Yes we have done that a few times, but I put that down to players confidence. I don't think Adkins is instructing them to do it. Having never played football at any decent level I'm pretty sure the 'easy pass' we see from the stands isn't as 'easy' as it looks when you're with the ball on the pitch.1 -

I didn’t boo and never have but we are in the league 1 relegation zone, I can see why people do.
my issue with the covered end, is that every song is sung so fast. Listen to forest sing their version of mull of kintyre, slow and so much better than our rushed version. It’s sung so quickly that everyone in the north stand is out of breathe at the end of it.12 -
“Stand up if you still believe” was nice. Although I didn’t, because I don’t.7

I can’t understand paying £££s to watch/support a team and booing or chanting derogatory stuff during the game.
At the end maybe. But do the morons around the drum believe abusive chants and songs are motivating? If they do they should be told to fuck off and support Millwall.
If that makes sense0 -

much better 2nd half yesterday but the frustration is there for all to see.1 -
I said this after the Gillingham game, absolutely hate it. Nothing wrong with a bit of self deprecating humour but there’s a time and a place and it has to be in very small doses, not every time you go behind or don’t win.
You don't shit on your own club.37 -
Like I said, who is it helping? Being the 12th man for the opposition after 5 minutes is not loyal support. It's the opposite of it.
I took two 10 year old boys yesterday and they loved every minute of it. Finally got them to the stage where they find it thrilling rather than a bit of a fun day out with the old man. They can't wait to go again, but after going to The Valley since 1967 I find myself reluctant to go because of our idiot fans. That's why I often go to non-league football.
The bile that's coming out of people's mouths - young and old - is awful. I know we go to football partly to let off steam, but this is like collective mental illness. 1-0 down and there's a group tantrum. I dread to think what would happen if we'd lost.
Absolutely sick of it.24 -
I'd always remember the " always look on the bright side of life" sung as we got relegated by Tottenham.3

We could do with a raucous crowd Tuesday night, giving it big time to Bolton, not our players!1

I wrote this to start a new thread, without realising a thred already existed.
Throughout our history the Covered End singing and chanting has driven teams on, through good times and bad. This season there seems to be an undercurrent of the fans at that end of the ground to turn on the team and the management at the earliest opportunity. I understand that fans pay their money and in theory they have the right to show their discontent when the team is playing poorly, but all it does is put more pressure on the players. Surely our job as fans is to support the team even when in our hearts we know they are playing badly. Do you think that chanting "We're fucking shit", " You're not fit to wear the shirt", "Sacked in the morning", etc, will motivate any team. My gut feeling is that players on the field will think that I can't make a mistake, so play within themselves, rather than be ambitious and try something extraordinary, to avoid fans starting to pick on them.
Some people state that Thomas put that on himself with his preseason quotes of "We're going to blow this league out of the water" etc, but he is the owner, not the team.
I sit in the Alan Curbishley stand, and it is the noise from the Covered End that actually animate the fans in that stand, which ends up with more sound around the ground.
There must be many fans in the Covered End who don't agree with this negative chanting, amongst them must be leaders who can moderate the negative vibes.
I'm also aware that the small amount of booing for Taking the Knee, comes from the Covered End, where the rest of the ground applauses. A question for those like minded people in that end, is it the same people who are booing taking the knee the same people who are starting the negative chanting.
I just don't get it, support the team, through thick and thin (lots of thin at the moment!) If you're unhappy, discuss with your mates, moan in the pub, keep quiet when the defense allows a player to walk through them and then cheer them on when the ball returns to the centre spot.
I'm looking for long standing members of the Covered End to try to moderate the negative chanting for the sake of the team, and would like to hear from such people how they feel when the chanting starts.19 -
ps, totally agree with you Vincenzo0

I could understand if the "crowd" turned on Saturday but it had already turned by the Wigan game. Supprising that it was that quick.2

Crowds reflect what's happening on the pitch.
This is the worst season in history so far in terms of league position.3 -
I thought the ‘not fit to wear the shirt’ earlier in the season after one of the away matches was way OTT. Inappropriate and just far, far too soon. The booing is embarrassing, and just helps the other team.People just want instant gratification these days. If a player has a rocky patch, get rid, if a manager has a rocky patch, sack him. It’s sad. That’s not to say things are going well, they’re clearly not. But there are signs of improvement and I’m hoping lessons are being learned.24

It will be interesting to see what the crowd is on tuesday night. I think quite a few won't bother.0

I was amazed how empty the East Stand looked, I reckon you could have got all the fans into 2 x blocks.0

I sit in the lower covered end and most people don’t boo etc

We need to admit we have a growing number of the righteous indignation crew in our fanbase. They enjoy being outraged more than supporting the club. They would never admit it but subconsciously they would rather we lose so they can yell and scream than for us to win. You even see it on this forum with the number of posters who are quick to complain about the club but never post a thing when we are doing well. For example, the number of posters who are so quick to rip an imperfect inexperienced owner just one year out who saved us from administration and clearly is passionate about the club - the exact things we said we were looking for - the antithesis of RD - but now that is not good enough.
However, I don’t think this is unique to Charlton. It is happening with many clubs and also outside of sport whether it be politics, music, movies (ie read some Star Wars or marvel fan forums and it is even worse). I have no clue what is driving it; social media information overload behind the veil of anonymity, pent up anger from the pandemic and people wanting release that in a group setting, entitled millennials - who knows. I am just sick of it personally. That’s why I spend time watching entertainment, football etc around like minded people who I know who enjoy the experience without the anger.10 -
It’s nothing to do with the fans that the players aren’t good enough. It’s the players and the management’s fault, no-one else’s.3

What I don't want to see is us sinking further into the mire. Either way, it won't be boring.
I'll be there for sure.
