  • This match is a perfect example of why Jackson won’t take us anywhere next season.
Why? It’s a mid table squad playing like one.
  • Good first half hour, should have been 2-0 up.

Gilbey forgets to engage brain and the defence slow to close down ..... and suddenly we're losing.

Now all the knives are coming out.

  • Watching the highlights backs we were on too for 30 minutes, desperately lacking the final ball. The one time we did get a good ball in Stockley hits the bar from his thigh. And then Gilbey with a brain dead moment.

    So frustrating.

This match also illustrating why, whatever the stats say, there’s a lack of confidence that this front pair can take us where we want to be. Hold up play has been very poor and three chances within 12 yards of goals wasted.
Stockley is an absolute donkey at times
    At all times.
Barely won a ball and his control is non-existent.
Add the useless Washington to the mix and you can see why we are where we are.
No invention up front at all other than CBT.

    I doubt Morgan's being scapegoated, @Leuth

We know Albie is a decent dead ball specialist and capable of threading a killer ball.

But .... there are big holes in his game, parts of his job where he's lacking, it's often been pointed out in frustration - it's a team game don't forget and if Morgan is out of position or not tracking back, then it causes big problems to the gameplan, or even goals conceded as a direct or indirect consequence.

Anyway, back to more important matters, are you in IKEA yet?

I'm watching a game where the midfield allowed an opposition player all the time in the world to score, and where Gilbey got 2 bookings in the first half for lazy shirt pulls.

Can't win games if you don't score goals

That still doesn't make Morgan a better player. If it did, he'd have been playing today.

Don't worry, all will be alright once we get our strikers back.

Thanks Michael Owen for that insight.
  • Only 6 teams to have scored less goals than us all season, and 3 of those are in the bottom 4.

    There is your answer.
  • Chairs are surprisingly cheap, aren't they?

Oh, right. I'd best take your word for it then.

  • I'm basically only still watching at this point so I can applaud JFC when he comes on.

It’s very much our ability on the ball which I am talking about, though also again could point how that gap between our right wing back and right centre back has been exploited.

0 shots on goal, and the only way we were  trying to break a team sitting 11 back was to try and pass it to CBT and hope that one of his runs penetrates through - which to me shows a lack of imagination and poor coaching.

It’s Jackson who has set up our midfield to have Dobson sitting deep and then for Fraser and Gilbey to peel wide which means we barely have an option in the middle. We spent most of that half when we had the ball with Fraser, Washington, CBT and Purrington all stuck down their left hand side which they found easier to defend and break against.

Yeah we had some half chances, but that’s always going to happen when a team sit so deep.

Look how well another mid table team, Lincoln, move the ball and tell me why we can never do that when we get into the final third. And it happens week in week out, guess what, against other mid table teams.

  • Stockley has been shocking, even at things he is meant to be good at. He doesn't look fit.

Gilbey,  wtf! I am admittedly not a fan but...

Goal conceded is typical type of goal we concede.

    Which one

To add to this look how much more inventive  Gateshead and Hartlepool were on the ball in the final third, and it weren’t like we had a weak team out for them fixtures.
  • Have we had our half decent 20 minutes yet or just chucked the towel ?

Perhaps he's not? And that's a big reason behind his form at present?

  • At least the pre match show had a few laughs. Charlotte “so Peter, what’s it like coming back to the Valley”. Shirtliffe “I never played here Charlotte but it looks very nice”.
I like when he said something to the effect of "it wasn't clear how lads from the north would settle."

It's like, three hours on the train. I know I come from a much larger country but you're coming from Yorkshire not Yugoslavia.
  • Peter shirtliff
    Which one
One Peter Shirtliff..there's only one Peter Shirtliff..... B)
  • Actually if I can pause from casting my critical eye over second-hand tables, it's just occurred to me that a certain someone won't be playing at Wimbledon, which I have a ticket for. Result

JJ said he is not at his best and will not be until next season

He's looked rusty since he came back from injury. He's never the most graceful player but he's not usually as bad as he's been.
