A number of changes to the starting lineup failed to achieve the desired outcome as we got off to a slow start. We don’t know our best eleven. Portsmouth looked head and shoulders above us at times, but they won’t be happy with their ability to see the game out. When we made changes at halftime, they couldn’t play the ball out from the keeper as well as they had been. That changed things for us.

We came from behind twice, but didn’t have enough to pull out the winner.

Clare scored with nigh on his first touch for the first equaliser, and Davison did well to finish as Blackett-Taylor terrorised their right back to put him through in the six-yard box.

We looked clumsy and erratic in possession at times, particularly at the back, but we gave ourselves a lifeline or two with great attacking play from Lee and Gilbey, Blackett-Taylor and Leko.

We’re not good enough and as time goes on, it looks less and less likely we’ll stumble on a formation that will turn our fortunes around. It’s not as bad as it looks, but it’s not much better, IMO.

Over to you.

Not happy with the league position but we've done by the ref here tbh.

I usually madly defend players but this season it's different. This season I come to bury them. And today I announce Harry Arter officially Finished. Gone. Nada.

  • changes nothing - awful first half, Clare changed the game when he came on

Soare also had a solid game as did Leko

Pearce is finished, so is Watson

    what’s happened to stockley?

Adkins out (give it to Jacko)

Stockley gets nothing from the refs, in fact, his physicality almost universally goes against him. Baiting the referee by going at Stockley must be the first thing in the opposition’s playbook. It’s just not working for him.

Better 2nd half…Pearce scares the shit out of me in possession……still not good enough but I agree with Adkins too many late signings and they are not fit

Don't know who was in it at the moment, cos of the f****** buffering and missing subs, but reckon that finishing 11 should be starting Tuesday imo
  • Adkins should have brought Blackett-Taylor a lot sooner . Watson isn't fit enough for this level of football  , but I thought Pearce was excellent today .

A draw isn't a bad result against a fellow 'promotion contender.' (Haha). Two draws hopefully means we've arrested this downturn.

But once again we're carved open so easily, and too much time on the ball for the opposition. And yet we're pressed off the ball when we have it. It's the same every game.

Some credit to Adkins for nullifying them a bit better in the second half, but they still had a lot of space down the wings and created chances.

I'm so disappointed that it's a brand new season and we're starting games with the likes of Pearce, Watson and Matthews. All of whom nearly cost us today, and one of whom did.

Stockley has done nothing this season to deserve a starting place in this team. Surely it has to go to Davison now. Let Jaden earn his place back.
  • Game we should of won. Portsmouth are turd and we let them into the game.

What I take away from it...Stockley can't play without a partner and CBT needs to start when fit along with Davison.

If its getting there then it's taking too long

By the way, have we always played Theme For Great Cities over the PA at full time? Banger
  • Better spirit 2nd half and better pllayers last 10 minutes But man - not just us, this whole league 1 thing is an alternative to employment.

A game of two halves and a point a piece probably a fair result on reflection.

Portsmouth dominated the first half but we did have two or three shots on target that their keeper did well to save.

Almost a complete reversal in the second half with the quick equaliser coming through Clare. Would’ve been the perfect time to make a number of our next chances count and the referee completely robbed us of a 1v1 about ninety seconds before they retook the lead.

Once CBT and Davison were introduced, Portsmouth didn’t know how to handle them, especially the former. He must start the next game.

Yes Portsmouth had a couple of extra golden chances that were of our own making (Pearce tried to gift his former club multiple times) but equally their keeper made good saves at crucial moments too.
  • Without our start to the season a 2 - 2 draw against Portsmouth would be decent.

However, the fact we are are in the relegation zone and look all at sea almost every turn over of play just adds to our woes.

CBT should have come on 5-10 minutes earlier. He scares defenders when running right at them. But he needed a bit more time to force another chance or two. I don’t think he should always start, but he should have the final 25-30 when it’s tight or we need something.

Agree with the first point - actually thought the opposite on the second!
  • 2 unbeaten.

    Things are looking up.

  • Looking at our 2 in the midfield engine room in our last 3 games

    Cheltenham - Arter and Dobson
    Gillingham - Watson and Morgan
    Pompey - Watson and Arter/Clare

That's 5 different players for the 2 positions in 3 games. That's not rotation, that's a manager desperately trying to find the right combination and failing

  • The ref calling back the play when gilbey was through at 1-1 was a game changer.

Still turgid and Adkins still hasn’t got a clue. Needs to go, bye nige, thanks for the walks

Stockley seems quite a negative influence on his teammates

Draw completely papers over the cracks but I’ll take what we can get in our current position. I’ve been sympathetic towards Adkins because I think he’s been done over by the way we handled the summer transfer window but he has to go for me. To come out once again and look like a team full of strangers is the managers fault and it’s happening every game. Portsmouth are bang average and were on such bad form that even we had won more recently than them. I just don’t see things improving as the problems are too severe

I enjoyed the game and we showed spirit to come back twice but the substitutions came far too late and let’s face it , if that donkey they had up front didn’t have two left feet we would have been dead and buried long ago .

1 win from 9 games . Not good enough .

Watson did have a very decent game at the Jills last Tuesday, especially 1st half.

But he's played 3 consecutive games each of 90 minutes plus  - it's a big ask of a 36 year old midfielder.
He hasn't got the engine and sharpness for it at the intensity required for 3 games a week.

Surely he has to be rested this Tuesday?

First half had me very worried. Couldn't get out of our half most of the time. But the second half we were better and should have won it. Referee made a huge mistake not playing advantage when Gilbey was through on goal.

We made many changes, probably because many players aren't fit yet. Arter rightly subbed at half time, he was very poor. Adkins should have taken Stockley off earlier. Hasn't done a single thing right today and is contantly moaning and pointing at his team mates. Not the leader this team needs. I get Jason Pearce is not an ideal first choice CB, not good enough any more, but at least he is a true leader. Clare brought us much needed energy in the middle, but is not a very good player.

Defensively poor again today (Matthews, Pearce, Souare need to sort themselves out ASAP) but we finally looked like we have some attacking drive in our locker with Gilbey, Lee, Clare and CBT willing to run with the ball at their feet. Which was pleasing to see.

Brilliant! I always wondered what that music was

They played it last season - you could hear it in the background during Charlton TV - and I asked what the tune was, but nobody replied.

It's odd. There's periods in the game where we actually do show signs of being a decent team but never for long enough to be comfortable.
