I can't believe I'm so happy we've beaten Wigan. Love Charlton always will.

It's like I tell my kids when they've been naughty and I've had to tell them off - I might not like you right now, but I'll always love you.

Blimey, 16 months ago Wigan were mid table in the championship on impressive form.

Now they're 23rd in league one and just lost at home to Charlton!

A win is a win. Need to build on it against Oxford which will be a tough game.

Pretty amazing we're 5 points off the play offs considering our form the past 3 months.

A much better performance than of late. Watson, Pearce and JFC were excellent. We should have had a penalty, Millar had a shot cleared off the line, and there were a few other outside opportunities. Cant remember a crucial save that Amos had to make to be honest. Its 3 points, it could kick start our season, again, but we need to build on this on Saturday. Would be extra special to beat Oxford on Saturday, but its the hardest of the next 5 games by far. For tonight though its a much 'nicer' evening.

Sounds like Schwartz is going to have to step up to the plate of chucks is going to be out.

Thought Smith and JFC in midfield made a big difference tonight - especially in first half - far more mobile than Shinnie and Pratley
And it made Watson look so much better as well.  Allowed him to do what he is a good at with more mobility around him.

Nah reckon Stockley will come in on Saturday

Wont be surprised if Schwartz got preferred as quite simply there was no point risking him

A win is a win. Now please can we have the nucleus of that side starting on Saturday because that's the only way we are going to get any continuity.
I agree, but I expect Chuks & Stockley to swap & I doubt JFC will start either.

Not enforced as such but players being "managed" doesn't help.

Did Chuks say how bad his injury is?

For those know nothing know all’s who say Bow has lost the dressing room, I defy anyone to say they saw evidence of that this evening.
I would also like to add that Pearce was immense.👏👏👏

Not pretty and things to work on but it’s exactly what is needed to stop the rot and something to build on.

Think the midfield looked better and more balanced with my MOM Jfc  back and no pratley.

Watson looked in control, Washington worked hard, Pearce put everything on the line to battle as he always does.

After Saturday credit to the players who put a shift in and battled for the shirt.

We are staying up say we are staying up

We did battle so much more than we have done in recent games, some very good performances, still worry about our left back from a defensive stand point.

JFK, Pearce and Watson stand out players for me tonight.

Yep stopped the rot. Onto Oxford now and another 3 points will do nicely.

Washington getting comments such as "not sure what he is good at" on the player marks.

How about constant grafting and getting the assist tonight?

10 goal interactions this season, 3 fewer than Chuks.
Is that a modern word for assist? If so....

Washington 10 assists and 7 goals = 17 combined. Pretty good.

Aneke 7 assists and 13 goals = 20 combined. Also pretty good.

I would like bowyer to come up with a formation where Aneke, stockley and Washington could all start.

    Cor we needed that

The bad first, Maatsen is a shadow of the player who came on and mesmerised me at Blackpool away and got away with a lot tonight. He is great when he doesn't have time to think, if he thinks he will make the wrong decision. Ref and officials were again the usual standard of piss poor for this level.

Second half we were lucky it was Wigan we were playing and not anyone decent like Burton Albion or Gillingham, sat too deep, isolated Chuks and used the ball terribly

The good, Famewo, what a defender this guy is. Having Forster Casky play was nice, Jason Pearce had a good game

I'm happy, its 3 points and a clean sheet

Maybe there's a split in the camp maybe there isn't, but was interesting that players who you would expect would be on Bowyer's side if there is a split had the stand out performances - Pearce, Watson, JFC. Honourable mentions for Matthewswho got up and down the line well and didn't do anything daft, and Washington who worked exceptionally hard getting up and own the line to support Maatsen in defence.

Whatever the cause, I think there is some vindication for Bowyer there tonight - they worked hard, did the basics, made no silly mistakes and we won. Yes Wigan are poor, yes there will be tougher tests to come, no it wasn't a perfect performance, but it showed, just like at MK Dons a few matches back, that the foundation for winning games at this level is just that - work hard and do the basics.

This side is so up and down, we could just as easily lose 6-0 on Saturday as go on a run of 6 straight wins, but tonight must surely lift the mood for everyone. If feels like a big win. Sadly, I suspect at least Chuks and Maatsen may be out on Saturday with tight hamstrings and can JFC go again so soon after injury? Otherwise I would implore Bowyer to go with the same starting 11.

Sounds sort of ok, mind you he ain't got a good stat so far, last visit was Home to Gillingham and we all remember what happened then,... he ain't got another offspring playing for Oxford has he?
  • Curb esq rots topper, Credit where its due and a few players who have had critiscm, especially me.

Pearce, Watson, Washington all put in a shift, no stupid pushes or free kicks.

I don't expect Barcelona watching Charlton but effort is foremost and not hiding, the 11 on the pitch to start certainly put the effort in.

Glad I wasn't a neutral watching it though

Big test Saturday again the mighty Oxford. Looking forward to it.
