For multiple millions of pounds. There must be loads of them.........0 -
I understand fans frustration's about the loan back deal, I wonder how that will affect the dressing room eg: mason coming back to the club earning 10k a week compared to 1k a week before for example.
I would take a punt on Kanu at this point. We will not go up this year and I think we have enough about us to stay up with Stockley,Aneke,Washington and Kanu0 -

AFKABartram said:Right peed me off this one. Lookman right from the start you could tell had that little bit extra. Burstow may well go on to, but he really hasn’t shown anything like that so far. His overall play has looked like he’s not even ready for League One yet.Chelsea just taking a massive punt that the loan fees they get for him over the next four years and a potential Championship / lower Prem sale in a few years time will make the whole project profitable.3

Washington for him to miss the 10 chances he's given on a plate?0 -

The two CB I couldn't tell apart as I'm sure it was the one camera and no close ups but both Deji and Bakrin were raw but talented.
Mason goal was excellent in that game and showed good composure against Birmingham.

If Burstow has gone, it shows Thomas is a selling owner and a player barely out of the youth team is calling the shots. A good finish to the season would possibly put another £2,3,5m on his price tag. No idea what he's worth now but if Prem clubs can spend £20-30m on a young player from Championship, what is a League One starlet worth. Not saying he's Bellingham but Bellingham was £30m 2 seasons ago, so would now be £50m plus.
This is a Premiership club coming calling ON DEADLINE DAY FFS. Surely it tells us all we ever needed to know. They scout everywhere for the best prospects. That's all Burstow is right now, but if we'd kept him for another year, he may have got us up and we may have been in the Championship and asking double what he's worth now.
Thomas said he wants to build the team around its youngsters. We'll selling the buggers and buying lower league hand-me-downs isn't going to get us anywhere, unless we uncover half a dozen ala Brentford, and sell them for £10m+ each.

Look at transfermarkt for their u23 and u18 transfers in. There's at least 2 or 3 players a season at each level they pillage from lower leagues, seemingly for little compensation.1 -
Absolutely pointless getting him back on loan.4

The lad has scored two goals in League One.
You'd hope TS & JJ etc can see a very talented 18 year old kid who's ceiling will be higher than L1, and who a few PL view the same way is worth significantly more than those type of players.
£1-1.5m for example should not be acceptable. I don't think £3m is at all unrealistic.
£6m yeah, probably.
Probably enough to fund the fees we paid in this window. And I'd rather have Chuks than Burstow. But ideally, we'd have them both.0 -
It really doesn’t matter at all…0

kid turns up tomorrow £10k a week better off than he was today. It’s head turning and I can’t see how that would benefit our club and the atmosphere in the group.Whole thing stinks. Can’t believe a club can just hoover up young players so easily.

Gravesend_Addick said:I don't know the fee of course, but I'd like to think it's at least say £3 million+. That will seriously aid a squad rebuild in the summer AND we get to keep the player for the rest of this season.
I don't see how anyone could think this is a bad thing
The story of a young player been hoovered up by a bigger club is almost as old as football itself. We have signed plenty or younger players from clubs below us and I'm sure it is a policy we will pursue in the future. Nobody seems to up in arms when we do that and Chelsea are just doing the same to us as we do to Staines Town etc.
Sure it would have been nice to see Burstow for another year or so but you can't pick and choose when clubs become interested and the second you have a club like Chelsea express interest you can guarantee the player's head will be turned and you essentially go into damage limitation mode. How much can you get for the player, who can you replace him with (Or in this case can you keep him for half a season like it seems we are). Fulham are in exactly the same position tonight with their young kad Carvalho going to Liverpool, its irrelevant how much ambition you have as a club when the big boys come calling.
Can you imagine if we'd turned down Chelsea's bids and he then went on to not score another goal for us this season? Many would have been criticising the club for not taking the money when it was on the table. The club has opportunity to recoup a lot of what has been spent this season and it has always been clear that TS wants to run the club in a sustainable way as possible. I don't think that means that he wants to break even and I think he has a good track record so far of putting his money where his mouth is, but he wants to minimise his losses as much as he can.
Burstow is doing what any young lad would do in his position. The idea he would turn Chelsea down is laughable, he has an opportunity to sign for a Premier league club and all the opportunities that will bring, both in terms of his development and also financially.
People forget sometimes a footballers career is short, Matty Longstaff the young lad from Newcastle was being linked with AC Milan a couple of years ago. He now looks to be on his way to Mansfield Town. Almost all of us would do the same in Burstow's position as would 99% of all footballers.
He has potential to be a top player and let's hope he goes on achieve great things. It is really frustrating losing top talent but it shows the academy is working, and whether we like the model or not it definitely helps attract new talent into the academy when young lads can see other young lads get big moves.21 - Sponsored links:

There will be plenty of banter and leg pulling, of course.
As long as he takes it in good spirit and no Billy BigBollox stuff.4 -

Of course they recruit dozens with different MOs but this isn't as a routine as people are suggesting.0 -
If Burstow is being loaned back then one from Lee, Leko, Famewo, Castillo and John would have to be omitted from each matchday squad. Chances are that one of them will be injured anyway!0

I don't do Valley Gold but I have two brothers who pay their money.
Surely it's pointless as if anyone plays a couple of good games in the first team they are off. Most youth team players just leave because their not good enough and the average stay at Cafc.
So our best young talent leaves after a dozen games and this pays for the journeymen players that we purchase.
I hate Chelsea. They give Mason a six week trial in 2020 and consider he isn't Good enough. He comes to Cafc via Maidstone.
Now Mason scores again Fleetwood and Crewe and they want him.6 -

So we could ask all we wanted at the end of next season but it'd be set by tribunal?0 -
People on here saying football stinks, but we literally pinched him off Maidstone in 2020. This is the football food chain. We are where we are, get used to it.44
