I listened to an interview with Lincoln boss. Their club was at a crossroads last season. Average age in the squad was 31. They've cut out all the dead wood and now have an average of '22'. Despite this youthfull team they have gone with hungry youngsters on loan from the Prem clubs to give them the quality, pace and fitness, that sits them top of the league. This wasn't an accident, it was the strategy. Maybe Bowyer, Gallen and Thomas, should take note.Oggy Red said:
He's 31. His club now has a policy of rebuilding with younger players.Starinnaddick said:Shouldn't we be asking why his club continue to refuse to play Ronnie. What has he done?
It's all about balance though. Lincoln might well have a team of hungry young guns " average of 22". But you can bet your life they've got a couple of older heads, experienced players, to give leadership and hold it all together.
There's an old adage ...... "you don't win anything with a team full of kids", that's been more or less proven in all my more than 50 years of following football. That's not to say it could never happen, but the chances are quite small ..... trouble is, for all their talent, inexperienced players are just that until they get a few seasons worth of games under their belt. Teams full of youngsters can show a lot of promise, but they have a tendency to fall away just when it matters.
I'm not really disagreeing with you though. While we've got a few over 30s including a couple of 35 year olds, there's also a nucleus of players who should be in their prime right now, aged 25 to 30 - and they should have enough legs and pace to play at their best. Remember players don't suddenly become 'past it' the day they hit their 30th birthday - that all depends on how well they've looked after themselves, luck with injuries, etc.
Some players don't naturally have pace, some do .... and I'll agree with you, right now we're crying out for more pace on the counter.
But then Bowyer himself has already said that recently.

It won't happen as Championship clubs seem to be interested, but Max Watters is the hot property striker in L2. 13 league goals already1

Doncaster must be kicking themselves. Released him in the summer and he's even been linked with 1/2 Prem clubs.killerandflash said:It won't happen as Championship clubs seem to be interested, but Max Watters is the hot property striker in L2. 13 league goals already1 -
Ronnie Schartze to sign next week ? After 1st Jan there's a whole lot of new regulations which I don't believe he will pass ? Can anyone more knowledgeable on the subject confirm this ?chev said:
You have to assume TS & his lawyers have already looked into this but still a bit worrying.0 -
All about money, I suppose.king addick said:
Funny place to go and play football in Turkey it seems. You either are massive success and stay for a few years or you dont hit the ground running and your contract is cancelled.addick1956 said:
Except with the wages cap you can't legally do that without movement in first and then guaranteed movement out. Anyway why is Gnanduillet being heaved out ? Footballers seeking work all over the place at present so I can't see it as a voluntary move.golfaddick said:
I would have him AND Schwartz. Ditch Bogle & then you have 4 strikers to rotate.king addick said:https://the72.co.uk/211454/ex-cardiff-city-and-charlton-athletic-target-becomes-available/
Armand Gnanduillet has become available on a free? I know it seems pretty much stamped that we are getting Ronnie but if it fell through, would anyone fancy him coming in?
His record in a bang average Blackpool team is decent.
No doubt offered a better contract in Turkey than he was offered in the UK.
Plus, if you make a success of it, the Turks will give you cult status.
But if it all goes flat, you're a long way from home.
Mentally tough, especially with all the Covid restrictions.

No chance that TS and his lawyers haven’t already sorted it. We have probably already signed him and got his work permit sorted and then waiting until the window opens to register him.charltonbob said:

So ...... I googled Joe Garner and found this, for what it's worth:DeflectedWide said:I may be putting two and two together and getting five but joe garner coming in? Been playing regularly at the level as bows suggested and has just been released on a free.
"Wigan striker Joe Garner agrees Indian Super League transfer to join Robbie Fowler at East Bengal."
No link because it's from the Super Throwaway Scum.

But that's not the club's fault the transfer window doesn't open until January 4th.golfaddick said:
So, we wont be seeing Schwartz at Hull & probably just a cameo against Accrington. Nothing changes.chev said:
Even you can't blame Bowyer for that!

If he was at the Wimbledon game, I reckon he has signed already but can’t be registered until next week. I think it’s as simple as bowyer having a limited vocabulary and not explaining it properly.charltonbob said:

Schwarz just needs to sign his contract with the club and be 'resident' here before midnight tonight, 31st December.
That's his job offer.
That's not the same as being registered to play, which can't be done before January 4th.

People may be wondering how much Paul Smyth is costing us, under the wage cap, etc.
Stumbled on this from the SLP, and Steve Gallen is reported saying:
"I knew that Paul Smyth was a good player. I knew getting him was really going to benefit us. QPR have done us a huge favour on that – they deserve unbelievable credit from Charlton. They’ve practically given us Paul for nothing.”
https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-dof-steve-gallen-on-failed-move-for-ronnie-schwartz-attempts-to-land-clarke-harris-and-arsenal-youngster/
Helps us understand the conditions and restrictions we are under with player recruitment. The interview is well worth reading again.

Stop worrying about Schwartz. He’s definitely coming.1

Levitt seems so far down the pecking order, is it right to keep him?0
-
Even Bowyer has raised that question.MuttleyCAFC said:Levitt seems so far down the pecking order, is it right to keep him?
I would guess a decision has already been made.
To my mind, it's particularly about a young player's welfare, as well as his contribution to the team.
1 -
Fully expect Levitt to be recalled by United as soon as the window opens . Then this mystery second signing that's ready to go with Schwartz will be announced0
-
We're probably being diplomatic with them
"Do you really want us to keep him, he's not getting game time as he's behind Ben Watson so are you sure he's not better off elsewhere?"
Man Utd can then be the ones that call him back... Rather than us going
"You know what, he's shit, we dont want him"
Especially if we want to stay on their good side if they ever have any other players we potentially want on loan
2 -
I just hope that the other player coming in is a CB, or we're in the doo-doo.0
-
And he isn't shit. He is a good prospect that is a bit short of certain aspects needed to play regularly for us. That could indeed and probably will change in future and I would wish him the very best.ForeverAddickted said:We're probably being diplomatic with them

We could do a lot worse than bring in another BFG, though not as big as Bauer .. Max Ehmer, ex Gills, now Bristol Roversbigstemarra said:I just hope that the other player coming in is a CB, or we're in the doo-doo.

I would love to see us have a punt at MK Dons' Scott Fraser, hands down the best player we've come up against so far this season. I suspect out of budget though.

Was available on a free in the summer too , probably one that without the ESI shenanigans we could have signed.charlton_hero said:I would love to see us have a punt at MK Dons' Scott Fraser, hands down the best player we've come up against so far this season.
