Whenever I heard his voice, it brought a smile to my face. Not many I can say that about!

The verse "Don't dig there, dig it elsewhere, Your digging it round and it ought to be square, The shape of it's wrong, it's much too long, And you can't put hole where a hole don't belong helped inspire me to try writing comedic verse of my own, but my efforts are feeble in comparison to what this great man achieved.

He was a constant in an ever changing world, but sadly no more.

    RIP

National Treasure is a phrase that's bandied around too much, I think. Surely it applies to Bernard Cribbins if it applies to anyone though. RIP.

Lovely man - met him many years ago at some function - friendly, personable and happy

I didn’t know this, but for his National Service he volunteered to join the Parachute Regiment

RIP, loved so much of his work over the years. My daughter also liked him in Old Jack's Boat when she was younger.

Kind of bloke that you'd want as your Grandad.
  • A true legend who had a long and illustrious career. I loved his performances in The Railway Children and as Donna's dad in Doctor Who. I remember "Right Said Fred" from when I was a very young child. Loved that song - sums up British workmen even to this day! RIP Bernard.

It's heart-warming to see how much he was loved. I hope he realised how popular he was. What a wonderful narrator he was of 'The Wombles'. I remember him too in 'Carry on Spying'. I wonder why he didn't appear in more of that series.

I have checked and seen he was in 'Carry on Jack' too. It may be he was too similar to the likes of Kenneth Connor and Jim Dale for it to work. I bet he got on well with plenty of the cast, though - he seemed to be such a loveable man.

At least he won't have to dig his own hole.
