The new stand being built behind the old stand (the multi span stand visible at the bottom of the picture)

Last picture (promise..)
The very one sided ground after the new stand was built. It remained like this for many years, with the pitch a long distance from many of the stands. After The Valley, the most interesting ground in England in my opinion.

I don't really understand why they didn't build that stand straight when they rebuilt it. I thought it was a bizarre ground when I went.
Was the space in-between the pitch and the stand dark during night games? Looks like it would be from the floodlight positioning.1 -
The multi gabled stand was an Archibald Leitch design if I remember. It was strange as each gable increased in size as it ran down the length of the pitch.0

Correct - designed by Leitch, the line of the stand dictated by the angle and rise of the road behind it. For any ground nerds, the book below is fantastic - unfortunately its difficult to get hold off (as demonstrated by the price of Amazon's only copy... - luckily I bought mine a while back).Addickted said:The multi gabled stand was an Archibald Leitch design if I remember. Not sure if someone knows at the Museum but Graham Budd Auctions have a auction going on at the moment. The item of interest is a scratch built model of the Valley in the 80s0
