Post-match Thread: Charlton Athletic v Bolton Wanderers | Tuesday 28th September 2021

Five changes and we started brightly, taking the lead through a Davison goal. I thought Clare, Leko and Davison’s work rate separated us. We held our shape when they had the ball and moved quickly into attack down the wings when we had the opportunity. We looked in control and Bolton looked weak to my eyes, right up until we gifted them an equaliser from a moment of individual quality. It was almost a replay of the weekend, with the forward turning inside on Matthews and releasing a shot from twenty yards. We went into the break deflated.

In the second half we tried to find another gear. But the wheels fell off as legs tired on about seventy minutes. And they fell off spectacularly. Somehow, we conspired to make a hapless Bolton look rampant.

It was an ugly loss and I don’t know where we go from here.

Charlton 1 Bolton 4

Over to you.

I’m naturally optimistic and I saw no point in sacking a manager this soon … but do you know what? … he has lost the dressing room and lost the fans … just walk away Nigel, you are destroying us

  • Rubbish, I don't see any way back for NA.
  • I've been an advocate for giving Adkins time but there's no defence now.

If he's still in charge Saturday I'll be amazed.   Would like to see Jacko given a decent run of games
  • My worry is a new manager cannot do anything different. What can be done?
  • 1 win in 10 is unacceptable. Looked excellent at times in the first half and then crumbled in the second. Something is very wrong there

I like Deano, he doesn't toe the party line as much as most, and has been very critical of everyone.
  • I dont like seeing likeable chaps like Nige losing his job but it's time to go. It's not going to change now. This cant continue.
  • Goodbye Nigel.

On a personal note, my condolences to the 58 smart arses on here who LOLd me when I called out his appointment as a joke on day one.

Seems a lot of folks are taken in by a perma-tan, smooth patter and a grin.

    Not me though.

Curbs and Deano talking a lot of sense. They both see the failings in Adkins.

Adkins has to go but this squad isn't as good as some people seem to think. Think it will be tough for whoever has the job.

Yes a shambles and as bad as I have ever known. Certainly our worst league position as far as I can recall in supporting Charlton for over 50 years. Big squad of poorish players. Maybe overreacting but it does start to feel like a relegation season. Over to Thomas to make some executive decisions.

My word for word conversation to @cabbles at half time.

‘ I have not been concerned about relegation until that final 5 mins between Bolton scoring and half time. The second they scored our confidence completely disappeared and we were looked hopeless’.

Since whenever I watched Charlton we’ve had one player who would get us out of trouble our talisman. We are seriously lacking one and I fear Davidson (Forest Green loan player last season) will be given that responsibility.

We are 100% in a relegation battle. Adkins must go tonight. It’s embarrassing and everyone should be ashamed. 1 win in 10 is pathetic and rightfully deserves to be know as the worst Charlton team ever.

"Best XI" is the new cliche, replacing "Go back to 4-4-2" and "Get stuck in" and "Hard work," etc.
  • After 30 minutes, I thought we were gonna absolutely stuff 'em.

Erm... didn't quite turn out that way.

What have they said out of interest ?
  • Time to stop pretending we are in with a chance of reaching the top 6.

We are in a real relegation scrap and relegation to the old 4th Division in the club's history is a real prospect.

I fear things are going to get worse before they get better.

Compare that first half hour with the final half hour. Chalk and cheese. So many players far too unfit. Confidence so fragile. Total capitulation. Our recruitment was poor but with the squad we've got we really ought to be more competitive than this. We are a pushover and it's a disgrace.
