Hatrick of wickets near the end for Sri Lanka but still beaten by South Africa.

England won toss and fielding first and after 6.1 overs Australia are 21-4!

Warner, Smith, Maxwell and Stoinis all gone.

    54-5 after 13.2 overs
  • There seems to be something wrong with my radio. It's telling me Australia are five down for more or less nothing.

    lucky 8 for Malan
    Indeed
  • Just got back from the stadium, very good performance although Mills was fairly expensive.

Some absolutely incredible shots from Buttler, and watching it live and being that close to it all just makes you appreciate how good these guys are. They have less than a second to react to a ball from someone like Starc and they're smashing it 90+ metres into the upper tier. Very pleasing seeing Aussie fans leaving the ground when we were only in our 10th over.

Brilliant day when you also factor in the Charlton result.

Glad you enjoyed the occasion and got to witness it at first hand.

The batsman actually less than half a second at 90mph to react which is why the ball has to be read from the hand. It's also the reason why, when someone like Mills, for example, bowls a back of the hand slow ball but with the same arm speed as he has for his faster ball, it is impossible to adjust your shot. On pitches like this you have to set yourself for the slower ball but be prepared for it being the quicker one!

Buttler is averaging 54 opening the batting for England in t20is. Think it’s time for humble pie from those who thought it would be a disaster.

I don't think anyone said that it would be a "disaster". I certainly felt that he would be better utilised as a finisher but that was way before I knew, having seen the IPL being played here, we do need to make the most of the PP because that is the best chance of securing a win.

That said, should we be forced to bat first and lose Buttler early then others will need to step up especially if Roy goes in the PP too. The Buttler/Roy combo has been responsible for 207 of our runs to date with the rest of the squad amassing only 80 runs between them and Morgan/Moeen/Livingstone have just 11 in total to their name such has the success of our openers been.

Afghanistan should beat Namibia today but I still don't understand why they keep insisting on batting first. The game against Pakistan was sufficiently close to believe that they might have won had they given Mujeeb and Rashid Khan the opportunity to bowl first

I'm with you on this. Always knew Buttler would be an excellent opener but felt that  we had just as good options to open and no one as good as him at finishing. The type of games that we are getting this tournament as a result of these pitches have ment a finisher isn't such a key role (or hasn't been yet). This was also before Livingstone grabbed that spot and made it his own.

I still think in my strongest team in English conditions I'd have him finishing. But wouldn't change it for this tournament.
