Okay guys, I am clearly not allowed to criticise an ex player and we have derailed the Burstow thread for long enough.

Lets revisit both threads in 12 months time and see where the two superstars are at in their careers
Claiming somebody is nicking a living is just a twatty comment. You intentionally invited the heat.

what's with everyone digging out Mike?

    he said

"From the outside it looks like he is nicking a living from the game"

which I don't think is an unfair comment when you consider that it's widely accepted that he's a lazy trainer that bounces between clubs.

He might be a poor trainer but he is a very good player and he definitely isn't nicking a living.

Lookman stood out in L1 and it was obvious he’d have a career in the top flight.

Burstow nicked a few goals but didn’t show anywhere near the talent Lookman did. If he has a career at the top level he’d have improved a lot. He has the potential to but I don’t see it as almost certain in the way I did for Lookman.

I think it's more crossed purposes to be honest. No-one is saying that Lookman is a world-beater, no-one's called him a 'superstar', people are pointing out that even if he hasn't met people's thresholds of a very good player he's still managed to take in three top leagues, making millions of pounds along the way. Is he nicking a living or is he being paid the money clubs commit to pay him over and over again? The point is that whether he's doing brilliantly or not he's still had and is having a great career that most people would kill to get near.

“Widely accepted”? By whom, and based on what authoritative source?

Dave widely accepts it like he accepts that Fulham and Leicester couldn’t wait to get rid of him, which is untrue on both counts .

I vividly remember Karel Fraye being asked if there were any lazy trainers.

He replied "Look man I'm not gonna answer that".

    I read between the lines.

An astutely shrewd communicator was Fraeye and depths of subtext that would make Kafka blush.

Early days I know, not sayings its a possibility but I don't think any Charlton fan would take him back this season on a season long loan, most would prefer we gave Miles Leaburn a chance.

So far I’ve been more impressed with Leaburn than I was with Burstow, he looks more ready to play with grown men.

I agree. Probably helps that his Dad was 19 when Steve Wicks pole-axed him off the ball  during the Battle of the Bridge :D

Leaburn looks more of a "complete" player than Burstow did at the same age, Burstow had a streak of goals in him but Leaburn looks like he brings more to the table overall.

It's hard to say for sure when they are both still young, one, both or neither might well go on to emulate Lookman or Shelvey and establish themselves but certainly I personally wouldn't have Burstow back if it meant Leaburn dropping out of the squad.

Never convinced by Mason like others who came through. Leaburn seems much more realistic prospect. Hope Mason goes on to prove me wrong but I didn't see the potential there like I do with young Miles.

If 'trusted posters' say it then it must be true. How many posters are in this category?

Worth remembering how good Mason looked at U18/23 level. That goal in the semi-final of the youth FA Cup was Mendonca-level composure. He struggled at men's football but he's 19. If Leaburn struggles we'll say he's being pushed too soon.

    Bizarre comments about Lookman.

He was Fulham’s best player while on loan but they got relegated so they couldn’t keep him. He was one of Leicester’s biggest threats last season but for whatever reason, financial or otherwise, they couldn’t keep him permanently despite wanting to.

He’s made 100+ appearances in top flight football across two countries, soon to be three, and as a full international with Nigeria.

Seems like a pretty decent, hard working player to me.

There are a couple of managers at Everton who called him lazy. You have to wonder with the way Everton have gone down the toilet in recent years, if managers such as Allardyce found the young flair player an easy scapegoat for their own poor performances.

If that’s how you feel, that’s fine but when the question is asked and people say he’s a poor trainer, why don’t you/isn’t that pulled up? It tends to have responses like, that’s a shame, hope he turns that round etc Mike made a comment that I think had an argument to it and he’s told he’s talking horseshit.

I defend his comment and apparently I think Fulham and Leicester wanted  shot of him

Am I alone in scratching my head at this. What can he possibly learn from playing in the Southern Counties League (or whatever it is). Hope he’s enjoying the extra pocket money. Could have been leading the line in league 1 learning his trade.
