At my firm you're either an associate or a partner - or counsel if you don't make partner. It is a US firm though so perhaps different.

I don’t think there is any chance that Thomas will buy the ground. He is not that wealthy. It would be a pointless transaction - only dead money, unless Roland in his dotage or his family decide to sell at a big discount0
