Garner Gawn? (Ed. CORRECT - GARNER SACKED p6, and again by Colchester p32)

I did notice at the weekend a twitter comment by a family member of a former manager questioning why Martin needs training gear with MS on it...Airman Brown said:I was told on Saturday that Garner was out. The information was credible but before I looked into it the source recanted, saying it was a misunderstanding. Then the rumours took off on Sunday and Sandgaard explicitly denied it was true.
Garner took training today and it then emerged he’d been sacked.
It’s possible he knew Saturday and Sandgaard was lying on Sunday but fans knew already.
I’m not a huge Garner fan but it is extremely obvious that he was better equipped for his role than Sandgaard is for his.
As for Martin Sandgaard holding any role on the football side or Raelynn Maloney in the business, both are big red flags.5 -

Is it? Adkins was sacked a month after that game last seasonCallumcafc said:Two seasons in a row we've lost to Cheltenham at home and then sacked the manager.3 -
I do find it somewhat disrespectful to our club that this has happened today, announced at the time the 49th anniversary of the actual pompey game was being played, reaks out well out of touch ownership2

So we are! Bloody hell, did you have to lure me into this trap?aliwibble said:PWR the 500 or so posts on this thread so far - oh for fuck's sake. Is he just trying to piss us off now? The timing is utterly ridiculous, both in terms of being on the very day of the Back to the Valley 30th anniversary, and 2 days before we're live on terrestrial TV. Looking like the world's least surprising cup upset on the way at Stockport then.1 -
I always took the view that either of them had any significant input into decisions within the club with a massive pinch of salt. Mainly because I didnt think the owner would be stupid enough to allow it. Seems I was wrong.Airman Brown said:I was told on Saturday that Garner was out. Sadly I think that we are the ego trip plaything of a deluded mob of idiots. I suspect TS will stay very low profile from now on until he finds a way out0 -
Almost as if the absentee owner wanted to give us the two fingers on the 30th anniversary. From one of the great days in our history to another nadir. The fault is not with the manager(s). It's with an owner whose ego easily outstrips his ability, interest or wallet1

I think Varney wants a bigger attendance at the game so that there are more bodies to choose our next manager from. Fuck the crossbar challenge, we cannot do worse...3
-
I feel really gutted about this as we all know he never had the players required. The owner knew this also, so I really don’t know what to make of it unless The owner wants out and the new owner wants a different manager in.0

I’m hearing rumours David Artell has been approached , a very cheap option good at developing young players0

When he took over at ours we was an absolute shambles and we looked like we was going to drop in to the bottom tier. He kept us up with a few games to spare.Todds_right_hook said:

he would be another Adkins style appointment. It's a no from meThe following season, his first full season, he got us to the play off final, the season after that he got us promoted. He also got us to an FA cup semi final. He got both wolves and Swansea promoted out of the third tier and won the EFL trophy with Pompey. As I said earlier, I’m not sure why it didn’t work for him at Orient. Maybe it was just a bad fit. But you can’t judge his whole managerial career on that one stint with them.Oh, and he’s nothing like that clown Adkins. He’s an articulate, sensible and pragmatic bloke. He doesn’t talk like some CBeebies kids tv presenter.21 -

Don’t even go down that line. My wife said something along that line earlier this evening.Cafc43v3r said:

OK Martin, you picked Garner, so much for what you know about English league 1 football. Now who will you advise your dad to appoint now. You stopped him appointing a so called top manager, and Garner was obviously cheaper. We know that TS appoints top advisors, who he later sacks, so who will he ask this time? 🤔🥱☹️0

When has anything Sandgaard said matches what he does.Todds_right_hook said:
My point was that sandgaard sacked Jackson because he didn't play a high press, possession based game. That's why garner was appointed. Appointing jackett with his hoofing it up to a big man style goes against everything he has saidMillwallFan said:
He was successful in varying degrees at ours, Swansea and wolves, getting several promotions under his belt, done ok ish at pompey, but for some reason it didn’t work for him at orient.Cafc43v3r said:

Most won't know a long ball merchant or hoofball if it hit them on the head...He has a hell of a lot of connections in football. Something that could really benefit charlton, seeing as DD doesn’t seem to want to spend any money now. And he can run the playing side of a club from top to bottom. He’s a calm head but doesn’t suffer fools gladly. He could be the perfect fit for you.3 -
That really made me laugh!!Bailey said:
With Russell & Bromley taking over for the league games, with a front three of Freeman Hardy Willis. It matters not now as everyone realises that any manager is going to be shafted from the start by Sandgaard.soapboxsam said:Hayes and Pearce for the Cup replay I would assume ?

Outside punt.....Duncan Ferguson. Doubt he'd take a league one job, but ive always thought he'd make a decent manager.
Zero chance though I'd imagine1 -

Would be a great press conference - he could head butt Tommy and smash Martin over the head with his Daddy’s banjo and then resign.Gravesend_Addick said:Outside punt.....Duncan Ferguson. Doubt he'd take a league one job, but ive always thought he'd make a decent manager.

It comes to something when I am considering going onto the House of Commoners section for a bit of light relief from the football news34

Zero chance though I'd imaginePMSL at the thought of that one. Particularly the mental image of him chinning MS for telling him he couldn't sign the players we need to strengthen.2
