height. I am sure they have now got their isolation spot-on at Southampton and will take great care of her. Good news that the chemo is having the desired effect.
I hope the TNT blasts your cancer @Redmidland and that you enjoy some lovely meals in the meantime to gain some pounds. Maybe HelloFresh/M&S or something similar can inspire/help out with new recipe ideas. How lovely to receive such a personal response from Dean and the club.

Had my operation a week ago. Unfortunately I got an infection - sepsis. Caused my right lung to collapse. Put in nasal gastric tube to drain the stomach. finally taken off all oxygen, drips and tubes yesterday. Recovery now starts. Not a good few days.

Best wishes HardyAddick. My operation was 4 weeks tomorrow and hopefully I'm over the worst now. I'll be more confident after the first PSA blood test result, assuming it's what I'm hoping for. You'll get there and try to take strength from knowing there's quite a number going through the wringer. Best wishes to everyone with their struggles.

Glad it is behind you now, and I hope the rest of your recovery is plain sailing.
