R I P Doddie.. more proof that Rugby is potentially a dangerous game .. if there is any benefit from his predicament, it is that more attention has been drawn to a horrible disease and his charity has raised a lot of funding for research into possible treatments and a cure .. great shame

It was so awful to see how Doddie went downhill as a result of this dreadful disorder.

MND is probably the worst disorder that can inflict a person.  It gets a lot of coverage on the local news here.  It's heart breaking what it does to people.  In that sense it's a release.

    RIP big man

  • I met Doddie on a stag do in 2007 (I think) - friend I work with is ex Scotland rugby intl player - stag do was in Manchester - whilst some of the other ex pro rugby players were a bit standoffish, he was a lovely lovely man - made a point of coming over and saying hello, wanted to know about me and my mate, very funny, consumed beer like it was going out of fashion - did some outrageous things that weekend which I can’t post on CL 😂😂😂

RIP - passing at 52 - same age as me - so so sad

Very sad news to hear of Doddie's passing. Have been following the brave fight of Doddie, Rob Burrow and Stephen Darby against this terrible disease.

Only last week Kevin Sinfield and his support team ran a week of ultra marathons to raise funds for MND. Let's hope that the brave fight of people like Doddie  Rob and Stephen results in a cure for this cruel disease.
  • No age, as brave off the pitch as on it.

    RIP big man.
  • RIP. Such a nice man.

RIP, this proper sucks.  Doing something you live shouldn't leave debilitated and then dead  decades ahead of your time.

Unfortunately dont think there is anything that links back to MND, like what dementia does with heading a ball - Just feels a cruel lottery

I don't know, if you look at the famous people that have been inflicted there does seem to be a high proportion of people that played contact sports.  American Football and Rugby seem especially high.

I didn't realise Marcus Stewart has just been diagnosed :-(
