It's back to being like watching Charlton 🤣

At least we play against football teams, Iran are the San Marino of the dessert. This game and result means nothing.
    Iran really aren't.

Can see why the Iran 'keeper isnt first choice

    Queiroz reaction makes sense now

Iran definitely aren’t “the San Marino of the desert”. Decent team, ranked in the world top 20 and have players playing at a good level. Not sure what’s happened today, possibly the political things going on at home plus the injury farce with the goalkeeper have knocked them off their stride, but this is a very decent win for England.

Is this our biggest win against a team in the top 20 at the World Cup?

Panama was great, but dont remember scoring five very often
I don't think we have really got out of second gear either tbh.

Top 20 fifa team with many players in decent European leagues.

Put his hands on his head looking defeated as soon as the keeper was forced into replacing. Obviously knew this keeper wasn't up to chuff.

    Iran 0-1 Argentina, 2014 WC
    Iran 1-1 Portugal, 2018 WC
    Iran 0-1 Spain, 2018 WC

Bit disrespectful to call them the San Marino of the desert. They are a well drilled team who are typically very difficult to beat.

On today’s showing they are, I know we can only play or beat what is in front of us but they are shocking.

Did the commentator just say 45k attendance out of a 65k capacity?

I'd still back them to get results in their other games. They've looked poor today but we'll only find out in time if that's because we've made them look poor.

Gareth Southgate first England manager to have a team that scores four or more at a World Cup more than once (also Panama in 2018).

Azmoun getting a really good reception. He has spoken out in favor of the protests for women's rights going on in Iran.

So apart, Panama (Its Panama), this is the only time we've scored more than four goals a Group game since the 4-4 draw with Belgium in 1954 - Biggest win previously against a top 20 Nation @ the World Cup, was the 2002 RO16 win over Denmark, when we beat them 3-0

You have a very good memory 😄
  • If England are going to win this, it won't be via 1-0 shutouts. Our strength is up front, we've tore apart a previously solid Iranian team

Remember that performance in '54 like it was yesterday mate ;)
  • How do we get Foden in the first XI? I love the pockets of space he picks up.

That last one doesn't could because even Heskey scored.

Only slot I'd give him is Mount's... Sterling and Saka have been excellent

You can't drop Saka now so you'd be looking at competing with Mount, Sterling, Rashford, Grealish for two places in the line-up.

Putting all the political stuff to one side I've thourghly enjoyed this game.
  • Oh god sake... Cmon, I've gotta go get my Son from School in 10mins

They're not gonna be happy when I'm forced to tell them the reasons I was late, was because the England game just wouldnt end

Dunno... He's in reception anyway, and doesnt have much interest in Football at the moment, if he doesnt buck his ideas up in a few years, he'll be up for adoption
