He did but sounds like Burton would move him RB during games.

How old was Clare when he left us?
    I think I read he was 17.

That would make sense, I don't remember him being a pro and he signed for the massive 2 years later.  Would have ment he was at the Nike Academy for about the same length of time as Dijksteel and friend of this thread Jorge Grant.

Liked his ability to cover the ground and pop up all over, decent on the ball as his run to earn us the freekick showed.  Also liked him winding up Bannan.

A bit anonymous in the first half but he really played well in the second. Took up good positions to accept the ball, made dangerous runs into their penalty area, slotted some good passes through the lines, pacey and mobile. Not sure about his tackling and defensive capabilities but overall a good acquisition.
  • Why did he leave the academy?  Did we let him go or did his dream move to a different club?

We released him as he was too small is the message I got from this:

Seems he did that and then some.

I thought he looked alright. Not terrible by any means, not brilliant.

50/50 chance he will turn out to be either a Keith Jones, or a Brendan O Connell. If we get the players in we need I suspect he may be a 15-20 appearances a season kind of player.

As others have mentioned, didn’t really notice him in the first half. Thought he came alive in the second and was very busy. Looking forward to seeing him (and Dobson) progress once they settle in with a decent run of games.

He was better than I thought he would be...only seen him in one friendly and don't really remember seeing him much before that for previous clubs.
What was going on with him and Bannan? He seemed to be laughing him off but Bannan kept yapping away for a few minutes.

I thought both Clare and Dobson were fine, but unexceptional yesterday. A definite increase in energy over last season, but time will tell as to the quality they deliver
  • Decent prospect. Hopefully can get one up on his old team next weekend.

Clare is ex-SWFC (2016-2018) and would've been there at the same time as Bannan, probably added a little bit of edge. There was that one specific moment where Clare put a late challenge in after the ball had gone. Ref didn't pick up on it. Bannan lashed out and kicked his heels on the way past. Clare went to ground and the ref showed Bannan a yellow card for it. Clare 1-0 Bannan.

In his interview with Louis for Charlton Live he talks about growing up and watching the players come out of the tunnel to RRR.

Having a dig at Sandgaard already, he'll be sold next week  ;)

Nice to hear he's got a bit of CAFC in his blood. An encouraging debut with hopefully more to come. Late on he made an exceptional run into the box but sadly the cross never reached him for a deserved tap in.

Not really. His father works for the Guardian Newspaper.

I want to see goals from him. He does give energy and it was something we needed at times last season, but we need goals from midfield this season. Of course you can't judge that on one game, but his record suggests that it is a big ask. Still early days though.

3 in 28 and 4 in 26 in the league with Hearts isn’t the worst record, and we don’t know the roles he played in. We seem to be giving him freedom to get forward, I’m expecting him to get a decent return in goals and assists.

Here’s the video of his goals at Hearts. There’s a few good finishes in there and some penalties. He wouldn’t be a penalty taker if he had no shooting technique or composure in front of goal.
