U20 World Cup

Gets underway next weekend (20th) and is being held in Argentina.

England qualified as winners of last years U19 Euro's so a lot of the squad are similar to then. We have Tunisia, Uruguay and Iraq in our group so should get through the group without much hassle.

Poorly timed though as because it starts before the end of the season, clubs are not obliged to release their players for it. As a result players such as Rico Lewis, Lewis Hall and Bynoe-Gittens from Dortmund are not in our squad.

Our squad was confirmed today and is:

Goalkeepers: Beadle (Brighton & Hove Albion), Cox (Brentford), Sharman-Lowe (Chelsea)

Defenders: Doyle (Coventry City, loan from Manchester City), Edwards (Peterborough United), Humphreys (Paderborn, loan from Chelsea), Norton-Cuffy (Coventry City, loan from Arsenal), Oyegoke (Brentford), Quansah (Liverpool), Samuels (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Midfielders: Chukwuemeka (Chelsea), Devine (Tottenham Hotspur), Edozie (Southampton), Gyabi (Leeds United), Ramsey (Middlesbrough, loan from Aston Villa), Scott (Bristol City), Vale (Chelsea)

Forwards: Delap (Manchester City), Jebbison (Sheffield United), Joseph (Leeds United), Scarlett (Tottenham Hotspur)

  • Not sure how Leaburn hasn't made this, considering the season he has had..
  • Two former Lions in that squad, which is nice to see.

To be fair, JRS has probably at least as good a claim

I believe he is the year above
  • Good to see Beadle in the squad, even though he's not part of our Academy anymore.

Truly devastated that Leaburn isnt involved, and getting all that extra scouting exposure ;)
  • It’s a fair point about the extra scouting exposure. The premier league bias is unreal though with Dane Scarlett only getting 4 goals and 1 assist compared to Leaburn’s 12 goals and 2 assists with only 1 more appearance
  • Watched the 3rd under 20 World Cup take place In Australia in 1981.
Andy Peale and Michael Small played and would go on to play for Charlton.

England lost to Qatar in half final played at Sydney Cricket Ground.
  • Not sure Liam Delap has done to be in the squad. Two mediocre loan spells in the Championship, and he's hardly been prolific in the England youth ranks either.

So he is. I was under the impression that it is age by the start of the tournament and as he won't be 21 'til October he would qualify but, actually, it is age at the end of the year in which the competition is held.
