  • Ged and Steve, who will take the blame for the rubbish signings we made, and who will get the credit for the good ones  ;)

Off to watch a Charlton eleven at Erith and Belvedere in the London Senior cup that evening. Roddy’s son might be playing

Seems odd to have to make a choice as a supporter whether to go and watch the team play or attend an event about the club. I will be at Park View Road

  • Surprised this event has been sanctioned by the club to take place before the team has fully integrated and starts to produce acceptable results on the pitch.
Fan's concerns regarding this summer's recruitment policy, the roles and responsibilities of the four members of the recruitment team and how effectively it has worked clearly need addressing.  If only to reduce the amount of flack on CL and other social media.
But whilst openness is positive, another poor result at the weekend, following on from Saturday's debacle, is likely to result in a PR disaster.
Press releases and video clips may have been a 'safer' approach before letting concerned fans loose on Zoom...

Fans aren't let loose on Zoom.
They are all pretty much muted apart from the committee, with fans questions put by the committee.
  • A recent article on the official site gave us fans some interesting insight into our transfer strategy. Ged Roddy talked about our intended playing style. Can you tell us more about what that style is?

And when should can we realistically expect to see signs of it in the first team?

Was that style imposed on the new manager, when the recruitment was done was Bowyer left?

How much say over recruitment does the manager have?

If it goes all Pete tong, is it because the manager hasnt been given the tools or because he hasn't used them well enough?

Who's neck is on the block the manager or the recruitment team?

Appreciate there is a level of control on zoom, but it could still lead to a PR meltdown in the background if attendees don't agree with the questions being asked or don't accept the answers being given!  Whether on zoom or elsewhere on social media.
Personally I would have used the recent release on the OS to explain the system used during the window, which rightly addressed concerns raised on the process, roles and responsibilities raised continually during much of the window, once the first coach party of new players failed to arrive before the start of the season.
I would then follow this up with a zoom call later in the autumn (November) when the squad had had sufficient time to gel and results were (hopefully) positive.
If the zoom meeting had gone ahead as planned this Thursday I can only imagine that Ged and Steve would have been subject to a very rough ride.
If we lose on Saturday and the strategy is poor, the atmosphere on the call a week later would be even more toxic.
PR, like a game plan, requires tactics!

Thanks. I have submitted two. One for each participant.
  • Unless we play well and beat Gillingham on Tuesday, I can see this session being pretty brutal. Even if the questions actually asked to the guests are "moderated", we will be able to see all the questions posed and the comments...
  • Compared to most such sessions, I can see this being pretty tetchy, if not hostile, and don't envy the CAST individuals trying to moderate some of the comments and questions. Or indeed Ged and Steve, as this won't be the usual friendly and fun occasion such Q&As normally are. I imagine a few questions along these lines...

Q1 Why was the recruitment so late?
Q2 Did the budget change as a result of the poor start to the season?
Q3 Are you happy with the quality of player brought in at the start of the window (e.g. Dobson and Clare who are hardly playing now)?
Q4 Are you disappointed that three of of our biggest recent player commitments, Stockley, Kirk and DJ, didn't start on Tuesday?
Q5 Why didn't we sign a LB earlier in the window, other than Jacob Roddy?
