New Zealand's Devon Conway will miss Sunday's showpiece against Australia at the T20 World Cup after breaking his hand punching his own bat.
He picked up the injury when hitting his bat in frustration after being dismissed in the Black Caps' semi-final win over England on Wednesday.
Scans have revealed the 30-year-old broke his fifth metacarpal in his right hand.

I think the Darwin Awards need a new category.

It can be argued that the two best teams got knocked out in the semis because they lost the toss. It is a big issue with the format that chasing teams take more risks than they would in the first innings if they have a challenging total to chase. Not sure what the answer is though.

First team has10 overs, the 2nd team has 20 overs, then first team has another 10 overs

Definitely think this is a good idea.

I said during the IPL when it was obvious that the toss was having such a major influence that this could end up deciding the WC. The teams that have won batting first have been, generally speaking, those that are infinitely superior to their opposition so it doesn't matter that they are put in. Little has been made of it in the WC by both Sky and the in house production team but then who wants to undermine the competition by raising this as an issue especially when they've paid so much to cover it? It also sounds like sour grapes when teams and supporters moan about losing the game because of the toss when it isn't raised as a concern before the games.

I came up with the same idea. Slight advantage to batting 20 overs in one go re momentum etc may helps counter the advantage of batting last and knowing what their target is.

Would be interesting to see how the odds change after the toss and before play starts

It's been an annoying theme throughout this competition.
I hope we don't see it's like again.

I'm willing New Zealand to hit a boundary every ball.
But Hazelwoods 1st three overs have been absolutely spot on.

That drop brought me joy at least.
  • Williamson is back in my World XI. Extremely rash of me to take him out in the first place and I can but apologise to him.

Aussies making pretty short work of this. Need a couple of wickets.

Another one won at the toss it looks like.

With quite a few of our first team missing, taking NZ to the 19th over doesn’t look like the worst loss now.

Well the timing of the games has meant I have watched 90% of the tournament- half watched in many cases. It’s been like Groundhog Day - win the toss, bat second, win. Everything blurs into a mash of slogs, fireworks and the unremitting awfulness of the PA announcers. I am so done with T20 & every form of franchise crap - it’s boring. To think they are throwing red ball cricket under the bus for this never ending  forced shite is horrific.
  • Got to feel sorry for NZ. Bridesmaids in all three formats now.
