In my experience, people who say it's just weather are called 'gammons' by the people who say it's climate changeย
&
People who say it's climate change are called 'Snowflakes' by the people who say it's just summer weather.
Both sets of people are infuriatingly childish in my view1 -

The runway melted ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ either a design issue or bs. I wonder what the runways in the Middle East are made of as they donโt appear to melt.Rothko said:0 -
Described by spokesperson for Luton Airport as a surface defect, so would be rather a coincidence if it were not heat related. We don't normally get the temperatures that are seen in the Middle East, so don't build to those standards, therefore not a fair comparison.stop_shouting said:

It breaks back to where you are constructing - there probably hasnโt been a new RAF base in UK since WW2 - yes some runways will have been dug up and re -done, but only to cope with expected UK weather conditionsstop_shouting said:

To put it another way, I bet when we had RAF bases in places like Aden, they were built to Aden weather standards, not UK ones

I tried this also.ยME14addick said:I'm following the advice given to close all windows and doors, pull curtains and blinds etc and it does appear to be helpng so farย
I'm working from home today and the room faces south, has windows at either end and a patio door on the other wall, which is in the sun all day. Normally I would have a door open and the temperature often reaches over 30C when it is lower than that outside. Today with everything closed, a desk fan and tower fan on my back, the temperature is 29C. The outside thermometer which isn't in the sun yet is showing 35C.
Let some cooler air in at 05:30 then shut up everything at 06:00.ย Faithful Galileo thermometer still has two floats up - would expect all balls down by now - it's a triumph!ย

You sound certain that we donโt build to the standards in the Middle East. Iโm not so sure. The runways would be regularly checked and maintained and because of increased temperatures, any engineering firm worth their salt would be taking that into account in their retrospective design reviews. I imagine the MOD will be issuing a pre action protocol letter by the end of the week, on whatever engineering firm had responsible for this.ยME14addick said:
