New Charlton Director - Leo Rifkind
Vfrf
Posts: 797
I noticed we've placed Leo on the Charlton Board. Leo was one of the Freshfields partners that advised Thomas on his CAFC and CAFC Women takeovers, also specialises in co-investors.
I'd be interested to know the purpose as the two transfers of ownership have already been completed, with a wage-cap-less(?) transfer window ahead, is Thomas already moving to one side to allow a second investor to the table?
*apologies if a thread exists, I couldn't find one*

Glad someone started a thread, shouldn’t really be swallowed up on the legacy shenanigans thread14

You should have added that you can only read about it after all 1564 pages have been read and every single post is liked.bobmunro said:4 -
Any relation to Malcolm? Unusual surname0

Leo the Lad is 29.
He must be a pretty clever chap to not only be a Director of the best club that wears red and white in south east london, but he is also a freshfields solicitor and has studied at some of the best universities in the world.
Seems like an interesting (in a good way) appointment.3 -
As was pointed out to me he's not from the sports side of Freshfields but is a good lawyer. So maybe he won't be involved in the football side of the club.
He has, I'm told by someone who's worked with him a "strong personality" and he was "Thomas' proxy in the whole takeover negotiation including the Southall side."
So maybe a proxy for TS while he's in the states but as one source said "if I were Thomas I'd confide in Leo as well"12 -
Let’s hope Leo isn’t Malcolm’s Dad - it would make him well in to his 90’s. Wouldn’t fancy his chances of seeing us in the Europa League.AFKABartram said:Any relation to Malcolm? Unusual surname3 -

And he's the same age as Katrien Miere when appointed as CEO/director..Dazzler21 said:Leo the Lad is 29.

Actually, if I remember, Michael Gliksten was only 23 when he became Chairman at Charlton.

If it's okay with Admins I'll probably stay on seperate thread because that 1500+ pager gives me a headache!
I do find the timing interesting however, as he can't be part of any takeover at this point...4 -
Could be on the acquisition case in terms of south London real estate.Vfrf said:

Both options are exciting. Thomas has sunk plenty of money into us already and that's just to have a survival/rebuild year. I'd be interested to know what our budget is and that budget compared with the rest of the league.bobmunro said:

Owning our assets is also a real show of long-term vision but one that isn't so pressing given the 15 year lease in place.2 -
I was thinking of land on the Peninsula.Vfrf said:

Last spare patch of land on the peninsula. Surveyors were in today. Ground works start next week. Gonna have an excellent view of the pitch from my balcony!bobmunro said:

Also every time I see his name I think @rikofold has been appointed director.
Probably dyslexia but yeah.3 -
Malcolm's son is called Hugo and is a Times journalist.1

He's an associate not a partner. Associate is the lowest rung on the career ladder for a solicitor post-qualification. I don't know about Freshfield but usually 2 or 3 steps between that and partner.Vfrf said:I noticed we've placed Leo on the Charlton Board. Very unlikely. He's in the Freshfields Global Transactions team - i.e. mergers and acqusitions. He won't have any particualar knowledge of real estate law or transactions work. IN any takeover of a company, the M&A team will lead but there will be real estate specialists dealing undertaking due diligence on property assets and liabilities so he won't have done more than have read reports by them.bobmunro said:

I suspect he has just been brought in because Thomas regards him as a trusted advisor. Must have done a good job on the takeover and Thomas must be a valued client of Freshfields to persuade them to let him moonlight. Freshfields have a pretty terrible reputation for working its (very well paid) junior associates to the bone.5 -
What comes between associate and partner then?Jints said:

At my firm you're either an associate or a partner - or counsel if you don't make partner. It is a US firm though so perhaps different.
