Maybe the delay was caused by sandgaard not wanting to pay the compensation Swindon wanted.Valley11 said:
That’s a little bit concerning. But perhaps explains why there’s been a delay. Hopefully Garner still gets to pick the backroom staff he wants.Callumcafc said:Garner’s assistant has been appointed head coach at Swindon.3 -

Notice that O'Connell was Captain @ Rochdale as well, nice we're trying to bring leaders in13

All we need now is Cole Stockton, Nicky Cadden, Panutche Camara, Harry McKirdy and Joe Wollacott & we can 100 point club the league again.Come on Steve6

he can play as LCB and RCB btw, used primarily as the central defender in a back 3 last season but he can play with either foot from what I’ve seen. Is right footed though2 -
Couldn’t be any further away from a like for like Pearce replacement !sammy391 said:Sounds as if O’Connell is a like for like Pearce replacement6 -
Amazing what a few rumours can do to me. All 3 POTENTIAL Signings seem very positive. Good stuff1

I know what you mean. I remember when we signed a Reading cast off, a Sheffield Wednesday cast off, a free transfer from a League One team, a bloke who got relegated with Dagenham, a midfielder from Oldham and some work experience kid they brought in to help test the players' fitness. We had competition for about two of those players. Then when we signed some unwanted laughing stock released by Leicester I was about ready to pack it in. It was a joke, and then we...oh we won the league with a record points total. Never mind.cafc_harry said:
When we’re supposed to be aiming for automatics, playoffs at the least and our competition for signings are, at best, lower league 1 teams, yes I would call that bargain bin.ForeverAddickted said:
So another League One team, and a League Two team that are throwing money around like a League One teamcafc_harry said:Rochdale gutted to lose him but looks like the main teams linked with him till now were Forest Green and Stockport. Another bargain bin signing. Anyone else noticing a theme with Roland 2.0?
And yet he's a bargain bin signing
I truly hope to be proven wrong and I’ve bought my season ticket so I’ll be there to see it either way but I can see another poor season ahead.

I'd presume the comparison is because he was a captain, agree that a ball playing CB is entirely different from Pearce. Agree with FA that bringing in leaders is a good thing, Lavelle was also captain at Morecambe so we could have them both at the back.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:

Any Irish speaking people on here know if it’s pronounced Ewan or Owen0

Have to admit, I've never heard of Eoghan O'Connell & know nothing about him, but the reaction on here seems very positive, which is both unheard of & pleasing!!

Statistics, Videos & Analysis of Bolton Wanderers Football Club
Summer Transfer Targets: Centre Backs
Eoghan O’Connell
Age: 26 (13/08/1995)
Club: Rochdale AFC

Rochdale’s current club captain, O’Connell signed just a one year contract extension last summer after Dale were relegated from League One, so would be available on a free.
Has been Mr Dependable for Rochdale this season, starting all but one league game this season and despite being just 26, is the leader and experienced head of this fairly young Rochdale side. Despite his relative youth, O’Connell has already amassed 221 appearances in senior football, with 101 of those appearances coming in League One. The Irishman even has Champions League experience, playing 22 minutes for Celtic against Lionel Messi & co. at Camp Nou in 2016.
O’Connell would add aerial ability to the backline – ranking 9th out of L1 CBs for ‘Aerial Duel Win %’ – as well as defensive solidity, also scoring well in interceptions and shots blocked per 90.

Crucially though, the 26 year old would be comfortable with the demands placed upon him in Wanderer’s passing system. O’Connell plays the 6th most passes per 90 out of all L1 CBs and ranks 14th for pass accuracy with 83.1%. While not possessing the same top-end speed as Santos, O’Connell is at least as adept at either driving upfield with the ball or pinging a long pass out to a wing back in space.
The clips of O’Connell below from Rochdale’s game against Carlisle back in March show his ability on the ball – a game in which he played 93 passes, finding a teammate with 88% of them.
His goal against against Hartlepool last weekend wasn’t bad either…

Sounds like he'll fit Garner's system like a glove. Nice start to the Summer.7

Reading - Championship
Wednesday - L1
Bournemouth - L1 playoffs
Dagenham - star player in a relegated L1 team
Oldham - L1
I'm not knocking O'Connell or any Swindon players we might sign, but there's a difference between the Powell signings and the L2 players that we seem to be linked with at the moment.1 -
No more tonight...

Get in!!! That's a very good 1st signing!3
