100% i can McG leaving. If there's not much between him and AMB, or as looks likely there's a chance AMB is better, then it's a no brainer to get McG off the wage bill.Kap10 said:
Woolacott must be concerned that Garner has gone, with AMB playing well.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Looks a better keeper than Woolacott to me - seems more confident.
McG should leave in January, I'd imagine he is on a decent wage too!0 -

Would imagine the problem would be getting a buyer for him. If he's gone from established 1st choice to fighting for a place on the bench he's unlikely to be in high demand unless he drops his wage. And if he's NOT going somewhere to be first choice, why accept less money to be 2nd choice somewhere else?Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Hope this is the right thread. I'll be absolutely gutted for AMB if he has to miss Tuesday's game (due to sustaining a concussion, in case anyone missed it). Having MacG standing in doesn't fill me with confidence either, not that I had much in us in the first place!8

He’s had previous concussions too. Quite worrying for the lad.3

There's an Australian cricketer, Will Pucovski, who at the age of 24 had suffered 11 concussions. He'd start to incur concussion from more obscure things later down the line, such as being hit by a volleyball in warmup, falling over while running between the wickets.Surely an underlying weakness begins to form? Hope this isn't the case with AMB as he plays in a position that clubs don't tolerate an injury profile.2

Spoke to AMB yesterday. 2-3 days away from return, so touch and go for Tuesday, but nothing serious. He has all the attributes to be our next Nick Pope, but hope we can hold on to him longer than Nick… Will get a lot of unwanted attention all the while we are in League One that’s for sure.6

He was the one I was thinking off yesterday. If someone is repeatedly suffering concussion, you do fear for their long term future in any sport.mendonca said:There's an Australian cricketer, Will Pucovski, who at the age of 24 had suffered 11 concussions. What a save that was, tonight. Deflected, saw it very late, and was down by his ankles. Really top draw reflexes to get down to it, and, not only that, he also parried it well away from danger when he could easily have pushed it in front of an on-rushing attacker. I'm liking the cut of his jib. Hopefully he can learn to keep his head out of the way of stuff, or perhaps he can start playing in a crash helmet.

No idea if it helps with concussions but might be an idea to get him playing in one of those caps that Petr Cech did for all those years.Exiled_Addick said:What a save that was, tonight. Got that big game/big moment mentality that some players just have. Can't be taught but really important especially for a keeper. Won't be with us for long I fear. Boy will go right to the top.4

Feels like the first proper keeper we have had for years. Strong, brave, comes out for the ball and a good shotstopper.4

Out of contract in the summer isn’t he ?0
 -

Yeah but think we can trigger an extension - which wouldn’t be awful if that’s the case. Need to tie him down long term.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Out of contract in the summer isn’t he ?2 -
I believe 100% that had Garner not come in the summer and brought Woolacot then AMB would have been our first choice then.1

18 months ago, or so, CMac was getting voted player of the year at Pompey. A year ago he’d have felt secure as No. 1 at Charlton. 6 months ago AMB was expecting to start on loan for a struggling league 2 side. A month or two ago Wollacott was looking forward to starting in goal for Ghana at a World Cup. A couple of injuries at the right/wrong time and now one is surplus to requirements, one will return from injury a bench warmer, while the person in third place at the start of the season is now firmly in first place.
Funny ‘ol game.

Been told he’s having an op on his nose today
was told to wear a protective mask last night
but he’ll be good for Saturday6 -
With him being injury prone, I'm happy we have him AND Jojo.7

That won't last for long though as i doubt Wollacott who has had a taste of international football is going to be happy at being a number 2 for long.mendonca said:With him being injury prone, I'm happy we have him AND Jojo.
That said he bounced around half a dozen loans before going to Swindon so he might just decide to stick with it and that with AMB being injury prone he'll get a chance soon enough.0 -
Agree but it's the only way to keep the goalie department strong. Like Phillips and Amos.0
 -
Think some are being a bit harsh on Woolacott, who honestly didn't really do much wrong and would surely have benefitted from Holden's newly imposed defensive system if it had been him in goal.
That said, its definitely AMB in between the sticks for the foreseeable future, even once Woolacott is fit again. Hopefully they can provide cover/competition for each other.23 -
AMB plays with such confidence and has good decision making. His biggest issue seems to be injuries.
I hope he gets the chance to play at a higher level as he has a lot of potential.1 -
Seems bizarre that he should have been out on loan at Gillingham and would never played in the Brighton game.

Did he get a touch on the freekick that hit the post?0
 -
It quite early in his career as a keeper and already Charlton fans going OTT. One mistake and others will say he's not all that.
Definitely shows promise and has a great temperament.1 -
Is he better than Woolacott? Don't think there is much between them8
