Out of our 4 wins this season, 3 of them we have had less possession than the opposition. The one we had more was against 10 men for over half the game0

Same for when we’re losing, opponents are happy for us to have the ball in our own half and will sit back in numbers being hard to break down.1 -

So many league 1 goals are scored from 2 or 3 passes after you get possession.

The problem is we've also conceded eight goals after the 76th minute.2

There's no context though is there?
I wonder how many passes he attempted that were more than say 6 yards, compared to the hapless Albie Morgan for example1 -
Campbell only made 19 passes, our second fewest. The stat is pretty meaningless, especially as it’s probably that high due to Garner-ball rather than anything we are doing now. We did pass the ball far better than we have recently though, Fraser and Morgan definitely made a positive difference replacing Kilkenny and Payne0

Sandgaards dream to create a high pressing team has gone well…1
-
This one stood out to me.
It’ll partly be our style of play, by sitting back we create space to counter attack and for JRS and CBT to run at the opposition.
It’ll also take into account Stockley’s appearances (20 league starts plus 4 sub), he was very ineffective at pressing the opposition.
I imagine it’ll look a lot better if we had a comparison of games where Leaburn started vs Stockley.
Going to be interesting to see if Holden sticks with 4-3-3 or moves towards 3-5-2 which we know he likes. We need to replace JRS goals and that might be easier with two strikers than finding a wide player who can match or better the 15 he scored.0 -

Definitely agree that Stockley really limited our pressing stats, especially when Leaburn is highlighted in the thread for his pressing actions0 -
The frightening thing about it is that of the bottom six teams in that metric, five made up the bottom five. Charlton were outlier.
Combined with the other charts showing how threatening both Blackett-Taylor and Rak-Sakyi were at the other end, it paints a pretty bleak picture regarding our outlook going forward without one or maybe both of them.3 -

From open play we’ve created 5.03 xG (2nd highest in the league) and conceded 3.65 xG (9th highest). That should be the makings of a decent team that would just need a slight defensive improvement to be up there. What is letting us down is set pieces, we’ve only created 0.41 xG from them (23rd) and have conceded 2.21 xG (most in the league). If you’re creating more chances than you’re conceding then you’re obviously going to do well, our set piece struggles are basically cancelling out the fact that we are a good team in open play1
-
We’ve also won the most high turnovers (51) of which 15 have led to a shot. And our PPDA (passes per defensive action) of 10.7 is 3rd highest. So we are one of the best in the league in terms of pressing and winning the ball high up4
-
Who is responsible for our set pieces, is it Hayes?
We have gone from one of the worst to THE WORST AT SET PIECES.
Holden agreed that this was a problem last season that they needed to work on.3 -
It appears that Barrow have created one big chance all season but succeeded in scoring 5 goals. Dead ball specialists?0
