Prepare to underwhelmed it won't be Randall or Baah.
No need for some on here to prepare to be underwhelmed, it’s ingrained in their personas for every transfer window, no names no pack drill 😏.

Why do people say want to make Shinnie permanent? His salary would be too much and guess what, we have him until the end of the season already
He's also out of contract in the summer so we'll have to worry about more clubs being potentially interested and will be able to make potentially more lucrative offers at that stage.

Of course he could already be in discussion with Scottish clubs if he felt that offers North of the border are more interesting than what League One clubs can offer due to the Salary Cap

Would Williams leaving allow us to sign Shinnie to facilitate another loan place?

Jonny is much better in the Championship than L1. Would be sad to see him go but if it helps Bow freshen things up it could be worth it.
That’s a lot to sort out in 24 hours though.

He played brilliantly at the beginning of last season but I’d probably cash in now - I suspect he’s on good money - way above the wage cap .

With us likely going for play offs at best this season, I also can’t help but think of Williams at Wembley 2 years ago, and how having a player like that even on the bench during a big game is massively helpful.

If Luton agreed to pay up what they are paying anyway, shinnie signing permanently would free up a spot for another loan

Jonny WIlliams is better playing forward, either on as a super sub for Wales or for Charlton. Jonny helped turn the game for Charlton at Wembley and I have seen him do it for Wales on a number of occassions. He is one of those players that needs to play in the right position. Not sure if Lee Bowyer wants to play him in his strongest position, or wants a player that has more gritty defensive qualities and maybe a bit more robust. JW does defensive stuff but that's not his forte. IMO, he is Championship level and benefits from being in a stronger squad, so he can played optimally.  At Cardiff, it may suit him well there. I would be sorry to see JW go but with the League One squad limitiations, I am not sure Charlton in League One is the right place for him or best for Charlton.

Whatever happens, Jonny Williams is a great character and due to his vital role in the promotion season, will always have a special place in Charlon's supporters hearts.

If Williams is that good tell me where plays best

NO.10 Off the striker is a no from me not enough goals
    Out wide certainly no winger
Midfield pairing no I think missing out on the tackle tells you that

No point in selling Jonny if there's no replacement. Having said that, I would keep him anyway. OK, he might not score and does not have a lot of assists to his name but he scares the hell out of opposing defenders, opening up space for others when he is on ball and winning us a lot of free-kicks. Not his fault a lot of those free-kicks are wasted.

Our standards have slipped so much that we think it is normal and acceptable to have key players who cannot last 90m, like Aneke, Maddison  and Williams. It is not normal and you can't expect promotion with half fit players. We have got used to it because of the crap owners, time to move on.
Yep, and very average players are called things like ‘wizard’ because we have been so bereft of quality players when one comes along who can kick a ball to a team mate we get all excited.

Just watching Leicester v Leeds build up and they mentioned James Justin has played every min in the league this season. Yes it’s Premier League but puts the inability to play 90 mins into context.

    Williams is either

A   A wizard who scares the hell out of opposing defenders, is a Championship standard player who is rarely injured.

B   A lightweight, diving wee man, who the opposition swat aside with ease when he is not writhing around in fake agony, is made of glass and blowing out his arse before 60 mins are up and his Charlton stats make Ben Reeves look world class by comparison.

Williams does not count towards the cap under his current contract so doesn't make sense to let him go. Might be an idea for Bowyer to figure out why a club at a higher level is interested.
  • Williams leaving weakens the squad. He offers something that’s hard to find. Genuine impact from the bench. He frustrates too often though when starting. I’m 55/45 hoping he stays but if he does leave then a very good replacement needs to come in.

Williams counts as far as I’m aware but only the part up to what the cap average is for the squad. The rest is over looked by the EFL as he was already under contract.
they don’t just ignore his whole salary.

So you are saying that his salary counts approx £2,500 a week (the average if you divide the cap total with the number of players allowed) to us but anything over that isn’t included as his salary was sorted before the cap came in?

Genuinely asking as I still don’t think I have this fully worked out what does and doesn’t count in my head.

Let’s not forget if Cardiff want him, they’ll probably get him. They’re an established Championship club who can afford to have a bit part player sit on the bench and he’ll have a better chance of securing his place in the Wales Euros squad playing Championship football. Plus you have to think about the fact he’s out of contract this summer with us whereas Cardiff are likely to offer an 18 month deal as a minimum.

  • We should only let him go if we've got a replacement lined-up and it's a good deal for the club.

Or you could ask why weren’t clubs at a higher level fighting to sign him when he would have been free in the summer. Unlike us they’re not limited by a salary cap so they can afford to have players in their squad who can’t regularly play 90 minutes.

He does count under the cap, his wage counts as the average.
  • With Williams contract up at the end of the season I expect their to be little to no fee for him going their.

I’ve seen 200k mentioned. Potentially even less

But if they really want him and we don't want to lose him then they have to sweeten the deal. Whilst they are bang mid table if they want to go on a run to get to the play offs or not get sucked into relegation, then £500k* is a small amount for your top target.

*I suspect it will be less than this though, if he goes.

No one's mentioned that this move might help Johnnie go to the Euros. I think we should only let him go if a replacement comes in.

Bow wants a winger shame Jordan Jones went to Sunderland.
  • Having a feeling of déjà vu from last January's window. Matt Smith, but this one's from Arsenal.

Oh thats going to be hilarious watching the meltdown on twitter before people realise its not the same bloke

Although reading Sheridan's comments it sounds like this Matt Smith isnt getting game time because even they want another Midfielder in

John Sheridan revealed Town have been considering sending Smith back to North London early, many fans have been wondering why the Swindon boss would get rid of one of the club’s standout players.

He picked up a cup winners medal without making a first team appearance apparently, loan recall from Swindon scored 2 in 24 so he's match fit 😲.
