  • Southgate has been deliberating between Saka and Phil Foden for England’s opening game against Iran, with the Arsenal star hopeful of getting the nod.

The England manager is in line to start with a back four and use both Saka and Mason Mount in advanced positions. The pair sparked a brilliant turnaround as substitutes in England’s last warm-up game against Germany, with the Chelsea midfielder scoring.

    Imagine it'll be Trippier.
  • Would be very happy to see Saka start.

  • "Southgate will opt for a 4-2-3-1 of Pickford; Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Bellingham; Mount; Sterling, Kane and Saka."
  • TBH we could play the Charlton 1st team.  And we just lost against Port Vale.
  • Cmon England!

Set my alarm for 6am so I can catch all the action. These events every couple of years always make me wish I was back home for them.

  • Keep an eye on Iran’s goalkeeper Beiranvand, has a wicked long throw on him

9pm K.O. here in China. Not to late in the night. I usually go to bed before 10pm on weekdays but I'm going to watch this whole game tonight and hopefully England will win. 💪
Will be 9pm in Perth, WA too! Was going to head off to the local to watch it only to be told they're operating under their normal hours on a Monday so closing at 10pm. WTH! Gotta love sleepy old Perth.  :*
  • I would play Saka, Kane and Foden as the front three personally.

Then Bellingham, Rice and Mount deeper.

Back 4 - Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw.

It’s Iran FFS we don’t need 3 centre backs. A back 4 with Stones and Maguire was our strength at the Euros
Agree with this. Don’t see why he can’t start with Foden AND Saka. Drop Mount.

  • School is closed due to covid again, looks like I’m watching all 3 games tonight.

(Unless england lose, I throw a tantrum and go home)

    Mount isn't the issue.

Sterling will 100% be picked over both Foden and Saka. That's why they're fighting over one spot.
  • Iran reminds me of IT Crowd.

  • Solid first XI (I wouldn't have Maquire though)....Rice and Bellingham have to start, the latter most certainly isn't a defensive midfielder. To be fair, we've so many options in those wide attacking areas, if whoever gets the nod isn't producing then there's plenty on the bench to come on.

Subs in this tournament will be key (as they were for the women's team in the Euro's)

    C'mon Eng

For a minute there I thought you were suggesting Jacob Rees-Mogg would be selected!
Mogg would be an excellent choice if we needed an own goal specialist...

And if we lost he would be good in the post match interview. He would simply say we won and that goals scored against us in the first half didn’t count as we made substitutions after that so they were scored against a different team.

Amd insist that results under the previous manager don't count.

I've gone for 3-0 also - Kane 2 and Grealish on as a late sub.
