Person from China randomly pops up to get the best time in the 100m.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Not randomly at all. He's been famous for some years. I even mistakenly thought this was his second time into the final...
Ranked 14th best sprinter in the world this season.

At 31 years old runs his fastest ever time by a 0.1 gap (big gap in sprinting).

    He's suspicious.

Takes a year off before the Olympics so I wonder if he was tested in 2020.
Linford Christie won the olympics aged 32 and set personal best at 33

The man that was banned for drugs?

He failed tests throughout his career.

Never really watched the olympics before, always thought they would be pretty boring. 2012 I was lucky enough to be working at hyde park in an Olympics event around the athletes (BT London Live) so that passed me by purely because I was in the heart of it if that makes sense.

I tuned in today for the first time and haven't been able to switch off. I didn't realise how quickly it would switch between different sports and how little time would be "filler." You really don't need to be interested in the individual sports to get excited.

Especially when the Portuguese triple jumper looks like that, my lord.

She’s basically in the sand after her hop & skip ffs. No one else had a chance.

Wonder if that's ever happened before.

Think they wanted it all wrapped up before the 100m final.

what an afternoon of athletics. the women's triple jump and men's high jump will go down as 2 of the great moments in the sport. and we've yet to have the showpiece 100m final

BBC commentator: She's won gold, now can she put the icing on the cake?

    Mid jump: No!

Landing: And it's a new World Record!

She was so relaxed, I thought she wasn't going to complete the jump - then she got the WR!

I've just measured my floor to ceiling and it's 2m34, mental to think the high jumpers just jumped higher with only a run up!!!!

If there was a medal for false starting - we’d piss it.

  • Don't like the high jump thing. Mutually deciding to share a gold? Not on.

If the great Michael Johnson said there's no excuse for a false start.

There is no excuse for a false start.

All the heights, speeds and distances are normalised a bit by them all completing, whereas when you really think about it they are crazy.

Ilfracombe in Devon has a mosaic measured out to Jonathan Edwards's triple jump world record and you stand by it and think "This, in 3 jumps?  That's impossible, surely?"

I'm not sure the photo does it justice compared to standing there but:

Then have a 7 person play off for the bronze in the golf.

    Breaking news.....
Gareth Southgate was offered the opportunity to share the Euro's trophy  before the penalties but declined.
